I spent all of last night playing online in Street Fighter 30th. Lots of fun, but I was surprised that I didn't spend much time in II or Alpha 3, which were the games I owned and played when I was younger. I spend the majority in Third Strike, which I've never played until last night. Part of that is because that's where match-ups happen the fastest, but also because it's just so brand new to me. It really is something else.
I wish the damn collection came with cross-platform play, but it's just nice to have all those games together like this.

Try Dirt Rally for a current gen rally game, it's brilliant. Hard as nails, you really have to learn the car and tracks. You can't rely on powersliding your way to victory in that one! Yeah I enjoyed the first Dirt though, too. It was probably the last in the long running Colin McRae* series that I actually enjoyed, before it got quite so over the top extreme yo-bro about everything.

*I know they dropped the McRae name after his untimely death, but I still count them as one long series right from the first McRae game on the PS1 up to the latest releases.
I played Dirt 3 roughly a year ago and enjoyed it but the first Dirt game I found to be a lot better. Really good visuals for such an old game. I might check out DiRT 2 soon.

Sega Rally online arcade (360/PS3) was a really good rally game but I think it's been removed now,

Hey, look whose internet turned back on!

Are you sure it's the boss and not you who's gone soft as a result of your... "ludo-diet"?

I bought a physical copy and am playing offline! It’s a pity, as I hear the Bell of Awakening is ringing non stop these days!

I’ve always said he’s a terrible boss :)

I’m always surprised that this game is considered the best in the series when it has all these Amateur Hour bosses :)

Unfathomable! Desperate times are clearly calling for desperate measures over at the Chopper estate!

Yeah, some of the DS1 bosses are rather subpar... But the level design in the first half is superb and Artorias is Artorias, so I think the game is still worth playing over the latest body pillow simulator. :P

Yeah, it took forever to get the last head on the Hydra too. I’ve really enjoyed my jaunt through the game so far, rocking a reinforced club and everything goes down pretty easily.

Having a great time peering down into valley of the drakes, Blighttown etc. The geography is great.

*deletes several lines about the role of the aqueduct*

Enjoying it so far, it’s long enough ago that I don’t remember everything so that’s good.

I've been enjoying a bit of down time the past couple of weeks, so not much gaming. However I have been dipping in and out of Vainglory, the free-to-play mobile MOBA. It's a genre that has piqued my interest but my Mac simply isn't able to run any of the big titles at an acceptable level, so I found myself looking for a mobile alternative.

I prefer Vainglory over Arena of Valor, which is the other big mobile title. I understand that the latter is the more full-blooded experience as it shares some of its DNA with League of Legends. However I prefer the overall aesthetic of Vainglory. Also, Arena of Valor contains some DC Comics characters like Batman and Superman and that really started to pull me out of the experience. It's a MOBA, so there's no story of course, however having superheroes alongside the native fantasy characters shattered any sense of lore or worldbuilding.

Vainglory is obviously a watered down experience when compared to the likes of DOTA 2, but it's still a good introduction to the genre. I enjoy trying out the different classes and learning and adjusting to new roles and responsibilities. It's the type of thing I enjoyed about Overwatch but a straight-up MOBA suits me a lot more than a FPS, where I struggle to hold my own.

So that's me at the moment. Less is definitely more when it comes to gaming right now. I've drawn a line under my OCD, scattershot approach to buying and playing games, and have instead rolled up my sleeves and started to dig into one title and genre. Although I'll probably make a start on Warcraft III later today. It's a good opportunity to get a RTS title in the bag and of course it'll be interesting to see the very origin of the MOBA genre. Plus my 13" Mac will feel like a cinema screen when compared to my smartphone!

I've grabbed myself the Z.O.E. platinum trophy yesterday and am currently knee-deep in Z.O.E.2. It's a fantastic game I've been meaning to replay for over ten years now. Very glad that the incentive of playing along with the podcast has finally pushed me over the edge.

It's a damn shame we don't (and probably never will) have a third entry in this gem of a franchise.

