Moonlighter on Switch has me completely enthralled. I love both the dungeon crawling and the shopkeeping, and ten hours in have just made my way into the second dungeon - mechanically more of the same but a whole new ballgame.

Bit bored of Mad Max on PS4 now. I enjoy playing it but feel like I’ve seen what it has to offer and I’m wondering if I’ve had my (sale price) money’s worth yet so I can move on to something else.

And I can’t believe it took me until last Thursday to discover Mighty Bomb Jack! The original Bomb Jack is one of my favourite games ever but I had no idea it had a sequel. It’s fantastic, I can’t stop playing it, and I’ve got rather good at it!

Deracine (PSVR, From Software) is an odd duck. You play an invisible faerie in a large school grounds in the Victorian era or thereabouts. You teleport around between tableau of the children at the school, activating memories and doing a bit of very light puzzle solving. There seems to be a a story but it's all so vague it might as well not exist. There is very little interactivity. It has a creepy vibe for sure but not much else; I'll finish it out but it has not been up to much so far.

Astro Bot seems delightful.

Still have to go back to 11-11 Memories Retold, which is also pretty rubbish, as a game and also as a story (so far). The saving grace might have been intended to be the art style (animated brush strokes) but I don't particularly like it either. Pretty early in this game so hopefully it gets better.

ive stuck RDR2 on hiatus for now. Really dwindled my enthusiasm for it, sadly. Maybe its just not the right game for me at the moment.

Also im gonna shelve rusty pup but after 15 hours with it, im more than happy with my time spent.

Playing Runner 3. Its what you think it is with some nice visual surprises.

Finished MINIT the other day. 90 minutes of Majoras Mask and Links Awakening crammed into a Spectrum. Was only a fiver on Xbox One. Bargain.

Still grinding my way to the end of MGS5... spoilers for those who haven’t...
Spoiler: show
taking down the mecha wasn’t the actual end of the game, despite it rolling credits and being a good place to stop. Instead it’s kind of meandering to a slow halt now, with the new missions mostly being ‘repeat an older one but with some handicap’.

Also, the scene with quiet rolling around in the rain was hilarious, and almost certainly not the tone Kojima was going for there.

I think the problem with putting it on hiatus might be that the control scheme is so awkward, when combined with having to relearn it at some point, I might never pick it up again. I am in the same boat - the last two sessions I just rode around uncovering the map rather than doing missions, but I am slowly abandoning it. I actually tried to trade it but it turns out Smyths don't do trade ins any more and I couldn't face the centre of town for Gamestop.

I had a sarky post written yesterday about how the entire internet seems to be trying to convince themselves that it's not a terrible game, but I deleted it. Then Jay posted his paean to the game and I was glad I did. :)

Flabyo - yes, that is utterly bizarre. I stopped there, diminishing returns for me after that.

I'm in a similar situation with RDR2 I seem daunted trying to get stuck in. For example I had a 50 minute window and instead of playing RDR2 as I didn't want to be stuck mid mission when I needed to stop playing I put on Shadow Of The Tomb Raider instead.

I enjoyed the story in the first one but thought the second one was absolute bobbins. This time it has started off quite interesting even though it has been a tad bleak. Lara has already been through hell and I am only on chapter 2. They have done a metroid to reintroduce you all the mechanics by taking all your stuff off you that you had at the start and I am now picking bits up piece by piece.

She is John Rambo though. I spent one section hiding against some vines in walls before grabbing a guy and stabbing him in the neck. Combat looks to have improved a little, I was spotted which led to more guys rappelling in and them fanning out so half were flanking me. They were not stupid as usual is seems

I’m in a similar situation with Fallout 76. I’m enjoying reading the impressions of you guys all having fun, but the game you’re describing sounds like it has none of what I liked in the previous Bethesda Fallout games and lots of the stuff I didn’t :)

(Also I’m still sulking that they’ve now patched Soul Calibur 6 on the XBO and I *still* can’t connect to any online games)

It’s certainly decisive man and I can totally see why some Fallout fans would be against it.

