Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I hate how COD and Sports Games are used as a way to dismiss a whole swathe of gamer culture - both have massive and vibrant communities in their own right. Fair point, but I wasn't trying to dismiss their entire fanbases. I was only using them as examples of games that do have massive casual follo...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

And with Cane and Rinse we very deliberately try to steer away from that mindset and that type of coverage. Of course man, and I appreciate that! Trying not to hold a game's age against it is probably the one aspect that made CaR stand out to me among all other podcasts when I started listening to ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

going back to 8-bit games made before their time just isn’t for everyone. But to me, good games are good games, regardless of when they were made. That's exactly the way I look at it. I think we just have to acknowledge the extent by which gaming culture is shaped by recency bias. Casual consumers ...

I’ve got a shitload more to play I’m just feeling the fire in the PayPal pocket.
Real talk: I think it'd be smarter to focus on one of the games you already have for the time being and keep the money for the next time a big sale comes around.

But that's just me. :)

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Zero Mission is a remake of the first game and is the superior title in every respect in my opinion. Either ZM or SM are probably the best entry points when it comes to 2D Metroid.

The first one is hard to get into: password save system, no in-game map, stiff animations... That sort of thing.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Absolutely loving Field of Glory: Empires . I know next to nothing about the genre, so how would you say this compares to something like Civilization? Been looking at some footage and it's not bad. A bit too opaque for my tastes and the current price point is rather prohibitive, but I can definitel...

Re: Videogame News

sYYDCFOTSO0 Three years after its initial launch, Overwatch is finally going to implement role queue. I'm gutted. I think this is absolutely the right design choice for a multitude of reasons, especially for the massively positive effect it's bound to have on the social aspect of the game. But man,...

Re: Videogame News

poor build quality, a bit uncomfortable for handheld gaming (!), battery issues (not sure on this, I just skimmed the conversation above). I hadn't heard of any of those things till now! Cb-srOfRqNc This is probably the one video that made me decide to wait on a hardware revision. There have always...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Absolutely loving Field of Glory: Empires . I was initially playing as Ireland, and trying to conquer the British Isles. Nothing personal - one of my druids came to me with a dread prophecy, that of The Ascension of Boris, which he said was to take place in 2,500 years time (the game starts in 310 ...

Re: Videogame News

...Well, I certainly wasn't suggesting that the Switch would be better off using AA batteries for this exact reason. I only brought up AAs to point out that the life cycles of older devices were completely independent from their energy sources. I think the WiiU tablet solution was excellent and that...

Re: Videogame News

Yes, of course. I totally understand the advantages of built-in batteries as opposed to AA ones, so to each his own. But I think we might be talking past one another here. My original point was in response to this: Generally I used to get what I wanted out of a game before the battery started to dra...

Re: Videogame News

Yes, obviously. I meant that I don't have to worry about the built-in batteries of my devices deteriorating and affecting their usability over time. It probably takes about ten years for eneloops to become unusable and even then, they are widely available in every electronic store. Very environmenta...

Re: Videogame News

As far as as batteries go - nope, forget that. The SP is great case of cells being better than carrying AA or AAA batteries about 😄. I don't know about that. I still keep several AA-powered devices in rotation, like my Wiimote, Wavebird, clock, laptop mouse, etc... I use a set of widely available r...

Re: Videogame News

Wouldn't it make more sense to have an easily interchangeable battery with official replacement kits, then? That way the long-time players whose batteries are losing juice can have an affordable solution without having to buy an entirely new console. One concrete advantage that AA batteries-powered ...
