Re: Shmups

I played some more Fast Striker on Vita too which has a great trance soundtrack. It’s old in feel, a Dreamcast / Neo Geo port (albeit posthumous for those consoles) and lacking in glitz & glamour but it’s got something. Has anyone else played it?

Re: Shmups

Aye they’re not massively into shmups in the group but a couple of them are credentialed ahead of me I reckon. We’ve had the likes of Soldier Blade, Super R Type etc and I’ve never came close to their scores. Considering EDF felt absolute nails at first I’m pleasantly surprised. I haven’t played Dea...

FullBlast - new assessment Played this again today with the boy watching me and whooping & cheering (I don’t usually get away with that) using clippa’s farm machinery which makes a huge difference. It is very easy. It is a very easy platinum (I got it after 5 levels lol) and it’s bland, same environ...

Re: Shmups

Yeah, this is wank. It feels like some kid knocked it up while watching Netflix. Dull as fuck. Uninspiring enemies. Empty backdrops. It feels so budget it hurts. It makes Overdriven feel like Crimzon Clover. Unsatisfying and I get why Ksub references Sky Forces now too. Even at £1.69 it’s a waste o...

Re: Shmups

Been playing Earth Defence Force on the SNES, courtesy of Nintendo Online. Neko Navy 1cc mateyboy chose it as the retro game challenge this week. Old school shmup, graphically pretty bland but somehow reminds me a little of Rolling Gunner, not sure why. It's gnarly at first, takes a bit of getting ...

Re: Shmups

Yeah, sounds crazy doesn't it. unless you have some kind of mad controller adaptor, or wireless controller... The one thing phones have going for them is easy vertical displays I guess. Not for me. But then I just don't like gaming on my phone period.

Re: Shmups

Good news for all the iOS shmup players among us (are there any  )

Good to see they're active at least. Maybe they'll dive on the Switch properly someday...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Yeah I don't think that's a bad thing really. There are some serious heavy hitters in the initial list, with this Nintendo Online has pretty much surpassed PS Plus for me free games wise for sure, and it's less than half the price. For how long, who knows. To get the odd SNES game from this point wo...

Re: Video Game Magazine Interview

I've got a ludicrous amount of issues of Retro Gamer, a mate of mine subscribes and gives me it when he's finished reading it on the shitter. Can't bring myself to throw them away. I must have hundreds. Great magazine, glad it's still going.

Re: Shmups

Thanks guys. Sounds like I shouldn't bother. "euroshmup" and "extraordinarily limp" are quite damning. All the same: https://i.ibb.co/znKwCq7/10-B02483-89-F9-4-D6-B-9-B36-24-BA9-ADAD2-BD.jpg :D Something piss easy I can complete in a short period of time without getting stressed and maybe even a pla...

Re: Video Game Magazine Interview

This is a great article. I loved the heyday of gaming magazines. One of my favourites was GB Action, focusing on Game Boy. I got a batch of them off eBay a while back and enjoy a little read now and again.

Re: Shmups

Sweet. I look forward to your thoughts.

@clipps when you say it's relaxing do you mean it's easy? (a plus point for me :D) - 10 hours sounds pretty good for a little shmup value wise.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Super Mario 64 Going back to this for this week's Retro Game Challenge, playing on my Shield Portable when I can steal a few minutes of time. It's a lot of fun, and quite addictive. It does make you realise how far cameras and 3D games have come since this came out, but the fact it's even playable ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Ah, I'm with you there. For me, I found progressing away from Colony 9 difficult because I no longer heard the music for the area when roaming around elsewhere. One could say the music is too good for the game itself!
