Re: 411: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
But the part I hit the wall with wasn’t the bosses or the difficulty- it was the padding. Each boss or mini boss had a whole bunch of goons to remove before the one on one battle could commence. That was my feeling as well, particularly with the general in the courtyard and then Juzou the drunkard....

Re: Our next podcast recording (14.7.18) - 328: Braid
I got Braid when it originally came out on XBox Live Arcade and played 2-3 hours before rage quitting it. I'd occasionally give it a go but never made any real progress. Fast forward several years and I'm looking through my Steam library to find a game for my 4 year old to play. He was still learnin...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)
Golden Axe is one of the first 'real' game I played on PC. Up until then a lot of it had been golf simulators, flight simulators, shareware. But Golden Axe had arcade quality graphics and playing the game and dying and not having to put money in to play again my mind was blown, it was in equal to fr...

Re: Grim Fandango
I missed this game back in the day, looking at the time period I was exclusively competitive FPS at the time so it's not surprising. I'm partial to the Double Fine games so I made point of playing this not long ago. I made my way to Rubacava on my own feeling pretty good with myself, picked up some ...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)
I usually listen to music from games I have played a lot, music that's permanently seared into my brain. I can't put my finger on why exactly I enjoy video game music so I've been making an effort of listening to game music from games, developers, platforms and generations I've never played or even ...

Great show, lots of heavy hitters there. Anyone else having to adjust the volume between the dialog and music? I'm on my mobile crappy earbuds so that may be it?

Story and presentation was great, saw some of it coming and some of it straight up kicked me in the nuts. Loved all the story elements. But that game was about twice as long as it should have been, the monsters did not work at all and really did not like them. They just served as wall between you an...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)
I discovered Jake 'virt' Kaufman through an online video game music radio station. I've only played one game he's created music for (Shovel Knight) but I've gone and bought most of his releases on Bandcamp. The man is a genious. It's hard to pick one tune but for now I'll submit this one from a game...

Re: INSIDE (includes spoiler-filled narrative discussion)
I didn't play a lot of 2016 games in 2016 but this is probably my GOTY. The visual and especially the sound design, good lord. Controls, puzzles and length were perfect. I'll qualify this by being a busy family man, the simple controls and shorter playtime allowed me two consume it in two sittings, ...

What a lovely track that is from Westerado. Hearing the introduction from Ryan I was even about to skip it (cowboy music with twangy banjos and fiddles) but I must have listened to it ten times since listening to the show. Went and bought the soundtrack on bandcamp too. You should too: https://samva...

Good or bad, I always make a point of having the music turned up when playing a game, more often than not it will grow on me. Listening to the soundtrack on its own later will be more than just the music, it will bring back to your mind the experience of playing the game which is nice Trying to expa...

Just finished last night, damn how good does that game look. Loved it. Clever puzzles, good pacing, great minimalistic story. I get the feeling a regular studio might have crammed 10 hours of platforming in there to fill in for content but Starbreeze decided only to bring us the choice bits and they...

Finished XCOM: Enemy Unknown yesterday, great fun, constantly throwing new stuff at you, new tech and enemies, challenging gameplay. I did a save/reload playthrough, I was still learning all the systems up until the end, didn't feel like doing an Ironman not knowing what was going on. Awesome game.

As I understand it there is a hardware video encoder on the video card? Is that correct? Have any of you tried it with live streaming? Does it work with XSplit and OBS?

Re: This week's podcast: Super Meat Boy
SMB is one of my favorite games. I have only finished 'the campaign' once and am working my way through the dark worlds and bandages slowly now. What keeps me coming back is the control mechanics, they're perfect. The controls coupled with the instant retry make hours disappear. You always feel like...

I played through Another World, amazing game, every bit as amazing as when I first played it 20 years ago (fuuu). Controls (swipe) take some getting used to but when you get them down they are spot on, very responsive and become second nature. Am playing Eufloria now, also amazing. They are not lyin...

Re: Offensive games?
I'm often immature, juvenile and silly but Duke Nuke Forever was offensive in parts. Picking up poo and slapped boobs on a wall were not only vile but painfully unfunny at the same time. Duke Nukem Forever was the first and so far only title that came to mind, some sexist gags didn't go over too we...
