Best games podcasts - your votes/clicks needed!

Post by ratsoalbion » November 23rd, 2018, 7:14 pm

Hello all.

Nice surprise this afternoon as we find ourselves among a cavalcade of leading lights in this Red Bull list:

https://www.redbull.com/gb-en/best-vide ... fJOqnPw1ag

Cane and Rinse community, mobilise: Give us a vote click (from as many devices as you have handy) to see us do as well as we can:

No awards or prizes we don't think, just some great publicity.

I've never even drunk a Red Bull.

Many thanks!

That redhead from What’s Good Games is tick, but I do have question marks over her Eurogamer Pub Quiz credentials - so I know where my vote is going.

Pretty impressive achievement mind, that list has some big, big hitters in it.

Congratulations guys and gals - deserved.

I prefer Cane and Rinse because, amongst other things, it sounds like radio, and I mean that as a compliment. I remember a forum post where Leon said (and this isn't a direct quote) that they wouldn't open the doors to just anybody because not everyone has the correct pitch and delivery. That's so true.

I won't name names, and this isn't meant as a cheap swipe, but there are certain hosts, of big name podcasts, that just sound horrible over a microphone. I enjoy all of the Cane and Rinse hosts and contributors. There's a good range of styles and accents, but all speaking clearly and ensuring that they're being heard, unlike the mumblecore you get elsewhere. Leon, in particular, has it absolutely locked down. Ditto Ryan over on Sound of Play. It's a top quality production and the effort and skill on display isn't being rewarded nearly enough by the listeners.

I'll climb down off my soap box now, but it just pisses me off how much financial support that other, mediocre, podcasts get for simply pressing record on two hours of wank talk.

I've tried to get in to other games podcasts over the years, but there's always something that puts me off - whether it's the flow, the humour or even something as shallow as someone's voice, but in almost ten years of listening to podcasts only C&R and TCGS have stuck. There have been other good ones - I loved The Rotating Platform with Matthew Castle et al, but that's long dead. Final Games with Liam Edwards is often great, but highly dependent on the guest I find.

You've got my vote. And yeah, echoing the positive thoughts. Cane and Rinse does sound like radio - a nice quiet confidence in talking about games with reverence they deserve.
