Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Risk of Rain 2 is so goooooood I wanted to like the original Risk of Rain more than I ended up liking it. Risk of Rain 2 takes everything I liked about the original - the weird relics and , the aesthetic, the soundtrack - and makes it smooth as butter to play. The base game is a very competent chara...

Re: Books completed

I'm really struggling with Stranger In A Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. I don't know whether it's the 60s anachronisms, the casual sexism or the fact that none of the ideas discussed are especially thought-provoking or controversial in 2020, but I'm having to make myself sit down and read it. I'm ...

Fell in love with R.A.P. Ferreira's Purple Moonlight Pages recently! Very Talib Kweli.

Re: Let's have a thread about the virus, then. We might as well.

So my husband has been sent home from his job because one of the ladies with whom he shares an office has contracted COVID-19. He's working on the frontlines of COVID prevention here, so we're not surprised, but this is probably the closest to home it's been for us so far. He's had a test, we're jus...

Does anyone have any opinions on the Steam/Android/iOS version? I'm also keen to play this, but the screenshots of those look... rough.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Think I'm going to stop playing Stellaris. Every time I've loaded it up I've had a great early game, Star Trekking about the galaxy, claiming territory, engaging in diplomacy etc etc and it's all tight and entertaining and evocative. And then you hit the midgame and things just... stop, for hours . ...

Re: Games Completed 2020

18/04/20 - Bioshock 1 I forgot how deeply silly the end sequence of this game is. Otherwise this experience totally holds up. I've also recently replayed Infinite, and this game makes Infinite look like the unauthorised fan fiction sequel that knew it loved the original but didn't understand why . R...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

My husband and I live in an economy where all our electronics are imported and our exchange rate is pretty terrible, which puts all Nintendo hardware and games squarely out of our price range. We did consider getting a Switch at one point (for the exclusive Nintendo games), but since hardware is rou...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I have Temtem, Outward and Outer Wilds, all new, all fresh, all waiting to be enjoyed. So of course I'm replaying Bioshock 1 . That's still a very good game! Now that my weekends are basically entirely homebound with very little interruption, I have also been playing a frankly unhealthy amount of St...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

OH in a similar fashion to Outward, I bought Control and Outer Wilds at about the same time. Toreeee through Control, had a really good time, but bounced off Outer Wilds hard. I realise this is probably my fault, but can anyone who loves it give me a way in?

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Attempted to engage with FFX 's endgame and noped out of it pretty quickly. Turns out that, even during lockdown quarantine, I have better things to do than trying to win a bullshit chocobo race or to dodge 200 lightning bolts on the Thunder Plains. Spent some time agonising about whether or not tha...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Working my way through Final Fantasy X HD at the moment. Had no intention of doing any of the endgame content, which tbh seemed like a collection of pointless busywork, but... then the lockdown hit and we can't leave the house 😅 So guess who's gonna shoot for defeating the Dark Aeons and Penance!

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Watched Uncut Gems last night. Can't tell if I hated it because it's bad or because I'm just sick of films about charismatic arseholes having gritty misadventures with at least 3 people shouting at one another at all times.

Re: Books completed

This year so far I've finished: A Memory Called Empire , by Arkady Martine. Really loved it, as a foreigner living in a strange culture the novel's exploration of culture shock (as well as the dynamics of weaker cultures being absorbed into and around larger more dominant cultures) was super interes...

Mildly panicking here in South Africa as we already have chronic drought, rolling blackouts and an HIV epidemic on our plates down here. Wondering how many more straws this camel can take.

Hi folks! Used to be a big fan aaaaaages ago (think around 2013-2014) but fell off the podcast for whatever reason. Couldn't tell you what got me back into it, but I've been on a massive tear through the stuff you've been working on for the past seven years and was reminded of the forums when you qu...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

Have you thought about covering Bravely Default? I've just finished your Final Fantasy series, so I'm sure you're heartily sick of JRPGs, but I think it'd be a really nice counterpoint to your FFIII episode.