Started Kingdom Hearts Final Mix last night after deciding it was going to be my play in bed before I sleep game.

Only an hour in, but it's an absolute delight so far!

I always thought it was a turn based RPG like the FF games, but it's more Zelda if anything.

Resident Evil: Zero, on the GameCube.

This game just goes in hard straight off the bat.

I’ve just finished the train section and I’m into the Training Facility.

NICE
Sadly, I don’t think I have the enthusiasm to finish this.

I’m what feels like, two thirds of the way though perhaps.

It’s just totally ground to a halt for me, interest wise. The story is going in a limp direction I’m not that I’m not at all fussed about and I’m finding the location uninspiring.

The gameplay is OK, I enjoy it, just not what’s around it.

I’m invested in it, it’s just not delivering.

I think I’m going to play something else.
I had to have a break about half way through....a 2 year break!
I feel oddly guilty for abandoning this game.

I'll give it a break and come back to it like you did, maybe not 2 years tough !!

Haven't been able to find one solid thing to stick to after finishing God of War. Bought and played a decent amount of Detroit but I'm having trouble staying interested. I've been almost without deviation alternating nightly through Detroit, Celeste and yet another run of Bloodborne (I'm trying to clean up trophies I haven't gotten yet and I just love being in that world.)

I restarted Red Dead Redemption the other day since its enhanced on Xbox One X, and I'm extremely pleasantly surprised by how well it holds up, and how graphically nice it is. Extremely pleasantly surprised.

Also Dark Souls remaster. Not that great a remaster, but its dark souls so I'm hopelessly in love with it.

Is anyone familiar with a mobile game called 'Out There'.

I remember being well into this years ago and was very fond of it's language mechanism and artwork.

Damn hard though  .

It just popped into my head, I may re-download it and see what has changed - if anything.

I’ve had Out There on my iPad for years and never played it. Until now! What a cool game. I’m not massive into spaceship management but this is pretty simple to grasp and there’s a great risk-reward system at play. You’re right -it’s pretty unforgiving though! Thanks for that. I’ll play it some more later!

I’m still completely torn on Mario Tennis Aces, three days after the online tournament demo ended. I’ve now pre-ordered and cancelled twice. On the one hand there was too much going on - there’s still no tennis game I’ve enjoyed more than the pure, simple arcade fun of Tennis (featuring Mario) on the Game Boy; on the other hand, despite it feeling more like Street Fighter than the tennis game I wanted, I couldn’t stop playing it! Now I’m thinking of pre-order number three because I think it will probably end up being my game of the year!

Also had a horrible moment twelve hours into Golf Story when I thought it was turning into Monkey Island, but fortunately the quest in question wasn’t quite as obscure as I first feared, and with a bit of trial and error I got it behind me and we’re back to golfing on what seems to be somewhere near the end of the game, which does sadden me a bit as I’ve really enjoyed it.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince (Xbox 360) -

I played this game on the PS3 around 5 years ago and quite enjoyed it. Decided to go back to it this time on the 360, and really, this game is excellent.

I have no interest in Harry Potter really (only saw the first movie and didn't like it) but this game is very good. The story is quite short but interesting and there's a lot of fun to be found after (quiditch matches, dueling fights, mixing potions, and generally exploring the school). It looks very good too. Controls could have been slightly better but still an excellent game.

4.5/5

Yeah, I forget how it sprung into my head, I think I was thinking about No Man's Sky and how I enjoyed the language mechanics - which reminded me that perhaps they got the inspiration from 'Out There'. Or something similar.

I used to play it on the train into Town each morning and I remember it's compelling gameplay, artwork and short run mentality.

Like I said, I'm fairly certain it's been updated quiet a bit since then so I should get back into it really, I just very much dislike playing games on my phone.

When I think of No Man's Sky, two mid-late 80s games always spring to mind: Captain Blood and Explorer (by Electric Dreams)

The language thing goes back at least as far as Starflight. Now there’s an old game I’ve not thought about for a while.

True, Starflight predates Captain Blood ever so slightly. I believe we played some music from it on SoP recently.
