If this is the bug, Kotaku reckons there's a workaround...

I think I've got it pinned down: The game struggles to stay connected to the Injustice services if you put the console to sleep while the app is running. There have been two times where I've had to quit the app entirely and reopen it to get the services to connect, and both of those times my account and character levels have been rolled back to a previous game session (though all of your unlocks and loot remains, thankfully). The recommended solution online is to shut down your console entirely (it's apparently a problem in how the game uses the cache), but I'm reasonably certain just closing the app before putting the console to sleep will suffice. I'll post again if this turns out not to be the case.
James wrote: May 25th, 2017, 9:00 pm Robin looked great, but I'm not sure if I can stomach playing a character that obnoxious. Evil, sure, but he just seems like a nasty brat. Can you tell that I'm not good at picking characters?!
He's definitely a little shitbag, but I like his fighting style. The first time in maybe ever I've actually been interested in Robin as a character.
James wrote: May 25th, 2017, 9:00 pm I was wondering about that. Right now I'm holding on to everything, because I don't know what I'll want to end up using, looks-wise and stats-wise. Problem is that most of it is for characters I may well never use.
I know that in some of the Guild Multiverse stuff your guild members need to "sacrifice" a certain number of certain qualities of loot to unlock that tower, but I don't think we're ever going to do that much in our guild. At least we can work on the trophies!

I see myself inevitably selling everything that's blues and grey automatically and picking and choosing which yellows I want to hang onto.

If you leave the game running when the PS4 is in standby, Street Fighter V still shows you as online. After a few invites whilst I wasn't even playing the game, I learned to shut it down before switching the console off. A daft thing, but I've naturally been doing this with I2 as well. Fortunately!

Yeah, Robin does seem very effective as a speedy, rushdown fighter.

I think I've only seen yellows with a Set Bonus, so I assumed I'd want to be using a matched set of level 20 Epic gear eventually. I just thought I might want the lower-tier gear to Transform the look of the gear I'm actually using. Presumably I need the nice-looking, but low-level gear in my inventory as a template?

I dunno, I'm still very early days on all this. And probably making it more complicated than it really is.

Hanging onto lower-level stuff so you can transmog into appearances you like is definitely a strategy, but how can I show off my massive epeen if I'm transmogging my top-level sets into other items just because I like the way they look better? In the choice between subterfuge and intimidation, I choose intimidation... because I'll never be good enough for subterfuge to do me any good (meaning I'll never be good enough where hiding what set I'm using will make a meaningful difference in where I'm at in the metagame).

EDIT: Although I suppose if I'm ever at "that point," I'll be playing the competitive mode anyway which doesn't let you use items at all.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. In Ranked I want to look exactly as badass as I'm not, and that means picking gear based solely on aesthetics.

You can equip it to change the look of the character, but the stat bonuses won't apply. At least, that's my understanding.

Until the 6th of June there's a Wonder Woman multiverse event running which when complete will reward you with a full set of epic items that make up the costume she has in the new movie.

It's a pretty easy event (helped by the fact that Wonder Woman is a pretty easy character to get to grips with), all the stages except the last are 'any level' ones, and the final 'level 20+' stage is just a single fight with Cheetah which I won with a level 10 Wonder Woman.

Thanks for the heads up, Flabyo. They're doing much the same on the I2 mobile app (a friend of mine is playing it and let me know... honest  ).

Now that I've finished the story, and the character tutorials, I guess completing the Multiverse Battle Simulator with each character is my next step. I'll definitely get the WW event done too though.

Needless to say, I still haven't got my head around how my time's best spent to get the most out of online, Multiverse and Guild.

As an aside, playing more Aquaman I'm starting to find his pretty low/slow mobility to be an annoyance. It's compounding my poor decisions and execution that I have limited get-away options. I don't really have a preferred character type, but I dabbled with Abel in SFIV and Cammy in SFV; currently thinking that either Robin or Supergirl might be worth looking at. If I complete Battle Simulation for each character then I'll have ample chance to try everyone out a bit more.

Speaking of poor execution, I played story mode with my fight stick, but have switched to pad since. Some of the combos seem easier to hit with less distance to traverse across the controller, but I keep on hitting erroneous inputs and/or otherwise messing up. I'm sure it's just lack of practice and my oafish thumbs, but the down-back-forward motion, in particular, is causing me problems. Getting only about 50% success rate on the Bane Bomb, for example.

Apparently Aquaman's special power is bugged right now, too. Not sure how specifically, but that's what I've read.

I can't imagine playing a NetherRealm fighter with anything but a D-Pad. I wouldn't even try.

I'd agree, but it's really frustrating to keep getting a jump or a directional attack when inputting Back-Forward motions.
I'll keep practising.

Batman and Superman are pretty straightforward for learning the basics (though difficult to master), and I'd say Green Lantern is quite flexible and not too tough to pick up.

I don't know if Flabyo would agree, and I absolutely defer to him, but I'd recommend playing through the story. You'll play as all the above mentioned characters, and can then tackle Tutorials and/or Battle Simulator for each character to see who you like the feel of. (Do play the general Tutorials when you start the game though.)

Again, I'm no expert at all, but finding a character I like is far and away the most important thing for me. Even if they're tough to use, I'll have the incentive to learn and persist.

Oh, and don't forget to join the Cane And Rinse Guild once you hit Level 5 on your profile level. The ID is the unique identifier to search for. :-)

Yeah, you'll want to play through story to get the feel for about half of the cast. Don't be discouraged if you find any fight tough, the game scales the difficulty down a little each time you lose in story mode.

Green Arrow is a fun one to learn, has some nice easy move strings, a lot of which you can easily cancel into a special. His character power is worth learning too, those freeze arrows seem to utterly bamboozle the AI.

Green lantern is fairly striaghtforward, so is Supergirl.

The only ones I'd say to avoid at first are Brainiac and Darkseid, those are expert level dudes.

Wonder Woman and Batman are both straightforward, I'd start with them. Most of their combos are all neutral.

Can't agree on Harley Quinn.

I've been sticking to the multiverse stuff at the moment and choosing random at character select. The only one I have found awful to use is Captain Cold. The one's I have had most fun with is Supergirl and Black Canary

Captain Cold seemed like he *could* be fun, but there's a lot of gun management. Possibly one for the more experienced players to get the most out of, and certainly way beyond my capabilities. ;-)

Spent the last couple of nights putting together and practicing a couple of Robin combos. They are the most basic of combos (212 XX DB2 MB, and the wildly similar 212 XX BF3 MB), culminating in an expensive 2-bar, 9-hit, 300-damage combination of the two. I'm not so much bothered about how useful the combos are as just putting something together from the move list.

In other news, there was a large update earlier in the week that added Red Hood to the character customisation menu (he's currently inaccessible), and briefly showed the other DLC character silhouettes on the character selection screen. Further speculation is now rife as to who those are, beyond those already confirmed (Starfire, Sub Zero and the aforementioned Red Hood). Black Manta and Raiden seem like locks, consensus seems to be forming around Atom and Enchantress, whilst Rorschach/Constantine and Spawn/Azreal debates are ongoing.

Red Hood is now out. I've spent half an hour or so practicing with him and he seems quite tough to use. Still not settled on a character, as I'm having so much fun mucking about with the whole cast.

Oh, and Sub Zero is the next DLC character...

Looks very cool. ;) And seems quite different to Captain Cold or Killer Frost.
