Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

...I feel like there's a singular appeal to these mini consoles that's hard to put my finger on, but I think its a combination of convenience, nostalgia and the aesthetics of the thing... That's kinda why I'm hanging onto my PS1 Classic too, as I totally get that "appeal" too. In context, it will g...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Yeah, I have a lot of love the emulation on my PS2/PS3/Vita when it comes to PlayStation 1 games, both disc-based and digital. Really love my Japanese PSOne with the 5" LCD screen attachment... run through a stepdown converter, of course!

And yeah, the SNES mini running PS1 emulation better... burn!

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

For the 2% of people of people who hung onto their PlayStation Classic pre-order, and are feeling adventurous, there's already a mod called BleemSync . I cannot vouch for how well it works, because I yet to even plug my PlayStation Classic for the first time (I mean, I got distracted by other games....

Re: Videogame News

Not to be overly hyperbolic, but the movie version of Sonic the Hedgehog looks like an absolute abomination. The proportions, the fur - it just looks horrible from a character design point of view imo. https://kotaku.com/the-internet-reacts-to-the-sonic-movie-poster-1830984050 I don't know... I jus...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm about 43 hours into Valkryia Chronicles 2 (October), and I've only just discovered how to get snipers! Indeed, I'm only just discovering that you can upgrade individual characters, not just the umbrella class. My assumption (emphasis on ASS) was that Change Class meant changing between classes, ...

Re: Retro gaming

I too wonder what the "secret" of the stolen drums are... and I agree: as someone who has been a drummer in a band, stealing a drum kit is not overly ambitious, though it would take time, and make an awful lot of noise.

Ooooo... maybe that's what the "secret" is!

I won't bang on about the quality of M2's work - truly the antithesis of Bethesda: no bugs, attention to detail, actually give a shit about what they do.
Oh snap, shots fired!
I thought you'd like that! ;) Couldn't resist the cheap shot!

Re: Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards

Award shows in general definitely fall under the category of " I'm not interested in watching it/it's purely a marketing thing, but sure, let's debate "! I'll look up results later... I don't care, yet, I'm curious about peoples opinions, and trying to understand their perspective when I inevitably ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Got my physical disc-based copy of Deathtiny (aka Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi) yesterday. The main advantage of the physical copy is that it comes with all the DLC already on the disc (no typing in codes), and also, if your not interested in creating a Japanese PSN account, you don't really need one...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

I picked up my PlayStation Classic yesterday, and I've yet had time to play it. However, I have unboxed it, and ooo'd and aaah'd as the beautiful little reproduction, with it's clicky, tangible buttons, revealed itself before me. The way it is packaged is fantastic... however... there was something ...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

I wanted more Timo Tjahanto on Netflix, and I got what I wanted! I recently watched Headshot (2016) and May the Devil Take You (2018). Headshot is easily the better of the two, and it felt like a bit of a warm up to 2018's The Night Comes for Us (similar to how Merantau felt like a warm up to The Ra...

Re: Psyvariar Delta (Grazing danmaku)

I think the important thing to remember is, when it comes to getting really good at any STG, the common thread among superplayers is dedicating a lot of time to playing! ;) Not great advice , I know, but it's good to place things in perspective, and be okay at not being super-human with the genre. T...

Just a quick, relevant link to the Phil LaMarr episode of I Was There Too, talking about his experiences as Marvin in Pulp Fiction.

Re: Videogame News

You guys are so lucky... I think the closet thing we have in Australia (or at least Sydney-ways) museum-wise is The Nostalgia Box in Perth, a good six-hour flight away. We don't really do culture down here... it's most Mad Max-styled dust storm car battles, and dead-end Wake in Fright-esque beer-soa...

By all accounts, the writing in RDRII is far more accomplished and mature than that of GTAV.
I do have fond memories of the first RDR, but I'll probably still wait it out. Never takes long for triple-A titles to come down in price, usually a few months.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Without giving Rockstar too much credit, they make incredible sandboxes. They make okay games, and the writing is... cinema-lite: the influences are obvious, but comes up very short. And the satire is the laziest form possible. GTA V is the last Rockstar game I've paid good money for, and I've learn...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

We just watched Hold The Dark , a new film on Netflix from the guy who directed Green Room. I didn't really like it. It has a lot of positives. Each scene taken out of context is actually really good, but together it just didn't form a coherent story. I like films open to interpretation, but this j...

Black Friday (and Cyber Monday) have made their way down under in recent years too, because, well, capitalism.

It's a great day to stay home and catch up with housework. 5 stars.

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

I've been in a mood lately, so I watched The Raid, Man of Tai Chi, Rumble in the Bronx and IP Man, all for the first time. I need more! Then I'd recommend watching 'The Night Comes for Us" on Netflix Ha! I just watched that this week, and would totally second that recommendation! Really wish more o...

Re: Videogame News

Yeah, there's definitely no substitute for the real thing: if it's possible to find the space for a CRT, and to use original hardware, then its definitely worth the effort. I make compromises too: I have a Retro Freak setup (which definitely isn't as nice as the Analogue machines), and I aim for rom...
