"I had faith in you. In your ability to hate, in your self-righteous indignation"

1999 saw the release of the second title in the Legacy of Kain series, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, to critical acclaim. Join Karl, Michiel and special guests, Mark Hamer and Digital Foundry’s John Linneman discuss Crystal Dynamic’s technical juggernaut. Does the story of Raziel’s revenge still hold up to today’s standards? We discuss it all, from challenging development, lawsuits, hardware limitations and of course, just why Soul Reaver is still so revered.

Music used in this issue:

1. Ozar Midrashim by Information Society
2. Ruined City by Kurt Harland

Cane and Rinse 279 was edited by Jay Taylor.

I enjoyed this podcast a lot, even though I bounced off the game quite a bit.

I remember getting it on the Dreamcast and being really excited to get into it but just didn't.

I can remember thinking it was overly janky and dare I say, a bit boring :( .

That being my personal case, I thoroughly enjoyed the podcast. Funny how that works out sometimes.

I have never played Legacy of Kain, but that was a really interesting episode in terms of the discussion of the game's technical ingenuity under the hood. I'll definitely look into John's videos now!
