Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

@Scrustle Just in case you're interested in more about Game of the Year contender, Vampyr :D , gamecritics have done a podcast devoted to it . The podcast is a bit odd and probably not everyone's cup of tea, but if you were stuck for something to listen to on your commute etc. @me I am still playing...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I know, when that conversation was ongoing yesterday I was thinking, what about the retro guys, they play the same shit over and over again anyway. :D I am joking, retro guys, don't @ me. :) Yes, we all play games which appeal to us and which may not change much from iteration to iteration. I spend ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I haven't played any Ubi games for a while, but for me the issue with their games became that they were making games to a template, rather than by committee. And in that case, I wonder whether the challenge (outside of the challenge of making games itself) becomes, how to remain creative within the ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Prey Mooncrash is pretty great so far, but a couple of things might hold it back. The setup is something about a training simulation, but in effect you have to get 5 different characters with different traits, to escape from a moon base overrun with Prey’s Typhon enemies. So you have to get the firs...

Life is Strange: Before the Storm

I think this received some praise on here but it didn't work for me on any level, really. Was happy to get it finished.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Couple of updates: Metal Gear Survive was reluctantly abandoned and deleted. Some of it was ok, but the base defence sections were unbearable to me: you'd have a line of zombies approaching from multiple points, and you had to run around selecting fences and barriers from a finicky inventory menu an...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I have abandoned Call of Cthulhu on PC due to the necessity of technical- and guide-based interventions weighing down the scale a bit too much on one side. It was good while it lasted. Worth checking out on Xbox for sure, if that is convenient. I started Star Traders: Frontiers (PC) last night; it's...

Re: Games Completed 2018

That was mostly a throwaway comment on my part, I didn't actually expect you to run out and buy it first thing in the morning! I have visitors this week so I can't get near the console (surreptitiously playing bits and pieces on PC when I can) but I will have a look on the store next week and consi...

Re: 340: Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Thanks Simon. I've reluctantly abandoned it. I had a lot of trouble with the Escape from Innsmouth section and just when I looked like I'd make it I got a complete system freeze that required a hard reset. I will read the script or watch the cutscenes.

Re: Games Completed 2018

@Ksubzero1000 To your point about characterisation, I see where you are coming from in regard to choices defining the character, but I still hold out hope that a game that is smaller in scope and with fewer actual interactions between characters (like Dr Dekker) can pull off the feat of writing mean...

Re: 340: Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Absolutely loving the dialogue! Man: You're not getting my meaning, stranger. There is rumouring of real horrors in the black dankness 'neath these streets. Maybe them folk with the taint are devils, but at least they're devils of this Earth. You ever hear tell of a shaggoth, stranger? Jack: Just te...

Re: 340: Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

Yeah, it's a bit rough on Windows 10. The game takes about 5 minutes to start up, so every crash adds up. My favourite bugs so far were the game playing the Windows 'BONGGGG' sound with every action (I had to turn off PC sound, game music and dialogue was fine), and where you needed to push a crate ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

It's one of those mellow games where you kind of have to go with the flow. For me it clicked with the religious girl's crisis in chapter 2 (I think?). If it hasn't clicked by the third episode, I doubt it will.

Re: Games Completed 2018

Thanks for answering the call and playing it! I suppose I was being a bit selfish by asking people to play it because I thought that the second half/final act of the game wasn't great, but thought that might be a failing on my part rather than the game's. I think we're mostly in agreement that it is...

Re: What's Out This Week?

Or a thrice-in-a-lifetime experience where you fail repeatedly to get past the moribund first 6 hours :D Minit is excellent, if it is any way reasonably priced on NS. It took me 104 minits to finish but was very enjoyable. August (Madden, rather) signals the start of the silly season. A dagger to th...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Yeah, I figured that asking my own questions would ruin the flow of the game so I didn’t engage with that at all.

Re: No Man's Sky

Pro tip: if you’re building a buggy, make sure you first find a planet you can drive around on with careless abandon, and not, I repeat not, one that is absolutely chock-full of big crevasses that you can’t drive for more than seven seconds without plunging into one :x
