Re: All things Grand Theft Auto

Maybe I should rephrase that. It isn't what they made it out to be in the trailers, and as a result it isn't what I wanted to play.

Re: Book Recommendations

The movie plays down a lot of the more 'alternate future' aspects of the original novel. A little more world building that explains how the situation has come to pass that the movie didn't really have the running time to go into. I think overall I prefer the book too, even though the movie is very g...

Re: Headphones

At home for gaming and movies I have a pair of open back ones from Bose. Took me a while to find a pair that is comfy to wear at the same time as my glasses. These are the ones , but the model is discontinued now. I can recommend taking your own mp3 player into the store, as a lot of places have hea...

Re: All things Grand Theft Auto

Is it PS3 people suffering lost characters? Or 360 people too? Everyone I know who seems to be getting the issues is on PS3.

I'll tell you one thing: right now you really aren't missing much. It's very underwhelming.

Re: All things Grand Theft Auto

I trust the saving mechanisms on the 360 about as far as I can throw them (after a harrowing time playing Star Ocean 4, which would just randomly write out corrupt saves, meaning I ended up saving every time to two different devices...) I finish every play session by doing a save in a safe house. Wi...

Kotaku are claiming that Nintendo have sent their boys round, and that said shops are going to find themselves in fairly deep doodoo.

trying to jump on the bandwagon of current "social" gaming trends. I'm willing to bet that at least 75% of games in development for next gen are taking this approach. Many publishers are of the opinion that the only way to make enough money to offset the sky high dev costs of these next c...

Re: All things Grand Theft Auto

Regarding the save corruption, are people really playing with only the autosave? Never actually doing saves at the safe house? First rule of console gaming: if it lets you make separate save games, do so. Second rule of console gaming: if it lets you make more than one separate save, do as many as i...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

As good as the Akira movie is, it's never going to get everything from the manga in. The manga is, what, 6 telephone book sized volumes? Something like that.

There's people saying that when it dies it's taking their single player saves with it.

Probably want to finish that before diving into multi...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Lain is a little like Akira in that you probably need to see it a couple of times before it all makes sense. It is perhaps a little too clever for its own good at times, but I forgive it that for just how creepy some moments of it are.

Re: Fantasy Football League

The game rules on this one are such that if you're not in and meddling with your team every week you'll fall away really rapidly. You really can't afford to not have a full 11 out every week, and the points system they use rewards those who keep 'form' players in their squad and aren't afraid to bin...

Should be there this evening. I doubt I'll recognise any of you (except Josh, having screwed him over at Munchkin this past GPlex when I didn't mean to... hehe) so look out for the chap in glasses with the 'Bioshock Infinite x Portal' t-shirt on.

Re: All things Grand Theft Auto

When you fail a mission you get a 'retry or quit' option. And if you fail it a lot of times in a row, it offers to let you skip it.

So it's weird that they didn't give you that same option on success.

Re: PlayStation Plus (and the PS Store in general)

SFxT in PS+ is on the Vita isn't it? Not the PS3 verison... I don't know if they've patched the Vita version to match the current console one. They made a LOT of balance changes, mainly to make the rounds play faster and generate less timeouts. It's a decent game now, much better balanced than it wa...

Re: Gaming Guilty Pleasures

I never really feel guilty about the things I enjoy, but I guess I'd have to say the Koei 'Warriors' games. Dynasty Warriors 8 isn't *quite* as good as 7 was, and Warriors Orochi 3 is better than them both (but only if you've actually read 'Three Kingdoms' or half the jokes in Orochi 3 will make no ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I wanted to like Lollipop Chainsaw because when the humour was on target it was really really good.

But every other word thrown at the main character was 'bitch' or 'whore' or worse, and it ground me down after a couple of hours and I never went back to it.
