Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

@Scrustle: I agree with the sentiment that the combat in MP2 sometimes feel like a chore. I don't know how far you are exactly, and I don't want to risk spoiling anything, so I'll just say that I hope you stick with it regardless. While MP2 is bogged down by its fair share of annoying elements, the ...

Re: "Gameplay"

Something else I forgot to mention is how often I see people claiming that a (usually older) game would automatically be better with more standardized controls and/or mechanics. I don't think it's that simple, because controls and mechanics only work if the game is designed around them. Case in poin...

Re: "Gameplay"

Oh yes, MGSV absolutely does have some great functional level design in a lot of places. Most of the major fortresses and buildings have very interesting layouts. But the empty space inbetween and the smaller enemy compounds feel like a waste of time to me. Which is why I called it a mixed bag. And ...

Re: "Gameplay"

If I may be allowed a slightly more provocative example to further illustrate my point: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/neosword41/1251746752653.jpg Notice how "Gameplay" is seemingly given the same importance as "Sound". And it's not just the verdict illustration either. I...

Re: "Gameplay"

Thanks for the kind words. I did put some effort into the OP. :) I don't mind the colloquial use of the word at all. But I see it pop up rather regularly even in a more critical and analytical context. And I think it is somewhat problematic when it is used to describe contradictory elements, like in...

"Gameplay"

This topic is meant to address a bit of a pet peeve of mine: The usage of the word "gameplay" in videogame analysis / reviews / general discussion. When video games are being talked about in some kind of critical way, the conversation is usually centered around the different facets of the ...

Re: Forum Changelog & Forum Suggestions

Of course I didn't mean to burden the editors any further. And if the consensus was indeed overwhelmingly negative, then I'll gladly sacrifice my earthly auditory desires on top of the altar of democracy. Speaking of editing, I think you guys do a great job of trimming the fat and maintaining a nice...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

I thought so. But I had to try, at least! :)

I actually think that Mercs 3D is the worst one by far, but I'm definitely looking forward to the RE series being covered and RE4 being revisited.

Re: Forum Changelog & Forum Suggestions

Thanks for the quick reply. My feedback was about the use of music on the show. Something I like about the older podcasts is the way that the selected tracks do a great job of punctuating the show and offering a nice break between different segments. The Metal Gear themed shows are a good example. D...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

Okay, there is another one I need to get off my chest. I'm a huge fan of the "Mercenaries" modes in the modern Resident Evil games and feel like they would make for a great topic choice. They have a bit of a cult following but most players dismiss them as just another unlockable when this ...

Re: Forum Changelog & Forum Suggestions

#1: I had a question and/or feedback about the podcast itself, but it seems like there is no dedicated thread for it. Wouldn't a sticky in the Videogame Discussion subforum make sense? Should I just post it here instead? #2: Are Three Words Reviews limited to twitter only or can they be posted in th...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

I feel like it's obvious but.... Resogun?

I think it would be a good fit. It's short, cheap, easily available and arcadey.

PS: And also, it's fantastic.

Was it the GOTY version with the DLC included? Because that was released much later. That price a bit steep, but the game is definitely worth playing!

God Hand is also part of that sale. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in the genre.

@mikeleddy: When you absolutely, positively, need to buy every game in the bundle? :D
