Re: Games Completed 2020
Invisible War is a good game, it’s only crime is not being as good as the first one, which was too much for some.

Re: The Street Fighter thread
The upgrade to the championship edition is on sale, so I finally decided to add Kage and the rest of season 4.
And costumes. So many costumes.

Re: The Street Fighter thread
It’s the timescale on this for me that’s most eyebrow raising. This is one character a quarter for over a year. That tells you a lot about where Capcom are with their fighting game division. There haven’t been any new fighting games announced for the next round of consoles from anyone, and I think p...

Re: The Street Fighter thread
Oh hey, it’s a new season for SFV running from now until the end of next year.

I’d be willing to bet there’s a ps5 version planned as well.

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread
I think it’s not so much that Sony have never done it before that is the issue, it’s that the xbox series x *does* work with all the XBO pads. Admittedly the only new function on the XSX pad over the XBO one is a dedicated share button. (Also, I’m kind annoyed that my PS4 fight stick will need yet *...

Rocket league dialled back the lootboxes months ago, they’ve been firmly on the battlepass model for a while.

I think we talked about this up thread, but it seems that we might be at tipping point now... lots more people seeing the issue in the last couple of weeks.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Some of that is likely cultural. Japanese companies in general do not talk about their internal issues in public. It’s why shareholder meetings for them are so weird, they’re not used to that kind of questioning. (To this day neither Square or Nintendo will talk on the record about what happened aro...

Re: Microsoft Xbox news and discussion thread
The most striking thing for me was how grimdark a lot of it was. There’s great stuff in there, but so *much* overlap of theme and general aesthetic vibe. The sony presentation mixed it up a lot more I felt, there was a lot less of the ‘dudes with guns’ in their one. Also, very little gameplay was sh...

Re: Microsoft Xbox news and discussion thread
Forza development I suspect has been hit really hard by Covid. Can’t get out there to scan the vehicles and tracks, get the audio etc... Fable I suspect is further along than what they showed, but that’s one I have a feeling they’re going to sit on a little until after the console launch, it’s not a...

Re: Microsoft Xbox news and discussion thread
Well that was fairly underwhelming. All very grimdark and pre-rendered for the most part.
Still, the commitment to gamepass is welcome, everything in that showcase is apparently going to be on it so I won’t be short of stuff to play.
Just would’ve liked a little more... whimsy.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima
I gave up on RDR2 after a couple of days, it demands way too much of me with its finicky controls and extremely wonky combat.

Re: Video game tie-in media
Side note: games that eschew plot in favour of just “lore”. A lot of people love how the Souls games do this, but an equal number hate how Overwatch does it. Apex Legends is riding that line, they’ve gone for something much more narrative over lore in the most recent season and it... kinda works? Th...

Re: Video game tie-in media
I think that’s where it gets difficult, that continuum from: ‘hey, here’s a thing from the books that people who read them will think is cool’, as in Mass Effect (The assassin Kai Leng in me3 appears first in the books, but doesn’t interact with any of the *game* characters there so it’s fine for yo...
