Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Does anyone know if you still need Plus to play PS Now games online? I think with Gamepass you can play those games online without a Gold subscription, is that right? Wondered if it was the same with PS Now. So on Game Pass you still need a Gold subscription to play online. 'Game Pass Ultimate' inc...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

This is broadly good news that Sony are moving to make PS Now more affordable and include bigger marquee titles , but I don't think I'll be signing up until I see how the service pans out over time. The included games number is high, but a huge number of those are stream-only PS3 titles, and while I...

Re: The Shenmue trilogy

Absolutely. The games are full of design choices and gameplay mechanics that in this day and age just don't hold up, and I can completely see why someone coming to the games now would have a tough time accepting them. But of almost any game I've ever played, Shenmue has the ability to cast a weird s...

Re: The Shenmue trilogy

I expect it’s going to get some pretty rough reviews, but this really is a case of ‘those that want it, want it like that’. The rest of us are quite happy to never play any of them ever again... :) I'm definitely expecting review scores all over the place. As long as it's getting somewhere in the 7...

Re: The Shenmue trilogy

Really positive impressions on Shenmue 3 from Matt Robinson over at Eurogamer: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-09-30-shenmue-3-does-not-disappoint This is exactly what I am expecting and wanting - a time capsule love letter to fans that will be obtuse and archaic to everyone else. The game w...

Re: The Street Fighter thread

This is a must-watch for anyone who’s ever played Street Fighter 2 and felt like the CPU is cheating. Turns out it is! And not just a bit. Quite a lot!

Re: The Guardian's Top 50 games of the century

Only 28 for me!

Not a fan of the list actually. Solid bunch of games but a weird order for me, and some of the selections in multi-game series are odd. Picking the first Forza Horizon over 3 or 4? The original Guitar Hero?

Still, not my list! To each his own!

Re: Your Top 50 Games of All Time Lists

We need to have a three line whip of list submitters to get everyone to rank their lists 1-50 so that we can make the data even more robust and get a bigger sample size (me included!).

The punishment for non-compliance is expulsion from the C&R forum!

More Jose Otero please.
If memory serves he actually left to join Nintendo a while back...

Yep - he's at Nintendo Treehouse now!

Brilliant! Someone bestow the title of 'Official Cane & Rinse Statistician' on this man!

1992 getting a lot of love. I'm guessing that shows a lot of us may have been in peak childhood years around then, and that it was just a great year for games obviously!

Re: Your Top 50 Games of All Time Lists

I am absolutely loving the amount of work Chopper has put into this thread! Thank you! The insights are really fascinating! Was proud at first to be on the graph of being one of the people that has the most games no-one else does, but then I thought maybe that means I like a load of crap games ...

Like the breaking up of things into themed categories! Gives a bit of context!

Some interesting choices as well. Not sure what it says about you that you find Bioshock fun and comforting, but different strokes for different folks ;)

Re: Videogame News

Although very different, Yoku's Island Express combined pinball mechanics with a 2D metroidvania to produce something really quite excellent, so I'm up for more pinball-based genre mash-ups!

Who knows, maybe it'll become to next niche hipster sub-genre of choice!

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Well I moved continents, moved countries and got a PSVR for my birthday. I love it. Like I really, genuinely love it. Battlezone is a blast, I just finished Loading Human (okay) and I've been looking at importing some horror games from the UK that aren't released in NA for VR. Not sorry about the i...

Re: Games Completed 2019

3rd Sep - Outcast: Second Contact (XBO) Outcast is a game I've never played but remember being fascinated by back in 1999. I read all the previews and reviews I could, and picked up the box in game shops so many times and neeeeearly buying it. The promise of this open world adventure on what was be...

Re: The Street Fighter thread

I just didn't enjoy the game. I had a blast with some of the guys on here one evening, best time I had with it, but generally, I found SFV very disappointing. My SF4 style doesn't fit at all, and I've never enjoyed it enough to want to start from scratch. That's the honest truth. Same. My least fav...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Virtua Fighter 2 is OK How very dare you sir! VF2 is great, and a game I jump into pretty regularly. To be fair if you're coming to it fresh in 2019 it might be a bit different without the benefit of nostalgia goggles ;) I think Virtual On is well cool! Takes a bit of learning though, and is better...
