Re: Back in time...

Wow, you're planning on playing through the entire back catalogue, then? That's very ambitious!

I might be able to join in on certain games if and when circumstances allow, but I can't promise much more than that at this point. Volume 1 has a fair few gems I've been meaning to replay, though!

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I felt like playing something fun, simple, simian and uh... "life-affirming" so I went with a bit of Super Monkey Ball and Donkey Kong Country Returns this evening. SMB is as pure as it's ever been, one of gaming's most endearing displays of dedication towards a specific premise. All you need is the...

Re: Let's rank Tarantino films, for no reason whatsoever...

I genuinely don't understand as to why we're arguing or where all this snark is coming from. :? I took your initial statement as meaning that movie stars were a necessary part of Hollywood filmmaking. If I misunderstood something then I apologize but that's how it read to me and I thought there were...

Re: Let's rank Tarantino films, for no reason whatsoever...

I get the impression that when people went to see Lord of the Rings, they saw the characters on-screen, whereas when they went to see The Wolf of Wall Street, they went to see a DiCaprio flick. You're not comparing like with like there and I think you know it. Why would an audience, primed to see a...

Re: Let's rank Tarantino films, for no reason whatsoever...

I personally have zero issues separating an actor, and his or her previous roles, from the performance I'm currently watching. You mightn't feel like movies need stars but you've clearly bought into the concept of stardom more than I have, so much so that you have difficulty detaching fantasy from ...

Re: Let's rank Tarantino films, for no reason whatsoever...

the movies need stars I'm not sure I would agree with that, personally. Star vehicles have a long history of commercial and critical success in Hollywood, but they also have some inherent drawbacks, I would argue. Generally speaking, the bigger and more recognizable the actor is, the more difficult...

I'm always unsure of how to handle prequels (thanks, George!)
As a rule of thumb, release order is usually the intended way to watch (or play, read, etc...) any multiple-part series.

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Oh man, that's rough. I'm really sorry to hear that. :( I love Scorsese, too. I think it's interesting that he's one of the few directors whose names have remained synonymous with top-quality films over the entire duration of their lengthy career, in my opinion. His current directorial style is diff...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Yeah, Casino is basically a overly indulgent Vegas-flavored version of Goodfellas with a handful of great scenes. It has its detractors, although I remember enjoying it a lot the few times I saw it many years ago. Interesting that ThirdMan would be so down on it upon rewatching it, I'll have to look...

How do I get to level sixty in WoW while also wanting to play Dead Cells?
At the risk of sounding melodramatic, MMOs are inherently designed to grab ahold of your lizard brain and take over your life. Not the healthiest concept, I would argue.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I just played the first two chapters of The Room , the 3D point-and-click puzzle game. Surprised my laptop can even run it, honestly. I really like it so far! Solid atmosphere, engaging riddles and I haven't encountered any arbitrary leaps of logic yet. Although I think this is my first experience w...

Re: Daemon X Machina

I hope I don't sound like a jerk when saying this, but honestly, your post made me less interested in the game than I might have been beforehand. I've never clicked with a single PvE co-op based game in my life and I'm getting too grumpy for PvP, so good old rock solid singleplayer is basically the ...

Re: Shmups

I'm here. Just a bit busy on my end and don't have too much time to spend on the forum, otherwise I would have gladly taken the dumb laptop bait this morning. Had another go on DDPR earlier today and I'm simply not getting anywhere. The scoring system is really opaque, sometimes I get a huge combo a...

It's great! I can see me plugging away at this for weeks. Level 6 and I'm stumped!
Yeah, I love it too, despite the hurdle.

Remember, if it proves to be too much: there is also another (and much easier) game in the same series. Perhaps it might help ease you into the in-game logic a little bit.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Yet another puzzle game for me today. This time, Snakebird . The premise is very simple: adorable little snakes try to escape a series of challenge rooms through strategic positioning and eating fruit along the way. Gravity is also a factor. Colorful aesthetic? Check. Baby toy music? Check. Goofy so...

Re: Games Completed 2019

Actually the tactile nature of the puzzles really leant itself to touchscreen. I can imagine. One thing I forgot to mention is that I would actually recommend people playing the PC, Switch or mobile version if they have the choice. The PS4 controller works just fine, but you can tell the game wasn'...
