ah, ok, I thought that faction gear was the stuff I should be looking to pick up.
Where should I be looking for the best gear then?
I've noticed that pretty much everything I've been picking up since I hit level 20 has been pretty much completely useless (apart from melting it down for parts to upgrade)

Your primary Vanguards sell armour that'll take you to level 31 and, in my opinion, they're the easiest ones to acquire with just bounties, strikes and public events.

I can't normally get on until about half 8.
I think I'm going to focus on levelling myself a bit more before I take another swing at a raid (also, I need to try and stop my internet from exploding)

I know you most people on here are more PS4 focused & I'd love to join you but I'm only lvl 26 on that copy of the game so it'd take me a while to get up to speed to join you unfortunately.

Don't worry about that, we had a level 23 join us on the VoG and we did alright. Crota is a somewhat different kettle of fish though but you should definitely join us on the PS4 side of things sometime.

Just buy the legendary armour from the Vanguards - take you to level 31 when levelled up.

I'm on the push to do this, I'm doing as many of the daily bounties as I can, as well as doing a couple of strikes in the playlist.
Now I'm at level 25, I can just about roll through the daily strike on my own too, which has been giving me a whole bunch of vanguard points, and I've had some pretty decent loot drops (new helmet, and a decent rocket launcher)

oh, I've also taken off my Faction banner, so now I'm getting vanguard points, rather than faction points, kinda annoying, because I've hit level one with my faction, and now in hindsight, I wish I'd had that level up for vanguard, but ah well.
