Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
I'm sure it's a good game and all, but man is it an ugly looking one.... That video seems to represent it in a very bad light; I watched it and went 'Whoa...'. Can't remember if that black fog was all over the place in the game but I think not. It's a super-excellent game. Bosses are imaginative, b...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Banner Saga 3 starts off slightly inauspiciously, with an endless battle you can't win  It doesn't communicate that, unless I picked it up wrong, but I've moved on a wee bit from that now and am liking it so far. The battle music has immediately departed from type, with what sounds like sitars ...

Alright, poster above, which should I spend my hard-earned cash on, Resident Evil 7 or Alien Isolation?

Re: Videogame Deals
As the Banner Saga 3 came out today, the entire Trilogy is on PSN for 39.99 Euros (if you have PS+, normal RRP 49.99)
Really good price for what's admittedly a marmite game (though a beautiful one).

Re: No Man's Sky
I had a great scheme for making money by salvaging ships. The way the ship salvage 'mechanic' worked is that any wreck you found would be roughly the same class of ship you were currently flying, plus a tiny upgrade (a 5% better engine or something). You had to collect a load of crap to repair it, a...

Re: No Man's Sky
Yes, Terraria is a good comp!
Funnily enough Elite eventually devolves into grind as well, but there is a lot to learning how to actually fly, that masks that for a good while.

Re: No Man's Sky
Just be aware that it's a 'grinding for loot' game, and there's not a lot more to it than that. I have no axe to grind, and I'm wondering whether I'm doing the game a disservice here, but I don't think I am. If sandbox crafting is your thing (think chopping trees in Minecraft) then go for it. It's g...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Finished the 2019 season as an expansion team (the Albuquerque Breaking Bads, groan) in OOTP19. Won my division, which included the Astros and a resurgent Angels under Ohtani - all three teams won >95 games - before being bounced out by the Yankees 0-4 in the ALCS. Just how impressive that achieveme...

Didn’t realise Banner Saga 3 was out so soon, and a concurrent release on console with the pc version, which is nice! Looking forward to the resolution of the plot, which has been pretty opaque all the way through.

Re: Games Completed 2018
Jul 11 - Risen (PC) This is the stinker of the bunch. I gotta stop playing open world RPGs. I think Witcher 3 is the only one I've liked. Either way, you are washed up on an island and need to side with one of the factions to survive. Do some quests to determine your fate and, just kidding, the sid...

Re: Octopath Traveler
There seems to be some discrepancy between what a portion of the readers want out of a review vs. what they really are, though. Well said! :P PS: It's especially egregious if the review itself doesn't disclose that the reviewer has only played up to a certain point. I think that would go a long way...

We're probably just all a bit wary of getting involved in a 'Ksubzero joint' after the 'Name that Game in 10' fiasco. Relentless.KSubzero1000 wrote: ↑July 14th, 2018, 9:45 am I'm a bit surprised more folks haven't joined our little competition, to be honest.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I've almost finished Dying Light , and I must say, I'm pleased it's coming to an end. It's not that it's overly long, but as you heard towards the final chapters it almost becomes a different game. The enemies become so strong and quick that it's barely worth stopping to fight them, and you're bett...

does it mean that VR zealots also happen to be climate change deniers ? Or 'Americans', as we call them now :) I tried Ocean Rift on the Gear VR yesterday and absolutely shat my pants at a sea turtle. I'm not getting involved with any damn sharks. I also have a tremendous fear of the sea - li...

Hahaha, that's great! I did the shark experience with my old man but he kind of missed the shark bit. He was too interested in prodding and poking at the bars of the cage (he's an ex-boatbuilder and a real hands on guy, if you take him to a gallery or museum he gets repeated warnings for touching th...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Metal Gear Survive is a strange beast, and is rather niche in its appeal. The scavenging and progression bits I like, but the 'defend the doodad' bits in between are rather annoying. They require you to defend multiple paths of incoming zombies, and therefore hit me right in the multitasking part of...

Yeah, I'd agree about Batman, it looks great. I'm just a bit sore about it not being much of a game.
Haven't fired up VR for a good while now; the hot weather isn't conducive to headset gaming. I have quite a backlog at this stage.
