Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I suspect this is real. Most of these other rumours have turned out to be right or close to the truth. I can also see, as a parent whose kids repeatedly drop the Switch and want it on 24/7, why a cheaper version to play Mario, Zelda, Minecraft etc on makes sense (and where the parental lock usage wo...

Re: 371: Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

Without a doubt a huge amount of this games appeal lies in its visuals. The world of Monkey Island 2 is gob-smackingly beautiful and showcases an incredible use of design, animation, colour and perspective to create rich and memorable environments and characters. Even at the time I remember marveli...

Re: 371: Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

When I start student talks to designers about how I fell into our industry, I often start with a picture of this game. Until I played Monkey Island 2, all the games I'd played were about high scores or scoring goals. But this game altered all of that. I couldn't die. It made me laugh. The soundtrack...

Re: 374: Furi

I'm trying to beat this in time for the podcast but am struggling to. Playing on Furi mode. At the Old Man fight and can consistently get to phase 3 or 4 but then I can't figure out the pattern. Maybe it's because I've played Dead cells, Dark Souls and Breath of the Wild in the past 6 months but aft...

Re: 370: Ape Escape

I remember being insanely excited for the launch of Ape Escape. Partly because all of the PlayStation magazines were saying it was a Mario beater, partly because I'd bought the original Dual Analog controller to play G-Police and hadn't had an excuse to use it since. I had only ever owned bargain ba...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Loved the discussion about differing ways to tackle puzzles in this game. The anecdote Michiel told around his friend trying to cross the river on the Great Plateau was exactly what I did on my second playthrough. But on my first, I read a book in the Old Man's hut, earned a Warm Doublet, cut down a...

Re: 367: DOOM (2016)

Doubt this is worth including in the show, but for anyone who bought it on Switch and hasn't played it since day one, well WELL worth another go.

It looks so much better since the most recent update, especially in handheld mode, and the motion aiming is great if, like me, you adore it in Splatoon 2.

Re: Games Completed 2019

20th February - Night in the woods I am so confused about what to make of this one? By the end of it, I had really grown to like the characters a great deal and some of the writing and art design of the town did a great job of capturing life in a small community as a 20 something. Playing guitar wi...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

.One thing that is really missing from the Switch library is an arcadey racing game in the style of Ridge Racer or Outrun: Coast to Coast. GRID looks OK, but not really what I'm after. I hear you. There are some futuristic ones like FAST Racing Neo and Grip but I'd love one of these too. Nearest I ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Up to speed. Lost me in the middle in that sea of 'anime boy stalks girl, girl battles generic monster to earn a skill tree upgrade, lots of people grunt whilst numbers appear on screen’s JRPG nonsense BUT either side of that was great. New Platinum game looks incredible. I’m all over Hellblade (tha...

Re: 367: DOOM (2016)

DOOM does an immense job at building on what the original game did so brilliantly whilst feeling like a robust, slick modern day title. The amazing heavy metal music is the star of the show but add in big weapons with swear words in their title, fiery demons, journeys to hell and gameplay that force...

Re: 362: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

I was incredibly excited about buying this on Switch the day it came out. I'd heard great things about The New Order and getting this game to even play on a Switch looked like such an incredible achievement, I wanted to support the developers. And the conversion that the team at Panic Button did was...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

You know what? I was a little harsh on New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe back there. I've been playing it on and off since release and have come to consider it as easily the best of the NSMB series and even possibly the best mainline 2d Mario game since World. Its not perfect by any means - it still ha...
