Very close, I think I might've made this quiz a step too difficult so I'm adding a cheat sheet which should help speed things up.

No penalties for using it but I'll spoiler tag in case anyone likes "I am Death incarnate!" difficulty:
Spoiler: show
1. SRPG published by Sega, featured in the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection released on PS3/Xbox 360
4. Developed by Nippon Ichi Software, first in the series on PlayStation 3
6. Developed by Blizzard Entertainment, released on the SNES and PC in 1994
8. Ported to the Sega Saturn by Lobotomy Games with an additional exclusive hidden game: Death Tank Zwei
10. Released in Japan on the Sega Saturn, supports the 4MB RAM Cartridge
12. Published by THQ and released on the Nintendo DS
14. Preceded by Indiana Jones and His Desktop Adventures
17. Developed by Data East and referenced by Welsh rock band Lostprophets on their debut album
18. Sequel on Game Boy Advance, remastered and re-released last year on XBLA
19. Developed by SquareSoft, Japanese release in 1992 on the SNES
20. Very first CPS game released by Capcom, also ported to the Genesis/Mega Drive
22. Spiritual successor to Gun.smoke and Commando, released in arcades and ported to console in 1991

Both 12 and 19 are soo close, the answers you're looking for are a little more mainstream.

Both games are within 2 titles of the correct answer from the chronological order of the developers' softographies

(5th cell and Squaresoft)

I knew I'd be close on 19, considering
Spoiler: show
only four games from Square came out that year, let alone in Japan.
Similarly for 12, since
Spoiler: show
there aren't that many sprite-based games from THQ, even on the DS.
Spoiler: show
12: Drawn to Life
19: Final Fantasy V

You should try relatively obscure quotes; that seems to hold people up for a little while.
