Re: Comic Book Chatter

mqqft2x_Aa4 Disappointed isn't the right word. Underwhelmed might be it. I'm sure it will be good but the trailer has a lot of "been there, done that" moments. There's a scene where Batman is beating up mooks in a nightclub and I had to convince myself it's not just the same scene from Th...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I imagine it's going to also vary in importance from person to person. I had a 64, I played the 64 games I wanted to play. In a perfect world, I'd love to replay Ogre Battles 64 but it's not going to happen. And Sega games, well, I got those on Steam in that mega collection. But, for someone younger...

Re: Books completed (and general book talk)

Finished The Final Girls Support Group by Grady Hendrix. In Hendrix's world, all major slasher film series are based on actual crimes, with real life 'final girls' who survived the attacks. These women are now in their late thirties and forties and still gather together for group therapy sessions, ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm playing Resident Evil: Revelations right now. I'm using the Steam version but I have to say I'm pretty impressed at how good this 3DS game looks. Since I didn't have that system, I didn't realize how powerful that little device was.

Re: 497 - Death Stranding

I still need to put down my thoughts on Death Stranding. But if anyone else is interested, Kojima has a book out talking about his influences and his favorite pop media. I've got a copy on order at my library! https://blackwells.co.uk/jacket/l/9781974725915.jpg https://www.amazon.com/Creative-Gene-i...

Re: Comic Book Chatter

I don't have Twitter anymore, so I just see news announced and then move on with my day. This reaction is nothing new, be glad we didn't have internet in the 80s when Rhodey took over as Iron Man.

Re: Books completed (and general book talk)

Finished Bullet Train, a Japanese thriller by Kotako Isaka. It's probably my new favorite fiction book. It has a great pace to it and all the characters are really well written, with a villain who is perhaps my most hated villain ever. Here is the blurb I copied from amazon to give you a flavour of...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Been on a little 'silent movie season' at home recently, partly because my wife and I have had Covid and she's been feeling a bit wrecked. Either way, I've watched and really loved some of the classics, Vampyr and The Passion of the Joan of Arc by Carl Th. Dreyer, and Nosferatu and Faust by F.W. Mu...

Do they want the traditional gift of aluminum or would they prefer the modern gift of diamonds? Or are we not doing gifts this anniversary?

I've never played Journey to Silius (or heard of it), but I've been digging this remix. More knowledgeable people will have to tell me if it's a good reinterpretation or not.

Re: Let's rank our top three Bond films

Casino Royale I just rewatched it a few weeks ago. It's still such a great action movie, let alone a Bond film. There was so much energy in the room when I saw it in theaters, I'm glad it still has that 15 years on. Goldeneye I think this is still true. Sometimes, I'm a bit more partial to the more...

Re: Our next podcast recording (25.9.21): 488 - Castlevania (Akumajō Dracula)

I have such a vivid memory of my mom playing a rented copy of Castlevania for about an hour. I had no idea what the game was, but it looked spooky and colorful. It looked exciting! Unfortunately, it also looked hard and my mom stopped playing (she has a famously awful memory but she still remembers ...

Re: Games Completed 2021

I finished Hard Reset Redux last night. It's a fun enough game with an interesting weapon system. I never got involved with the story or the world, but it had some fun arenas to blast things away. I do think, for any arena shooter, there's a long shadow from DOOM 2016 but Hard Reset was quick enough...

Re: Our next console special podcast recording (24.10.21): Nintendo GameCube

This is where I became a traitor to my beloved Nintendo. As a kid, I was 100% a Nintendo fanboy, a console warrior who hated Playstation (yes, I know, I was obnoxious. I've changed, I swear.) But, as much as I campaigned for and then loved my Nintendo 64, there was something about the Gamecube that ...
