The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth - Remake incoming!

Post by dezm0nd »

Quite possibly my favourite game this gen? The Binding of Isaac has stolen 89 hours of my time so far but the news of a console remake has got my excited to continue on playing it on whatever system is lands on. Not a port, but a recreation by Nicalis (of Cave Story, VVVVVV publishing fame) and is looking pretty good with its new GBA-style art.

Mock-a-mock up images representing what the final art style will look like.

I honestly don't know what to say to this.

I've played about 8 hours of Binding, and there is something there that I think would have really hooked me even more, if I could have played it properly with twin sticks. The Joy2Key settings didn't really it cut it, and I also wasn't keen on the mouse option. I felt like I died because of the controls a lot :( (But I also admit I'm old and slow ;))

I think the retro art style for the remake is a strange decision though? Wouldn't a version on XBLA with tweaked controls be just fine? I really like how the original looks!

I think the aim is to hit a SNES style with the art and this is very early stuff we're seeing. Its not due for about a year according to Edmund mcmillens blog so it'll be interesting to see how it evolves.

I think the move away from flash is smart as you'll get a game which will control perfectly for the consoles its suited for and to make it more appealing for console manufacturers to allow it to be put on their system.

More exposure of Isaac is good news to me and personally I would love to see it come to Wii U/Vita. It would feel right with a single screen in your hands, somehow.

You're right, it would be amazing on Vita!

I appreciate they have to move away from the Flash, but I just don't need it to be another retro-pixely game. It looked cool to start with :)

Agree'd 100%. I love the game bit there's no denying that the flash art style looks like pieces of paper floating around on the background.

Just go ahead and inject the Vita version directly into my veins.

Destructoid. By way of Edmund McMillan, I'd assume.

Edmunds Twitter posted the montage shot and Dtoid posted the others. A fan photoshopped what Jonathon Holmes would look like in the game which basically involved drawing over Steven from TIME FCUK

Finally bought the original on PC (just now), Super Meat Boy was way too intense to pass this up. Any idea how the dlc works (not bought it yet), am I best getting it down the line?

Isn't the DLC only another dollar or something? In any case, it's well worth getting.

Yeah definitely get Wrath of The Lamb God. adds heaps of new stuff. I didn't really get into the game without it.

Thanks guys, I'm on the case. I've found the game amazing with just the items available in the standard release, it's felt like a new game every time I start over.

Seeing those 30 plus hours clocked up by almost anyone who plays it makes almost too much sense.

Just tried it and ended up sucking out my own soul with a dogs paw, I've got a lot of learning to do again and I'm pretty sure I've only seen 50% of the items in the original version :o

Half way to getting the polaroid but I can't for the life of me kill the final boss in the cathedral as Cain.

One day... I will smash it

Same, beaten it 2 out of 5 times. once as Isaac, and once as Maggy. found the D6 helped a lot.

I've played about 8hrs of Isaac and still haven't even reached the boss at the end of The Depths. I know... I'm crap!

I'm going to try scrapping Joy2Key and going with the plain old keys. The right stick shooting is just too fiddly.

There's a definite breakthrough point with Isaac and I think that's when you first beat Mom.

Don't worry James, I know I struggled with progress in the game due to my inability to play top down games like this (and geo wars etc) and the wonky controls.
