Ryan_astley - Micro Machines! Yes!

That should absolutely be in my list, although I'd probably shoot for Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament over the original. Some of the my greatest multiplayer memories are with that game and my childhood best friend Chris. That version also featured Violet Berlin from Bad Influence as a playable character! Ah the memories......

Love the Micromachines games, I'd love them to make a comeback in some shape or form. Racing round a breakfast table dodging baked beans and waffles made for great entertainment. One of my co-workers worked on the megadrive and NES versions back in the day, made me geek out a little!

Micromachines was a great series and I'd love it to make a xbla/psn comeback. It didn't make my list as Mario Kart trumps it for me and I was being strict.

Does anyone remember Beetle Adventure Racing on the N64? That was a fantastic racing game too.

See I find this affection for MM interesting because the team behind Micro Machines 2, Micro Machines Turbo Tournament 96, Micro Machines Military and Micro Machines V4 made a spiritual successor for XBLA that came out a year ago, yet no-one talked about it and no-one bought it:

That's weird that's the first time I've ever seen this. To the dashboard!

I warn you though, the reviews weren't very kind.

I had no idea the guys behind Micro Machines who were responsible for that. Actually, all I really knew about it was it generally reviewed poorly, so maybe they'd prefer people didn't make the link.

Here's my 50.

It's a 1st draft as far as I'm concerned as it's not really in order and it favors recent games fresh in my mind. Also I've cheated in places by putting sequels in the descriptions of some games.

Wasn't a fan of Wrecked, I personally felt the XBLA/PSN release of the WRC3 game did a much more fun job. Sadly nothing has come close to matching the magic of Micro Machines and those fantastically thought out tracks.

Would it be okay for me to bump this ancient thread? I would love to read the lists of today's regular community members, and I would also be interested to know how some of the oldtimers' tastes and preferences may have evolved over the past five years. :)

I'll post mine in a few days if the thread manages to gain a minimum amount of traction.

Yeah, good shout bumping this. This’ll be a good read.

Although I very much doubt I’d be able to come up with a top 50  .

I'm taking my list very seriously. Since I'm a barely sentient Neanderthal who doesn't know how to operate a computer, I've jotted down my 50+ names onto little pieces of paper and I'm now painstakingly rearranging them until I get the ranking juuust right. Results to be posted shortly.

You’re arranging them in order of preference?!! I’m finding it difficult enough to choose 50 let alone put them in order!

Well those of you who have been in the Backlogs thread recently know that I have a working list of every game I have ever, ever played, and I threatened to rank them - 50 seems like a reasonable number to start with!

I will report back!

I will kick it off with a top 10, just so I don't get overwhelmed. It'll probably be a blob of similar games outside of the top ten.

I only came to gaming with the Wii, so recency bias etc.
Spoiler: show
1. Demon's Souls
2. Mount & Blade (2008)
3. Out of the Park Baseball (annual)
4. Dark Souls
5. SOMA
6. Far Cry 2
7. Superhot VR
8. Firewatch
9. Factorio
10. Beyond: Two Souls

I'm increasingly finding it very hard to make lists like this. I can't create a top 10 anymore, because I've played too many games of that kind of calibre to do that anymore.

THAT said, thought I'd give this a go (can't see my 2013 list on this thread, as I deleted it)

SOOOOO
Spoiler: show
Alien: Isolation
Bastion
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Bayonetta
Bioshock
Bloodborne
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Cave Story
Chrono Trigger
Dark Souls
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening
DOOM (2016)
FEZ
Final Fantasy VII
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
God of War 2
Half-Life 2
Halo: Reach
Hitman (2016)
Inside
Journey
The Last of Us
Left 4 Dead
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Mark of the Ninja
Mass Effect 2
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Overwatch
Persona 3: FES
Persona 4
Portal 2 (I love the first too! 50 is a small number these days)
Red Dead Redemption
Resident Evil (Remake)
Resident Evil 4
REZ
Shadow of the Colossus
Shovel Knight
Sid Meier's Civilization V
SOMA
Spelunky
StarCraft 2: Wing of Liberty
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Meat Boy
Super Metroid
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Vanquish
XCOM 2
I will probably hate this list within hours.

EDIT: Also, this is in alphabetical order. Not ranked

If I ever get to 50, I think I will have maybe 5 in common with you :)

11-20 for me:
Spoiler: show
11. Konami's Soccer *
12. The Long Dark
13. Fallout 3**
14. Bioshock**
15. Miasmata
16. Knightlore
17. Stellaris
18. Red Dead Redemption**
19. The Elder Scrolls Oblivion**
20. Endless Space 1
* I asked my brother, was this the best game we played as kids? His reply: "Really, PES 2018 is only marginally better than that game. And its sound effects aren't that good. That tackle sound..."

** It's not as if I ever really think about these games any more, but they were huge favourites at the time I played them.
