Game suggestions for the podcast
Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
Im pretty sure this game was already suggested but I just have to mention again Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines, not only a great game but one that would incredibly interesting hearing the podcast panel talk about in it's aspects
Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
I've always wanted to play The Masquerade. Would give me a good reason to!
Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
I'd like to toss in a suggestion for Super Mario Strikers on the GameCube. After having shows covering Football Manager and Kick Off, I'd really like to hear the team's thoughts on a less serious take on the sport. Perhaps this could lead to covering the entirety of (what I consider) the golden age of Mario sports games: Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Mario Baseball, and Double Dash.

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
I will add this - and its follow-up - to the list!
Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
I'd like to nominate The Witness please. Huge apologies if I've mentioned this one before, I lose track! Also, has the Codemasters Dizzy series ever been considered? They'd be great, and a brilliant excuse to go back and check whether nostalgia is clouding my judgement on them!

The Witness and all the Dizzy games are on the list.
Not sure that we'll ever get enough of the team to complete either to actually make a show though.

Probably already been suggested, but if not, Little Inferno.
Easy to play on several formats. Quick to finish. Cheap to buy. Odd gameplay. Ambiguous, interesting ending.
Would love to hear the team's thoughts on it!

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
Has the Worms series being considered at all? I have fantastic childhood memories of the 2nd one and Armageddon. They were my only multiplayer experience on the PC and I do not regret that one bit! Also its turn based battle system predisposed me in a weird way to get into JRPGS which is a genre I greatly enjoy. Worms is a big factor into the type of games I enjoy today so it will always be associated with some good times for me.
But anyway, great multiplayer, full of personality and humour and should be easy to get a team for an episode as there are a million different versions of the game so pretty accessible. It is like Tetris with invertebrates.

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
I'm just going to throw a few out there, in case they've not been mentioned, which I expect they have:
Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders
Dizzy Series
The Chaos Engine
Pirates!
Street Fighter 4 (I personally think this is the most accessible and yet deepest, best SF game)
Repton Series
Wipeout
Another World & Flashback
Leisure Suit Larry
Excite Truck
Rhythm Heaven
Resogun
Super Bomberman
Not necessarily all great games but all notable to me in some way.

Worms is one of those games that tangentially played a part in my getting into the games industry. It's a long and dull story, but you might find the older spelling of my forum handle in the credits of one of those games...
Flashback would be a good one, just don't expect many people to want to play through Fade to Black as well... heh...

We did that one nearly 200 issues ago: http://caneandrinse.com/rhythm-heaven-s ... -rinse-45/Rhythm Heaven
Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
OK, cheers, Leon. Can't believe I missed Rhythm Heaven while working through the archives. Perhaps I need a more robust system! And I do appreciate that Leisure Suit Larry is quite a grimy game, just scouring the memory banks of my Amiga days. I'll look forward to some of the 'alreadys' popping up in time.

I'd enjoy hearing the Roguelike/lite players on the team talk about Darkest Dungeon.

I will add the LSL games to the list becuase in some ways they would be interesting conversation pieces.Stanshall wrote:And I do appreciate that Leisure Suit Larry is quite a grimy game, just scouring the memory banks of my Amiga days.
Here's a mini-review of the original game's HD re-release I wrote in 2013, to tide you over:
If you loved the original Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards, Reloaded is a serviceable remake.
It’s probably a good thing that you now don’t need to read the rest of this review.
The original Leisure Suit Larry (1987) was a well-regarded graphic adventure featuring the staple pattern of play for the genre.
That is to say: visit a series of locations (casinos, shops, brothels); pick up random objects; eventually deduce which items combine to bypass whatever obstructive puzzles are standing between you and some censored nookie.
While the game appears to want to satirise the seediness of virginal 30-something Larry’s quest for carnal pleasure, playing the game succeeded in making us feel quite icky.
The Larry character himself isn’t a loveable loser so much as a socially maladjusted predator – not the sort of archetype we’d normally choose to play as.
The whole affair might have been hilarious in the 80s, but now it feels desperately dated.
The constant gags and sarcastic narration are predictable and feeble, while the chatter veers from coy and suggestive to fairly in your face, often without rhyme or reason.
We’ve nothing against adult humour whatsoever, but it needs to have a consistent tone and it needs to be funny – especially when it’s got to hold together such a thin and boring game.
Bobbins. Oh, unless you thought the Keith Lemon movie was great, in which case go for it.

Ouch! Thanks for that, though. My memories of playing it and getting nowhere in particular as a 12-year-old are probably limited for the best.