I’m getting enough of a draw from the ever so slight story beat that pulls you through it to keep me focused and driven.

F76 is more about the moment to moment experiance with less of a focus on story.

You spend an awful lot of time on inventory management also - which can put a lot of people off.

I've busted out the NDS Lite for an impromptu Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective playthrough.

I remember very little about the plot from the first and only time I played it, which is incredibly rare for me. I'm not sure if I even finished it back then. But the beginning has been very enjoyable so far. Great sense of humor, interesting mechanics, beautifully detailed animations, top music. Love it. Want more.

...In completely unrelated news, one of my favourite word of the german vocabulary is "Ewiggestriger". It literally means "forever yesterday-er", as a (usually derogatory) way of describing someone who's stuck in the past and whose brain has stopped processing new information. *cough* 8-)

Echoing what Suits has said really. As you cannot pause it to select weapons and health you have to be super prepared at all times. It has never felt unfair so far (apart from a bugged quest I cannot finish).

I have never placed short cuts before but now it is a necessity especially for Stimpacks. You need to stop at every cooking/crafting station and see what you have and prepare. It feels way more realistic than 3/4 which understandably can read as boring. I am enjoying making my own way around and finding little tit bits. For example I am now doing a quest to find out what happened a boy who got lost at a swimming pool around the time the bombs fell. Hardly a priority but I have spent a long time doing all the bits and optional bits.

These are the quests that kept Bethesda games intersting and fun for me.

The majority of my 100+ hours in Skyrim are based almost solely on these sort of quests, love it.

What system are you playing F76 on Beardo ??

Ah, downer, I’m on Xbox.

Thinking we could have teamed up and taken out Mothdude.

Fingers crossed for cross platform.

I've been playing a lot of Fallout 4 over the last few days. When I left the game before I didn't think I'd got that far, but the clock was on 32 hours!! Playing with mods now, got one to make the waste land all nice and green which really gives it a reclaimed nature feel like TLoU, it's pretty. Also better water and weather, but nothing 'cheaty'. I forgot how much I enjoy this world. I'm currently walking around dressed as the Silver Shroud, delivering justice to bad guys. So much to discover, I've barely touched the main storyline. I really don't know whether I prefer Elder Scrolls or Fallout, they're just such brilliant, immersive and generous games.

Think im just gonna trade rdr2 in for smash in 3 weeks. Just cant see myself returning to it. I cant play it in the day and im just knackered of an evening that i cant sustain lengthy play sessions.

Ah well, not the end of the world. Ill return to it one day.

Yeah it's weird with Red Dead, I can see from what people say that it's an amazing game, but almost all the discussion actually puts me off lifestyle wise as I simply wouldn't get the time to immerse myself fully and get the most out of it. I usually don't like the controls on Rockstar games either (though I got over it for GTA V) so that stuff doesn't exactly appeal.

I'm back on Splatoon 2 single player after a bit of a hiatus and wanting to force myself to play something other than Isaac. Completed another couple of levels and have reached the boss of Sector 4. Still so, so impressed with the single player content in the game. So full of variety and a decent challenge.

Speaking of RDR2, I've finally caved in to the peer-pressure of people around me, put aside all judgements and assumptions, and decided to check out why people are making such a big deal...

That's right: I've finally booted up The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (sorry Rockstar, not a fan... maybe treat your employees better? ).

And this is the Wii U version, so it's great to look down at my little screen and see the phrase "tap here to play on Wii U GamePad only". I think it'll be safe to start playing with the pro-controller!

At least now I can safely go to the Breath of the Wild thread and play catch-up...

You’ll love it! I had the Wii U version and completed it, I now have the Switch one but to me it’s still a Wii U game and not noticeably different, certainly so far (I’m a few hours in replaying on Switch gradually). I wish they’d done more with the Wii U features - like the Zelda remasters on Wii U - but that was a casualty of switching dev focus to both consoles sadly. I loved the Pro Controller with Zelda too :)

...and the Wii U. Lovely console! Mine sits next to the PS4 and still gets used now and again largely as a handheld.
