Ah, well this is awkward...
I did write a huge long post on why I didn't like it on a forum that no longer exists. I can't remember the exact reasons now, but I felt it took away the connected open world, the feeling of an epic quest, lost a lot of its charm and I didn't like the hub area with that butler. Flimsy reasons when written down like that, but I did have a long list of legitimate gripes. It was one of my most anticipated games ever, and one of a handful of day one purchases I've ever made, and I felt let down by it in almost every way. It looked great, the combat was still there too, but aside from the literal mechanics of controlling the avatar, I felt like everything else I loved about Fable 2 had been stripped away.
Playing games you don't like
Re: Playing games you don't like
I was disappointed in Fable 3 too. It was a day one purchase for me. I got it because all my friends were really hyped. I hadn't played 1 and 2 so I wasn't sure what to expect. I didn't enjoy it very much, but for some reason I finished it. Probably because I had gotten it while I was still in school and had a lot more free time.
Re: Playing games you don't like
I'm only joshing, I haven't been at Lionhead for some time now and I probably have a longer list of what I didn't like in Fable 2 and 3 than even the infamous Angry Joe video...
I think I did better work personally on 3 than I did on 2, but unless you're me you wouldn't be able to pick out the specific things I was responsible for anyway. That's game AI coding for you, if you're noticing it I've done it wrong.
I did find it strange that so many disliked 3 compared to 2, but I know that I was far too close to the project to judge it the same way a normal player would.
I *do* get a little sulky at how easily dismissed Fable: The Journey was, because there's a really fun little game there and it never really had a chance for all sorts of reasons.
