Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Zombies? In a video game? At least Days Gone went where no other game went before, right? ...I was biting my lip all day not to get all snarky about this and then you just had to swoop in with all the grace and subtlety of a flying mammoth, didn't you? EDIT: I was completely making it up, but...

Re: What's Out This Week?

Arrgh! I've had the follwing thought process about the PS4 release of FF12 for about 2 years... You could always simply buy every FF re-release you come across and never touch any of them afterwards. Works for me. I feel culturally enriched by having them sitting in my cupboard and lulling myself t...

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

I think this game is suffering from a severe identity crisis at its very core. It wants to be a proper action game, but the basic structure of a Souls-like is preventing it from achieving its full potential, especially in terms of the controls. There are solid reasons why so many old-school action g...

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III

There's a part in Iron King where you're going down a spiral staircase with an endlessly spawning enemy who constantly gives you curse and there's not a damn thing you can do about it! Later in the same DLC, you can find a piece of equipment that provides enough curse resistance to deal with this s...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've gone back to Sekiro . I like the game a lot, but it doesn't have the motivational quality I'm used to from FROM. The world-building is good, but not nearly as fascinating and engrossing as Bloodborne . The combat / boss fights are very enjoyable, but honestly, coming fresh off of DMC5, it can f...

Re: Shmups

R-Type Dimensions EX is an excellent game, although it might prove to be a bit too difficult on the later stages. Definitely worth playing, though. It also has a neat 2D/3D switching mechanic to alternate between the original and new graphical styles, if you're into that sort of thing.

People give me a hard time for rubbing pre-owned cases with some basic nail polish remover, meanwhile Nick is busting out the cotton buds and security screwdriver.

I admire the dedication. 8-)

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

It's meant to be gentle and relaxing, but it has 22 minute day cycles, which means it has 22 min night cycles where you can see absolutely nothing and you don't have the power to sleep through them at the start of the game. :x You know what might be pretty cool? If one of those open world survival ...

Re: Microsoft Xbox news and discussion thread

Ninja Gaiden 2 is now backwards compatible with Xbox One X, which apparently alleviates a lot of the frame rate and freezing issues.

Legit considering buying one of those just for that. Probably won't. But still...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Full-fledged backwards compatibility with PS1, PS2 and PS3 discs would be amazing and what I'm hoping for the most. I've always wanted a universal legacy system and since Microsoft has already been moving in that direction with their recent system updates, Sony might as well go the extra mile on tha...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

I just watched Vice in my local theater. Nobody else showed up and it was just me and the projectionist, which was nice. I don't think I've ever seen such a calculated and poignant character assassination, of a living person no less. Cuts like a knife but is also surprisingly funny at times. Perform...

Re: Games Completed 2019

Dangerous Driving (Platinum Trophy) This is a decent game that didn't fulfill its potential as much as I would have wanted it to. The core premise is solid, only let down by the flat and excessively linear tracks. Event variety is excellent and the handling of the various cars is very good overall....

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Not so much "whatcha been playing?" but "whatcha been buying?", but I just grabbed Vampyr for a very reasonable price based on the local word of mouth around here. Curious to dive into it at some point.
