Re: Sound of Play: 240 - The Assassin's Creed special

Something a little more out there... this is the main theme from the mobile game Rebellion. It’s set after the movie, and follows the characters from that (yes, the movie is canon, were you not paying attention in AC Origins present day section?) I don’t *think* this is actually lifted from one of t...

Re: Sound of Play: 240 - The Assassin's Creed special

I assume Ezio’s Family will be in there, it’s effectively became the series de facto theme tune, with versions of it being in almost all of the games. It’s a little like the Imperial March, which everyone immediately associates with Star Wars despite it not being in part 1 at all. If you’re only goi...

Re: Retro gaming

Data East died a while back, and their IP was scattered to the winds, these guys apparently own Karnov now:

Re: What's Out This Week?

It was episodic on the PC, and they were spread over *years* so it’s not tended to stay in the conversation.

Re: Games Completed 2020

Jan 10th - Spider-Man (PS4) Jan 26th - Children of Morta (XBO) Lovely little Diablo style game with a great and expressive art style and fun progression mechanic. Bit of a difficulty jump early on, the first couple of bosses seemed way harder than the rest to me, but after that it was pretty solid....

Re: Comic Book Chatter

I will say, once you finish Sandman for a second or third time, I’d recommend reading ‘Sandman: overture’. It’s an interesting coda / prologue piece that ties together some loose ends in a really satisfying way. It was written a long time after the original series so Neil is clearly not in the same ...

Re: Retro gaming

I bought the special edition of Tactics ogre at launch...I don’t think I’ve ever even played it...

That’ll be something to fix this year as well.

Re: Retro gaming

Yeah. It’s pretty legendary for that. First time I played through the original PS1 game I had a second save from a couple of days before so I didn’t lose too much progress going back to that and grinding some levels before retrying the boss, but a lot of people didn’t use more than one save slot and...

Re: Retro gaming

Been watching the rather silly FFTBattleground twitch channel a bit lately (you bet fake coins on the outcome of battles between ai controlled teams) and decided its maybe about time I finally got around to playing all the way through the PSP version of Final Fantasy Tactics. I’d played it a bit bef...

Is anyone ashamed of their words and deeds yet?

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I mean, for years my main relaxation thing was to thrash my way through random Dynasty Warriors games. (These days I’m more likely to be watching speedruns on twitch and talking about random retro game stuff in the chat)

Re: Microsoft Xbox news and discussion thread

A Plague Tale and Indivisible are both coming to gamepass soon. Both excellent games (even though I’ve already bought one of them. Some you win, some you lose)

For me it’s not so much what Kojima is trying to say, but that he’s not very good at saying it.

Re: Games Completed 2020

So uh, how do you guys define "completed"? Generally for this thread we say ‘it’s your list, so your rules’. So for most games I consider finishing the story and hitting the end credits completed, unless there’s a lot of post game content. Some people take it as getting all the xbox achievements. O...

Re: Mental Health

The hurdle I had to get over was that speaking to my GP about anxiety issues wasn’t wasting his time that he could be spending helping someone *actually* sick. Growing up I had an aunt who had mental health issues, and the wider family tended to mock her about it behind her back all the time, and I ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Children of Morta on gamepass has definitely got my intrigued Clippa is right in that the cool down it introduces eventually to *force* you to use the other characters is a bit of a pain, but it’s not been a game breaker for me yet. Hopefully one of the last two characters I have to unlock will be ...

Re: Retro gaming

Yeah, machines that used big chip boards in their cartridges were often more than just storage for the games code and data. Some are really obviously carrying extra stuff, like Starfox on Snes and Virtua Racing on Megadrive. But plenty of other carts are doing things like maybe adding some extra mem...

Re: Retro gaming

All the cart based consoles did it to an extent, but it was a necessity on the nes. If you can find the book ‘I Am Error’, it goes into more detail about its hardware design than you probably ever need (including the sad fact that the added region lockout on the NES meant losing the audio pass throu...
