Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I don't have one of those, but I do have one of those Satisfye grips. I was a little skeptical at first, but it really does make holding and playing the switch so much more comfortable, even the little plastic nubs that go on the thumbsticks is a big improvement.

Re: Well Twitter has been interesting today hasn't it.

It just grinds my gears when people even refer to it as 'politics'. It's not. I don't think I've ever heard anything I'd really consider truly 'political' even discussed on C&R, ever.

The criticisms all boil down to pathetic, reactionary culture war sniping as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Well Twitter has been interesting today hasn't it.

I’ve been listening to the pod for years because of the balance you bring to the games you review, and the lack of ‘dude-bro’ culture that turns me off so many other gaming sites. Agreed, It's a bit of a generalisation (and things have changed a lot in recent years) but videogame media has tended t...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Dude, change the control settings in the menu for the Poltaghust whilst in use. There’s two settings, the non-default setting is similar to the original GameCube/3DS style and is what I use - it’s miles better. Also in that setting your torch is mapped to R and the plunger L (as well as the face bu...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Hmm, as someone who bounced off Luigi's Mansion 2 but always intended to go back, I'm interested... Maybe I could get this for Christmas if you can wait that long!! How does it compare to 2? I'm in the same boat - I liked the overall gameplay of 2, but I really didn't get on with the mission based ...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

One of the biggest issues I have with Snyder's Watchmen is the take on violence. In the book, it's not meant to be gratuitous, but a to show us how brutal and unstable some of these people are and what comic book "action would look like in the world if happened upon real people. In the movie, it's ...

Re: 394: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

I've never been one for level creation games - I don't have the will or the patience for games like Minecraft or even Mario Maker, but I found the vehicle creation element of this game really fun. The best example I can think of is a level in the game where the mission was to protect a statue from a...

Nice! I tend to stagger my save state slots in traditional Final Fantasy fashion for this very reason.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

However, all the info, all the sign posts are there - you’ve just got to give it full thought all of the time. Which in modern times might be a little tricky to stomach. Yeah - it does have that old school Zelda thing of expecting tips to be shared on the playground etc. not loving the performance....

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

It seems to me like some of the puzzles fit the mold of the more old school trial and error type design - eg it would simply never occur to me to use magic powder to ignite a lantern ... Perhaps I missed a hint, perhaps that would be obvious to other people, but it just doesn't seem like a logical s...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Playing Links remakening and I'm a bit stuck. I've done 2 dungeons and I'm onto my next bit but I just need a clue better than what that idiot on the telephone is giving me. I'm more than happy to explore the island but my gaming time is scarce and wouldn't mind a gentle nudge. edit: sussed it. Tur...

Re: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

Out of curiosity - the idea of the Skeksis and the Mystics
Spoiler: show
being one and the same (and each one having an opposite/counterpart)
- is that an invention of the Netflix series, or is that something from the movie? (as I say, I can remember almost nothing about the movie).

Re: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance

If it helps I can barely remember anything about the film, haven't seen it in 20ish years, maybe more, and 6 episodes in I am utterly in love with this series. It was recommended to me by a friend on the strength of the visuals, and while it does indeed look superb (and like nothing else around at t...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Has anyone on here watched The Wire? I'm assuming so. We're struggling for a series we both want to watch after finishing GoT. My suggestions, American Gods, The Boys, Mad Men and Castle Rock all got shot down. Thinking of The Wire. We both enjoy good British crime drama, I'm just worried my partne...

Re: 394: Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

I have a lot of fond memories of Nuts & Bolts, which I consider to be a hidden, flawed gem of the XBox 360 library, and a game that was (somewhat) unfairly maligned for what it wasn’t , rather than appreciated for what it was. When the game is at its best - with its freeform level design that encour...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I'm still holding out hope for a HD remake of the original Star Fox. Keep the same flat-shaded, low poly look and everything, just tart it up a bit. It would look so cool running in a decent frame rate in widescreen.

Re: Need for Speed: Heat and the Conversation Around Racing Games

There's one kind of racing game I want, and that's one where I can drive shitty consumer cars and modify them to be less shitty. Like imagine a Kia Sedona racing with a Ford Tempo and a Pontiac Aztec. And you can give it a Hemi V8. Or raise it like a monster truck. And they all work accurate to the...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

The volume and selection of the SNES games is better than I could have possibly hoped. Yoshi's Island! Mario World! Super Metroid! Link to the Past! Pilotwings! I'm thrilled, honestly. Wonder if they'll be doing anything unexpected like they did with the NES games (the special version of Zelda etc)?...

Re: Disney's Aladdin

Just announced: Aladdin is getting a rerelease/remaster, in a double pack with The Lion King. Looks like it includes various versions of both games (though they are all Virgin Interactive, not Capcom so no SNES Aladdin :( ). http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/08/aladdin_and_the_lion_king_are_repo...
