Re: E3 2018 - Conference times and general chat

It doesn't seem to have been a massive year for surprises, which seems a shame given the point at which this console generation is at. Still, even if the next year is going to bring a lot of iterative sequels they at least look to be highly accomplished ones. And if they can nail the tone of the Las...

Re: Community Gamertags and other online ids

Hey CnR! I've had a bit of a video game sabbatical, but I'm learning to love them again with the help of my new Nintendo Switch. Here's my friend code if anyone is up for some Mario Kart sessions:

Re: Star Wars

Ah, I was actually very pleased with Michael Giacchino's work. Perhaps it lacked new standout themes and melodies, but I thought he got the tone and mood spot-on. I'm really impressed with Giacchino's work on Rogue One. The one mis-step is the 'Jyn theme', which uses the opening motif of the Star W...

Re: All things DOOM

I know I'm preaching to the converted here, but Doom 2016 is really impressive. I don't think I've enjoyed the simple act of moving in a FPS so much since Unreal Tournament, and once the music is pumping, guns are firing and demons are falling it becomes a zen-like experience. Bravo id, bravo

Anyone who's playing on PS4 and wants to add me go ahead (PSN name laj105). Absolutely love Overwatch so I'm normally on at least once a week.

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Just catching up the news of the PS4Pro and I'm amazed that they won't allow for Ultra 4K BluRay discs to be played. Seems like a key feature if you're interested in 4K and making a choice between the PS4Pro and the Xbox One S (or Scorpio). Free HDR upgrade for existing PS4 owners is nice, though. R...

Re: Overwatch

Yep, these hidden nuggets are what are going to keep me coming back to this one. Just learnt that Genji's deflect can counter Hanzo's ultimate dragon-Scott Pilgrim rip-off; that's going to be a game-changer next time I log on.

Re: Overwatch

Decided to pick this up on a whim as I've been home from work due to illness for a couple of days. It's a fun game, but as with so many team-based shooters the amount of fun depends on the other players that you're matched up with. I've had some brilliantly balanced games, with players changing thei...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

So PS4K or PS4 Neos is a thing, thats awesome. I'm happy as larry with it personally. I bought my PS4 at launch and with 3 years of gameplay and a reasonable trade in deal, I don't mind 200 euro or so for an upgrade. Not everyone seems to be as mellow with it though. As someone with less than a yea...

Re: SoP submissions *please read first post*

I see that someone else has raised Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, but I can't recall hearing it come up on the show so far. It's difficult to choose one track from what, in my opinion, is one of the finest musical scores of the past ten years (across all media) but I've gone for the closing track....

Re: Rock Band series

I've been a keyboard player for most of my life, and still help out friends when they need music lessons covered from time to time. Therefore, I've seen first hand the so-called ‘Rock Band effect’; kids who have taken up a proper instrument following their enjoyment of the plastic versions. For a me...

Remember how great demos used to be?

Deus Ex came along when I was too young to have disposable income with which to buy the full game. I did have access to the demo though, which came ‘free’ with a copy of PC Zone magazine back in the day. As such, Deus Ex is one of those games where my fondness comes from how much I rinsed their gen...

Splatoon, Smash Bros or Mario Kart over Christmas would be great. Buying a PS4 has pulled me away from my Wii U a bit, but it would we be great to dive back in over the holiday

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront

I've been loving it too, now that I've got through the usual online shooter teething pains of being bottom of the grid in my first few games. Walker Assault just brings out the 7-year old Star Wars fan in me; facing off against or running alongside those gigantic AT-AT elephants. The value question ...

If you choose to play as a lady, you're treated to a much better vocal performance. Yep, I went for a lady. In fact, I went for an hispanic lady in order to have a nice break from playing a white man in a game. The voice artist does a decent enough job, but to be honest I'm always taken out of the ...

Re: Our next podcast recording: The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda has a special place in my heart as it was my very first video game. My memories are, therefore, extremely hazy, but I can remember my Dad setting up the NES in the spare room at Christmas and booting the console up. I don't know why he bought a NES for me, as to my mind I'd never...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

I'm going to chip in with some non-spoilers thoughts on Spectre, which like Domsbeard I also didn't like. I disagree on Skyfall though, which I thought was a fantastic Bond film. The idea of a Bond film is incredibly broad anyway; Moonraker inarguably has all the cinematic Bond elements but is godaw...

Re: An interview with Paul Rose aka Mr Biffo

I have to say that this was a fantastic hour or so of entertainment. I was around 10 when much of the digitiser content was being published on teletext, so I'd forgotten an awful lot. This interview brought it all flooding back; Turner the Worm, the Man's Daddy, and the annual highlight that was the...

Re: Nintendo NX

The 3rd party situation is an interesting one, as I agree that logically being able to play Assassin's Creeds and Call of Duties of this world would be a plus. Yet with Nintendo releasing a console halfway through a generation (where a lot of people will already have jumped onto the PS4 or XBox One ...
