Re: Your Top 50 Games of All Time Lists

That's really interesting, and I totally get your point about context. It was the first I played and I found it largely impenetrable but fascinating for about ten hours before picking up DS2. That's the one which really clicked and which I fell in love with, then Dark Souls 1 followed and my entire...

Re: Your Top 50 Games of All Time Lists

Yeah, to be completely honest, I don't actually care for Demon's Souls all that much. It was the last of the series that I came to, and there are some frustrating elements that feel like a step backwards to someone more accustomed to the latter Souls games formula. That's deeeefinitely not to say it...

Re: Sound of Play: 204

The piece playing over your intro was from Yoshi's Woolly World, and I'm pretty sure there was another track from it in the mix. Also Ori and the Blind Forest (For real this time), the Mario track was most likely Mario Maker, and was that Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A...

Re: Sound of Play: 204

That list is looking good! Just to make a few corrections -- not the correct year for Super Hexagon. There were, indeed, two Animal Crossing games in 2015. Phoenix Wright appeared in a great game in 2015, but it's not Marvel or Smash. No Simon the Sorcerer in this mix, but there is another similar r...

Re: Sound of Play: 198

After reviewing the soundtrack, I didn't really find any of the tracks in the Twisted Metal 2 soundtrack to be that memorable, so it probably doesn't immensely stick out.

Re: Sound of Play: 198

Solid list a couple of "right series, wrong entry" games in there, but overall -- you're hitting the nail on the head.

Sorry about the link. I'll fix it.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (Spoiler Thread)

The "Loki got away" moment was erased from the main timeline, right?

Also, I thought it was a funny nod back to the earlier films when Cap swore, but I thought it would have been better if he just swore once instead of twice. It felt weird that it was a two-time thing.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (Spoiler Thread)

I just saw it, and I admit that things haven't had time to really settle in just yet, but there are a few points of confusion that I had during the movie: The limiting factor in the "we only have one chance" time heist was that Pym particles are an extremely finite resource. But couldn't they just p...

Re: Sound of Play: 192

There is an Ori-sounding song from FRU (my GOTY for 2016), but unfortunately, I can't find videos of it online to point to for reference. I had to record my own audio from the game itself.

Re: Sound of Play: 192

I don't believe there is any Ori in there, but if you can point to a timecode, I can fish up what it is. Also, yes, I'll double-down on what Leon said about release years. I count a game's release year as the year that it debuted, regardless of the region or system. Even if our audiences may not hav...

Certainly not as good of a theme song as Mirror's Edge 1's.

Re: Sound of Play: 192

Nice work, folks. Remember -- music behind the vocal clips is not always from the same game that the vocals come from, so even if you identify one portion, it may not be telling the whole story ;)

Y'all are even getting some of the really tricky ones.

Again, the video (with the answers) will be posted one week from today. YMMV, depending on how strict the copyright bots are in your country.

Re: Dark Souls III - Cane and Rinse 361

Gotta say -- I side with Jacob 100% in the DS3 debate. I like all of the references to past Dark Souls stuff in this game precisely because it doesn't make sense. To me, Dark Souls is less of a world being built than a story being told. Like myth, details warp and shift in the telling. Dark Souls 3'...

Naturally, the time codes pasted above do not correlate with the podcast, as that has the spoken intro. If you wish to match it with just the music, you can use the standalone download link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1pVl8b ... qGy1g9OwdZ
