Re: What's Out This Week?
It's a 1000+ page novel about a few families involved in the construction of a fictional cathedral in 12th century England, taking place over the course of 30 years or so. It's pretty dry and heavy (much as I liked it).KSubzero1000 wrote: ↑August 11th, 2017, 8:25 pmInteresting. I have never heard of the book, what exactly makes you say that?
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad developers are thinking with a broader scope about subject material. It just seems like such a bizarre choice when there's so many novels ripe for adaptation.
Re: What's Out This Week?
I'm a bit shocked to see The Long Dark appear for PS4 last night, as I thought it was only ever planned for Microsoft machines. Really tempted to get it, though I have it on PC already and loved it there.
The new story mode is a bit ropy, it seems.

Re: What's Out This Week?
It was quite the issue, when the PS4 version was announced back in May. There was a countdown teasing what some folks hoped/assumed was the official release of the game. This turned a bit sour on Reddit when people realised the countdown was actually to a trailer for the PS4 version and the story mode (below):
Here's an interview with the game's Creative Director, Raphael van Lierop, in which he discusses missteps the studio (Hinterland) made in this reveal, and also how he feels about the hostile reaction they faced from a small part of the community. A very interesting read, I thought.

Same! I don't play on PC at all, but this is one of those games that are just receiving too much praise to ignore. I'm very glad it's coming to PS4 soon. And Hollow Knight as well!

Sonic Mania is getting some amazing reviews. Basically, it's really good because it could have come out 23 years ago apparently.

For any Sonic fan that lived through the last 23 years that's exactly why.seansthomas wrote: ↑August 14th, 2017, 9:01 pm Sonic Mania is getting some amazing reviews. Basically, it's really good because it could have come out 23 years ago apparently.
As a fan of Sim City 2000, I can also say that if EA release a Sim City 2001 that harks back 20 years, I'd be there so fast you might think I'm Sonic!
Re: What's Out This Week?
I bought Sonic this morning. It is good.

(Semi) pro tip for buying Sonic Mania on the switch. Change your region on my nintendo to russia, and its signficantly cheaper on their E-Shop, and you can change it back afterwards, cost me €9.90 instead of €20.

Yeah, lovely tip. Thanks chase!
Re: What's Out This Week?
Thanks for that, I tend to keep radio silence on games that have extended releases/episodic content so I hadn't realised there was a PS4 version.James wrote: ↑August 13th, 2017, 1:24 pm Here's an interview with the game's Creative Director, Raphael van Lierop, in which he discusses missteps the studio (Hinterland) made in this reveal, and also how he feels about the hostile reaction they faced from a small part of the community. While the response was, as usual, reprehensible, I can actually understand where it came from in this case. The game spent a long time in early access, and the story mode was promised for years, so I would think that it was a bit of a misjudgement on the developer's part to dress up PR as something more substantial there.
Of course the manbaby element was upset; it also has the real or perceived optics of 'delaying development to launch a version on a competing platform', so it was more grist to the angry gamer's mill.

Re: What's Out This Week?
For sure, the dev made mistakes, and admitted as much. It's the tone of the response that irks me most of all. Seeing a lot of this in the Fighting Game Community at the moment with Street Fighter V; it's tough to make out considered complaints amongst all the screaming, yelling and spitting of bile.

Yep, £9 in GBP or thereabouts (as opposed to £16) by clicking a few things before buying Sonic Mania:
