Re: Electric razors / beard trimmers

The Phillips one-blade is good if you’re aiming for a manly stubble look, it’s not the best for a clean shave (and not designed for that).

Re: Videogame News

I’m just trying to damp down your expectations based on what I’ve been hearing. Last thing we need is another Nintendo Megaton! (One analyst i follow joked that knowing Famitsu it could easily just be SEGA renaming a game)

Re: Videogame News

This is coming from a famitsu piece that said ‘SEGA has some big news’.

Analysts I know say it has nothing to do with MS though so...

It launched on Apple Arcade a while back, so it’s not that new to fans of the series I guess.

Re: What's Out This Week?

My step mum had the DS version of it and played it a *lot*. It’s not really targeted at gamers like us.

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

The 2019 released Apollo 11 documentary is on Netflix now. It’s fantastic, there’s no narration, interviews or modern recreations. The entire thing is made up of footage and audio recordings from the time (a lot of which haven’t been made public before). It’s very chill, and quite unlike any other d...

Re: Retro gaming

Localisation is something I find to be a fascinating topic (and not just cause I tend to end up in charge of it on the games I work on these days). Mentioned it a few times, but the articles on legendsoflocalization.com are well worth your time. There were some weird policies in the early 32 bit day...

Re: Retro gaming

Sony Europe had a policy where you couldn’t publish on the platform in Europe if you didn’t provide minimum French and German alongside the English IIRC. Something like that anyway. Very few Japanese developers had the resources to do anything other than (a usually quite weak) English translation, s...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

So I’ve been playing Nier Automata, got up to the points just past the boss at the fairground and... I think I’m done. I can see why people like it, but I just... don’t. I don’t like the aesthetic, but mainly it’s that I really dislike the ‘if you’re die you have to find your corpse or be punished’ ...

Re: What's Out This Week?

On the xbox one at least for Mafia 3 all it does is make all the existing DLC free.

It’s not clear yet whether owning the 360 version of Mafia 2 gets you free access to the XBO ‘remastered’ version, or just a discount.

Re: Comfort Gaming

I’ve literally had no energy to do anything other than play Overwatch and Apex Legends so far this month.

I’m about halfway through a bunch of other story driven games, but I just don’t want to go there at the moment. They’re more effort than I want to put in.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I love the art and audio in vagrant story, as a last generation ps1 title it really is pretty. But I agree, it’s not the most fun to play. As I said on Twitter, a good one to go to after FFT is the first Vandal Hearts. It’s a less complex game for sure, but it has its own quirks and charm that I sti...

But yeah, mutual respect would be nice.
When you find a way to discuss things without talking down at us for not agreeing, then you’ll earn some mutual respect.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima

I started Nier Automata the other day, and while I can clearly see the craft in it, it hates me and wants me to hate it because I don’t have the patience in my life anymore to ‘git gud’. I'm surprised. Difficulty is subjective and all that but I really didn't find Nier: A to be an especially challe...

Re: Ghost of Tsushima

Sorry about being so flippant there, but it kinda bugs me when people shit on ‘modern game design’ when it’s a style of game design I actually really like precisely *because* it doesn’t take pleasure in trying to break me when all I’m wanting to do is relax with a videogame. I started Nier Automata ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Wild Guns Reloaded is great, a really good update of the original that adds 4 player co-op and a whole bunch of new levels. (I have a physical copy of the US release because for some reason it’s only available digitally in Europe)

The original is of course great too.

It looks like these aren’t necessarily launching as a bundle. The remaster of 2 appears to be imminent, with the full remake of 1 being later in the year.

This looks far more appealing to me than Sekiro did.

Different people like different kinds of game, who knew?
