Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Scrustle, I know you said you're done with Dead Cells but can I recommend a Tactics based run, where you use as much purple gear as possible and even go for pure ranged weapons over melee. Once I started playing more patiently and stealthily, letting my traps and projectiles do the work, and thoroug...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

'Brainless' was a terrible choice of word, but I'm glad you understood what I was trying and failing to describe. It's exactly that 'authorial intent' which has kept me motivated as I've moved from one area to the next, and backtracked very happily with clear direction - but without the modern obses...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've just finished what I assume is the first act of Okami. The most I've enjoyed a single player game since...hmm...I can't remember putting fifteen hours into a purely single player adventure game for a long time. Probably Xenoblade Chronicles 2 but I struggled to build or maintain any momentum wi...

Haha, love it. The best bit was of course trying to jump about two octaves on the 'beeeeezzzz'!

Re: The World Cup 2018

As an Evertonian, I can confirm that it's a great choice. Get in now to experience the brief glimpses of hope, joy and optimism before it is counterbalanced by a progressive exploration of despair and despondency. Joking aside (and I'm not really joking), this is shaping up to be a really interestin...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Thanks for the advice. I'm quite good once I build some momentum, and I've heard that it's a three act thing, almost a trilogy-in-one. That forewarning of the structure will probably be good for me, especially if it doesn't signal your progress especially well. I have genuinely missed being absorbed...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've managed to get further with Okami today on Switch than I have on the previous four times I bought it. I feel like I appreciate every aspect of it so much more than I ever did before, too. I've put the paper filter effect on Heavy and I'm gawping at it. I sit about 150cm from a 55" telly and the...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Alex, a few recommendations: Excite Truck is a monster, maybe my favourite arcade racer ever. Amazing sense of speed and putting my own tunes on a regular SD card (I forgot they existed until just now) made it even better. Galaxy 2 is also amazing and well worth playing. All killer levels. Metroid P...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Dead Cells on Switch. It's essentially Wizard of Legend spells, buffs and damage modifiers crossed with Flinthook platforming feel and generous permanent upgrades with a side order of Castlevania combat, and the art style of Hyper Light Drifter. I haven't spotted a single original idea here but it's...

Re: Our next Resident Evil podcast recording (8.9.18) - 336: Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard 4)

Resident Evil 4 is the only game I've ever played three times in a row. I was living in China at the time and had picked up an imported Japanese Wii. Having exhausted almost everything released on the Wii at that point, I was flicking through the loose pile of GameCube discs at the 'computer city' m...

Re: The Street Fighter thread

On an awesome and related note, Singho posted about a fantastic Super Turbo competition at VS Fighting 2018. The quality is absolutely amazing and features former C&R interviewee Ryan Hart, as well as Justin Wong, and the absolute cream of the UK scene. A SSFIIX "Tournament of Legends 3" Qualifier...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

I also binned it this month for the first time since about 2011 or something. I hardly ever use the PS4 and I haven't downloaded one of the PS+ games in...I literally can't remember. The last one I played was The Binding of Isaac Rebirth. I just considered it online tax but I realised it's a waste o...

Re: 349: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (Biohazard 7: Resident Evil)

Haha. OK, I'm enjoying reading the discussion! I'll get to it and get my thoughts down, though. Just as soon as I've wrestled myself away from Paladins.

Re: 349: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (Biohazard 7: Resident Evil)

Great thread, really enjoying the discussion and gentle teasing, though I've still not played the game.

First, because I'm a coward these days and second, because everything I've seen and read looks and sounds a bit shite to me. I'll try to get through it in time for the show.

I picked up Raiden V and SotC, neither of which I've played before and both seem very well regarded for fifteen quid.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Out of curiosity, does it have simple and straightforward headset audio chat as per Fortnite? I'm not sure actually. I've not noticed any obvious chat function or icon at any point. I suspect not. I know from an AMA that they're working on community feedback at the moment and bringing in motion con...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I never found a 'main' in Overwatch, despite all the characters. I only put maybe ten hours into it across PS4 and XB1X and I had some great matches but I didn't feel I was ever more than a slightly confused passenger. In contrast, I picked up Cassie in Paladins straight away and started killing it....

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Paladins is out now on the eShop. It's a F2P Overwatch style 'hero shooter'. I actually prefer it to Overwatch and it runs like shit off a shovel on the Switch. Rapid, smooth, beautiful.

Re: No Man's Sky

^ I've got to tell you, that story exemplifies why I love the human race. Massive endeavour, blood, sweat and tears, the thrill of the process itself (I bet you were giddy on the possibilities while it was happening) and the inevitable glorious, glorious failure. Bravo.
