Mario Kart Time Trials!
Mario Kart Time Trials!
Let's ramp up excitement for Mario Kart 8 by playing some Super Mario Kart (60hz) on the Wii U and posting to Miiverse!
I realise it's a small pool of players but here goes... my first attempt in years to play it.

I'll give this a shot, though I'm better at almost every other MK than I am at the original!
Re: Super Mario Kart time trials!
Christ, this makes me want to buy a Wii U. I sent a photo into mean machines back in the day with my Bowser Castle 2 (maybe 3) time. Love to see a quick rinse Dez

Re: Super Mario Kart time trials!
Ok I just got 1'13"45 for my first attempt. Best lap 14"19.
Re: Super Mario Kart time trials!
Forgot how tight the handling is but yet, when you hop, it's extremely loose. There's definitely a weird trick to it which i've completely forgotten but ultimately you need it for when you hit Rainbow Road!
Re: Super Mario Kart time trials!
Ok, quick question - the definitive Mario Kart game? I think it's the original DS version.

Re: Super Mario Kart time trials!
A question always guaranteed to provoke disagreement, this! I'm not sure there is a definitive version, they all have significant pros and cons to my mind. MK64 was the one I played the most, followed by Double Dash!! and Wii, but I've played a load of all of them. I do like the handheld ones as well, Super Circuit, DS and 7

They all have strengths and weaknesses and I go back to various versions for their specific reasons.
Apart from Double Dash.

But you've got to admit Mario Kart 64 is pretty amazing!dezm0nd wrote:They all have strengths and weaknesses and I go back to various versions for their specific reasons.

A lot of it comes down to when and how you played the games, I played hundreds of hours of Mario Kart 64 with my brothers when I was younger so I don't think any new or old game can replace those memories of me winning 80% of the races but the DS one is pretty darn good.
On a side I've always been awful at Super Mario Kart.
Re: Super Mario Kart time trials!
I have fond memories of MK64 for the obvious reason of it being my favourite console of all time. The career mode was ropey but the split screen multiplayer was great fun even if it didn't have bots to populate the race!
SMK is a different beast all together and probably handles the way it does due to Mode 7. The DS game was superb, offering a good deal of content on both sides of the fence.

Re: Super Mario Kart time trials!
I might have to dust off my snes again!
Remember that in the snes mario kart that the different people actually have different stats.
If you're going for speed, you need to be bowser or DK jr. and really learn to take your corners well!
I remember spending a whole summer trying to crack the 150cc cup and the only way you can do it is with the heavy characters and a full pocket of coins.

Re: Super Mario Kart time trials!
Pretty sure I completed back in the day with some of the lighter characters but it sure ain't easy.
But yeah. for time trialling I should get used to playing a heavier character again - I set all my best times in Wave Race 64 with big Dave Mariner whose handling was rough but his top end speed was devastating!

Re: Super Mario Kart time trials!
We never used the heavies! We were strictly a Koopa & Toad household back in the day.
