I re-uploaded the file just to see if it would somehow refresh the feed, beyond this I really don't know what the problem could be as everything I've tested it on (both Apple and Android) works without a problem.

Also if you just search for Cane and Rinse on your podcast app you can download the whole back catalogue, too. I subscribe to both the normal and Patreon feeds because for some reason the one off shows like interviews and stuff don't seem to come up on the Patreon feed.

Thanks for the info. I had done the same however both feeds intermingled and it became extremely messy. Sorted now though!

Update on this. The April show also didn't appear. I couldn't load the url again but I reset the feed and it now works (reset smart folders in radiopublic).

Not sure how this translates to other feeds.

BTW the fuss of manually downloading the ff9 show was worth it, great episode

As a brief caveat, this is nothing I'm expecting a reply to or for anyone to explain or justify in any way. I appreciate it's a can of worms but I've thought it for a long while, it's intended as wholly complimentary and, basically, recent events have prompted me to finally just say it:

In my frank opinion, you undersell yourselves with the Patreon. I think the minimum pledge is too little and without knowing anything about the numbers I believe that your best return from a very passionate but relatively niche audience would be a higher barrier to entry, with tiers, stretch goals and exclusives.

I genuinely don't mean this as criticism of how you operate or of the shows or the team in any way. Trying to 'monetise' is obviously something very personal, very difficult to do without compromising the integrity and quality of the show, and without irking a portion of the audience. You've no doubt long considered a range of perspectives and approaches. It's very likely too that none of what I'm saying is novel in any way, but even simply as an acknowledgement of the quality of what you produce and as a gesture of support, I feel like I should say it.

Cane and Rinse is very clearly a labour of love, it's consistently entertaining and insightful and in my opinion, it has genuine cultural value. And I do feel that if you want a greater financial reward for the quality and quantity of what you produce each week, you should feel comfortable and very justified in asking for it.

Again, for whatever little it's worth and with no explicit or implicit criticism intended, that's my feeling and my rationale. All the best.

We’re still trying to think of ways of adding value without putting our existing patrons’ noses out of joint or making it so that we can’t cope with the workload.

We could simply put the price of entry up but we wouldn’t feel good about it, and we’d obviously risk cancellations from those who are only able to (or are only happy to) pay a single dollar.

As we’ve always said, we welcome suggestions with open arms!


NB: We’ve had several patrons up their pledge from the minimum $1 to $5 this week; we might have our old frenemies to thank for that...

I wholeheartedly agree with Stanshall.

I can’t remember what my pledge is but I think I worked out how much I spent on games magazines every month which I didn’t read and decided to give it to you instead.

I look forward to the various podcasts every week and I can’t say that about many forms of media nowadays so you deserve it.

I support a few other Patreons at the basic level which is usually well above the dollar you are asking for and get very little for that. You offer so much and although I think there is something honest and wonderful about it being a dollar a month it should be more.

Even without going into the topic of how much to charge for the extended version of a podcast in absolute terms, speaking purely in relative terms to what other content creators are charging for what they're offering in comparison, I think you could be a tiny bit more aggressive with your pricing.

Ideas:

-Patreon Picks: certain tier gets to vote on a game or series from a shortlist of games you plan to cover anyway?
-Live Show? Not sure how that would work but an idea. Certain tier includes first refusal on tickets?
-sound of play - patreon request only show. Could get messy but you play what we request anyway?
-set an arbitrary target that’s achievable and if you hit it jay has to play Detroit haha
-certain tier you send a bit of merchandise e.g mug

These are mostly rubbish ideas but maybe a few with some merit.

The time and effort put into Cane and Rinse by the whole team is huge, it shows in its quality and consistency (Only once can I ever remember anything not arriving when it was planned to ** or alluded too).

I fully support the idea of a higher start off figure - although I understand the issues that that presents.

I support a few people via Patreon but CAR is my focus in terms of where I allocate the majority of my funds.

This is purely based on what I believe I get the most for, or from I suppose.

In my opinion the options available to the consumer that CAR offer far outweighs the others.

• The forum is class, its just a great place to waste some time or put some serious effort and love into something. Its clear that others think this also as the content and passion that this place has on its boards is excellent I think.

• The Podcast speaks for itself and has been an absolute mainstay in my weekly life for a serious number of years now. I don't know what I'd do without it.

• The visual media side of things is getting there too, it's not something I actively seek out yet but I always give teh channel a watch when it comes up in my YT feed.

For the options available to members of this club I certainly think it warrants the choice of a $2 start off figure.


On a side note but something of importance I think - Another Patreon that I support sent me a personal email thanking me for my support, as well as a few stickers, badge, Kit-Kat and tea bag. On one of the stickers was a little message, - "Thanks for your support Nick'.

It felt HUGE, totally blew me away.

I'm not saying that CAR need to do this for all 500+ of the current Patreons but the gesture and thought is maybe something that could be achieved in a different way. I know forum badges indicating that a user is a supporter has been banded about and is a good idea, something to make people feel more a part of something maybe.

Again, the effort and time put into CAR is already massive and I don't think anyone is suggesting more effort is needed its just good to chew the fat about how we can galvanise the community and encourage more supporters.

The thing is, a dollar is just the entry point, if people believe that what we do is really worth more, they are completely free to (and often do) give more.

I suppose I'd rather have more people listen and enjoy what we do than for the minimum payment than have a smaller audience of only those who were willing to pay more.

Back after a little time out as I wanted to comment on this.

I donate $5 a month as this place is a little safe haven for me over the years where I can talk with like minded individuals about my love of video games. I would probably be a patreon if the shows didn't exist. My job is hideously stressful at times so popping on here has got me through many a day.

It is the only Patreon I have.

Appreciate all the hard work you guys put into everything
