Re: Games Completed 2023

It was enough for me to know that I won't be carrying on with the Ichiban games going forward. I would even go so far to say it puts me off trying other JRPGs but I don't know if that would be fair if this game is just a poor example of a good JRPG battle system and that grinding isn't normally ...

#8 - Yakuza: Like A Dragon (2020, Series X) It's 2am, I sat through probably 4 hours of ending between the dungeon, boss fights and cutscenes, and I am not feeling well. But man, did I ever enjoy the ride this game took me on. It's a huge game, so I'll try to hit on a few key points without getting ...

#7 - Digimon Survive (2022), PS4 version via PS5 Never have I liked a game so much while also finding a game so difficult to recommend. This is probably the best Digimon game, full stop. If you're a fan of the series, even casually, this is basically a full series of the anime, with some excellent ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been playing Digimon Survive and uh... Man, I went from being cautiously interested in this one to diving in deep. This is an incredibly well-written (occasional typographical error aside) game, and one that uses the Digimon IP to tell a shockingly deep-cutting, poignant and psychological story ...

Re: Xbox Series S stick drift

All three console makers use the same supplier for thumbsticks, and this supplier has something of a monopoly on the market. If you're comfortable taking it apart, you should be able to get a stick replacement for like $10 on Amazon or whatever. Not expensive. Usually doesn't require any soldering ...

Re: Handheld emulation devices?

I have the Evercade and I think it's great... I just don't seem to play it much. I'd say the quality of their releases are steadily improving, but it often feels like a dumping ground for C-tier games for which the licenses are cheap. I'd actually prefer to see more releases like Xenocrisis, which ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Haven't had much time to game at all lately. My dad passed away unexpectedly and suddenly 3 weeks ago, and I hosted my brother - in from Japan - for a few weeks. On top of a very physical job and doing tenant organizing work here in Northeast London (not that one), I've just been gassed. Picross ...

Re: Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Yeah I really enjoyed this podcast too. While I will 100% never go back to this game due to how profoundly obnoxious it is in its own numetal stupidity, and because the gameplay just isn't my jam, I do respect their attempt at an ambitious storyline that attempts to link the Final Fantasy worlds ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Been working lots of OT this week, but I have put some time into Mega Man X Command Mission and Cruis'n Blast . Command Mission is a surprisingly well-designed JRPG, and while the story is not overly exceptional, the Mega Man setting does a lot of heavy lifting here, pulling weight an original IP ...

Oh, and according to Remedy's Twitter, Quantum Break is only being temporarily delisted as they work to renew licensing. Still - it will surely expire again in another few years.

Re: Videogame News

I've had that on my 'play some time' list for ages. Wonder if I can get through it before it leaves. I don't really understand why MS exclusives are being removed from Gamepass though. I get licenses expire for stuff like Forza (which I think is horseshit, given we now live in an age where games ...

Re: Videogame News

FYI guys, Quantum Break is being removed from Game Pass, and I've heard it's also being delisted from digital storefronts due to expiring licenses.

Game's very cheap physical, and was one of the best Microsoft exclusives of the previous gen. Might wanna pick up a copy before it goes up in price.

#6 - Live-A-Live (2022, Switch) Just when I think Square-Enix has given up on making good games, they always seem to come out with something out of left field that impresses my socks off. Trials of Mana (2020), Nier Automata, Final Fantasy XIII-2... Games I would have never expected to be fantastic ...

Re: Our next console special podcast recording (TBC.5.23) - PlayStation Vita

I hope that the next gangbusters-selling handheld console throws me a bone and puts the control sticks where my thumbs can reach them easiest. Get the Hori Split-Pad Pro for the Switch. Don't even need the Split Pad Pro honestly, I find this doo hickey here helps A LOT. Especially if you mod the ...

Re: Our next console special podcast recording (TBC.5.23) - PlayStation Vita

I have never owned a Vita, and I can't say I've ever even physically held one. So my commentary here will be that of a gaming enthusiast from the outside, looking in. I have a general rule when it comes to console purchases - if I can't find 5 games I want to own for a console, I skip it. And that ...

Re: Resident Evil 4 (2023)

The Wii controls do make it easier, but it made the game beatable for me. The reticule on the GC version (the only one I had played) always felt too slow, like I could not control the game fast enough to keep up with the threats on screen. I'm a big advocate for games having difficulty options, as I ...

Re: Resident Evil 4 (2023)

Is it petty to dislike this game on the principle they skipped out on a Code Veronica remake? :P I like RE4 well enough, but I have ZERO enthusiasm for this game. The original still exists, and still holds up pretty well... And this remake doesn't seem to really be changing things up at all. It's ...

I'm really concerned about the rate Supermassive is releasing their horror games. The Dark Pictures series was steadily improving in quality before it took a nosedive with the 4th one (The Devil In Me). The Quarry, released only a few months earlier, was a far more polished and better developed game ...

Started up Live-A-Live. Finished the Prehistory chapter and started the Distant Future chapter. Game's not really grabbing me so far, but I'll give it time to get to its point. Overall, it feels really well made, but also kinda slow.
