Re: Our next podcast recording (17.12.23) - 600: Demon's Souls (2020)

I just recently got a PS5, and shortly thereafter got Demon's Soul's for my birthday. I never had a PS3, so this is my first go with this particular Soulsborne game. Maybe it is that I am coming at it with a few others already under my belt, and I'm only a few bosses in, but this feels like the frie...

Re: Our next podcast recording (9.12.23) - 599: Into the Breach

I've only played 5 or so games of Into the Breach, but it is an all time favorite, not for games to play, but games I am inspired by while working on tabletop game designs. I love the simplicity and compactness of it, and would be thrilled to make something half as good as it someday.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Second, The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5. Not sure what the spoiler policy here is on a game that's almost three years old now, so I'll have to spoiler mark most of my thoughts, because, frankly, I don't know how I can talk about my feelings thus far without getting into entire game spoilers. So I'm ab...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I picked up Citizen Sleeper last year when it launched, and played for about an hour then. I could tell I was gonna love it, but was too occupied with other life and work stuff to fully enjoy it. Just started it up again tonight and am loving it. The art and sound art top notch, and there is just th...

Re: Our next podcast recording (4.3.23) - 559: Guacamelee!

I think Seansthomas makes a good comparison between Guacamelee and Celeste's movement chaining. I've tried going back to Guacamelee a few times over the years after loving my initial time with it on the Vita, but always bounced off an hour or two in. I think it's that I generally don't care for the ...

Re: Comic Book Chatter

I think the only Moore I've read is Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and The Killing Joke. I enjoyed Watchmen and V a lot, though have lost interest when going back to re-read V. The Killing Joke I thought was solid, but I think it was too hyped up for me. I'd like to read his Swamp Thing at some point. Le...

Re: Switch Recommendations

If you like crunchy arcade shooters, Hell is Other Demons is a really fun time. Some of the most satisfying single-screen gameplay I've played. OVERWHELM is a really cool action-horror arcade-y shooter that nails an Aliens-like atmosphere really well, and is fantastic solo and in co-op. Lonely Mount...

Re: Our next podcast recording (11.2.23) - 556: Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I've only ever played Animal Crossing on the Gamecube, and while I enjoyed it quite a bit, I never felt the urge to jump into another one. I did love all of the stories people shared for the first few months of lockdown of their adventures on their islands. A true bright spot in the world among a wh...

Mario Picross is great! I just checked and I have 42 hours in it. It was my game for a while to decompress and listen to podcasts to. Looks like I left it at the start of level 10 for Mario and level 9 for Wario. Might have to jump back in sometime soon and see if I can finish it off. I put a lot of...

Re: Comic Book Chatter

Past month or so I've been catching up on bits of my unread comic stacks. Some of my favorites: Orcs / Orcs: The Curse by Christine Larsen. A really fun fantasy adventure, great characters and art, the storytelling is super engaging, and feels like a great arc of adventure time, or similar cartoons ...

Re: Our next podcast recording (12.11.2022) - 545: Nintendo Land

The Mario Chase, Luigi's mansion, and Animal Crossing games (which we referred to as "getting plump") have gotten so much play throughout the years since the Wii U's release. Nintendo Land is pretty much the sole reason I still have my Wii U. One of the best all time local multiplayer game...

Re: Our next podcast recording (19.6.22) - 524: Pyre

Supergiant's usual adjustable difficulty pairs so well with Pyre's sports league tragedy. There were opponents I felt so strongly equally deserved their liberation, even if the Nightwing's ultimate goal was pure, that I would set the difficulty for some rites to an insurmountable challenge. If I cou...

I got Control this past Christmas, and had avoided most things about it, aside from the seemingly universal praise, and general knowledge of the premise. And it is a great premise! ...but that is where it stopped being great. I am, of course, being reductive. There are a lot of great moments. Intere...

I've only played a few Jeff Minter games, as far as I know. I remember having an Atari collection on CD when I was little, and Tempest was one of my favorites on it. I don't know that I understood it very well, but the perspective, style, and level design transfixed me. Years later (quite possibly v...

Re: Our next podcast recording (15.1.22): The Traveller's Tales/TT Games LEGO series

Lego Star Wars 1 & 2 have a permanent place in my heart among my all time favorites. The wide cast of characters, the humor, the collectibles. All great! I rented the first game at launch, and was delighted by it as a 9 year old who loved both Lego and Star Wars more than most other things. I've...

Loved the discussion in this issue. I may try to write up something more of my feelings on what this game represents for me later, but the team absolutely knocked it out of the park. Props to each for finishing the game, I was only able to get a couple hours in before giving up back in the day.

Howdy all, just thought I'd promote an email newsletter I've started recently. It is a way for me to share short stories that I write. So far there have been 2 stories (and I can send out previous emails to new subscribers, so you won't miss out), each have been under 600 words, and they are general...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I'm crossing fingers for a Hotline Miami compilation and Metal Wolf Chaos. I wouldn't say no to Hotline Miami again, but I've played them to death, and Katana Zero has done a lot to fill that space. I'd love to see Luftrausers brought to Switch. That's one of the few reasons my Vita still gets char...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

God I love this forum, everybody being all respectful and shit. I'll throw my 2 cents into the 8-bit ring, as it were. I never had a NES, and would have been some negative years old when the system was at peak popularity, I think. That being the case, my experience of NES titles has largely come fro...
