Re: The Sound of Play submission thread

The Nintendo gigaleak has allowed the fans to restore the original soundtrack by reverse engineering it. Koji Kondo's original vision on the soundtrack before all the compression and sound chips of the Super Nintendo were used to squeeze it into the cartridge. This is the Super Mario world Overworld...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

Recently heard this mickey mouse sound track again on a Top snes games list and was instantly taken back to a more simpler happier time before being a grown up and everything that has happened in 2020. Listening to this is like snuggling up in a nice warm blanket and playing this on a glowing CRT on...

Re: Sound of Play: 138

Great show Ryan, not being someone who is musically educated and having no idea what a triangle wave is, as its all a bit technobabble to me but I still felt I have learned something about the creative process of making a music track. Also great track to deconstruct, love the robocop theme. IMHO its...

Great show Leon and Ben, listening to the podcast whilst standing on a snow covered platform and seeing my train cancelled yet again. Feeling extremely cold but the awesome tunes kept my spirits up during the extreme weather.

You guys ROCK! 8-)

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

Being a fan of the SNES mini's menu theme music I was intrigued to find out what the NES mini menu theme music sounded like. Having never seen the machine in the wild due it being rarer than hens' teeth, I have no idea how well the games play on it but I did find the menu theme music on youtube and ...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

I always loved the Super Nintendo and was very excited when they announced the SNES mini. I didn't pre-order it and it seemed to be out of stock for ages but I managed to track one down recently by chance when browsing in a local Smyths. The machine itself is not perfect with short controller cables...

Re: Sound of Play: 98

Another great show Leon, firmly lodged in my phone and played on repeat. For the record I do like the Amiga very much and was so close to buying an Amiga 1200 recently. But the ST will always have a place in my heart as it was the one I grew up with. Keep up the good work.

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

Vroom on tbe Atari ST was an awesome F1 racing game the sense of speed was amazing. I remember the game to be very hard, not only because the sheer speed the game ran at. Pretty sure it ran at 60 fps and requiring you to have super quick reflexes but the AI was hard to beat too. But that really didn...

Great show guys, loved it keep up the good work. Almost forgot that PC speaker music was a thing back then. I remember playing monkey island 2 with pc speaker on the odd occasion when I could not get the sound blaster to work. I've noticed that the Atari ST has not had any love on the show, any chan...

Re: Sound of Play: 90

What an amazing eclectic mix of tracks from 1990. I was in bleepy bloopy heaven.
A highlight for me was rainbow islands. Oh the hours I wasted jumping on those fiendishly difficult to master rainbows.

Can't wait for the puzznic episode ;)

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

Super mario world is without doubt my favourite mario game of all time. I first played this game when I went to my cousins house in my early teens. I was blown away by the smooth controls great graphics and fantastic music and sound effects. It really had a sense of exploration going to the next sta...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

I first heard of Jonathan Coulton after his album was included in a humble bundle. I had no idea he had any involvement in portal until I completed portal 2 and Googled the artist. I then went back and played portal 1 from the orange box. I have chosen the original end credits song "Still Alive...

Re: Seconding the request for Loom theme!

I'd like to echo CODEMONKEY's request for the theme from the LucasArts adventure Loom. The soundtrack was essentially excerpts from the Tchaikovsky ballet "Swan Lake" (swans are an important motif and story element in the game), arranged in MIDI by The Fat Man, aka George Sanger, who I al...
