Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

I watched Grizzly Man , a Werner Herzog documentary about Timothy Treadwell, a failed actor / wildlife activist / general weirdo who went to live among wild grizzly bears in a remote Alaskan region until he and his girlfriend met their... ursine fates. Most of the film is composed of the man's own v...

Re: Shmups

ASTEBREED is dope. ...I think? Controls are rather complex but also really tight. There's quite a bit that goes into deciding when to use which attack against which enemy type in order to maximize your score, which is interesting. Soundtrack and mech design are really good. Graphics are crisp, anima...

Re: Games Completed 2019

I 100%'d Valkyria Chronicles 4 plus most DLCs yesterday. Not much to say here that I didn't already say when I played the first one a few months ago. Core mechanics are still rock solid, map / mission design is still varied and maintains a really high average level of quality throughout the whole ga...

Good picks.

Don't have much to add except that at 38:49, it's definitely the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis save room theme "Free From Fear".

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

That brings to mind Asghar Farhgadi's A Separation and The Salesman . Those films, along with Babak Anvari's Under the Shadow , really challenged my preconceptions about daily life in Iran. It's a powerful feeling to peer into another country, another culture, and yet see your own life staring back...

Re: Shmups

I haven't been playing many shmups lately (or many other games apart from VC4 and RE2make, honestly). I think I have a very intense ebb and flow-type of relationship with these games in that I will obsessively focus on one for a very brief period of time but end up losing interest quickly afterwards...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I mean, look. I think Isopod could work on his delivery a little, but there is also a decent argument to be made that Nintendo have softened some of their edges in both mechanical and narrative designs in recent years, at least when it comes to certain series. Fire Emblem went from being tough and u...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

I gotta say, even as a massive critic of the new soundtrack in RE2make, Looming Dread is probably the highlight of the whole thing. Very, very good indeed.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

You've not got a Switch though have you man ?? But I know you have a Wii U. Not yet, I'm still holding out for a potential FE Limited Edition or something along those lines. Don't worry, you'll be the first on my friends list when the time comes. :) Doesn't stop me from preemptively buying games fo...

It’s a pretty robust package on the Swicth anyway to be honest but with two extra books, it’s a very hefty package now.
So which version of Captain Toad is the best, then?

I was going to buy the WiiU one based on your recommendation! Should I get the Switch version after all? :|

Re: Trying to Phase the Wii Out Of My Collection...

- I have heard that the WiiU can actually run GC discs natively with a small amount of software tinkering... Is this true? Is it easy to accomplish? That's what I've heard as well. The WiiU actually has a 1:1 copy of a Wii inside, so that makes sense. You would have to resort to a homebrew channel ...

... or it'll have F-Zero GX remake on Switch and I'm gonna rub my thighs into oblivion
GX already has native widescreen support and is as pixel perfect as it's always been.

No need for any Switch port or remake to experience it the way that the wizards at Amusement Vision intended. ;)

Re: Your dream licensed videogame?

Generally speaking, I don't have the highest opinion of crossovers between video games and other forms of media. Converting traditional stories and intellectual properties into video games more often than not leads to gameplay being treated as an afterthought, and video game-based novelizations and ...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Today, I watched The Red Turtle, an excellent dialogue-free French-Dutch-Studio Ghibli animated film about a man being shipwrecked on a deserted(?) island, together with an old childhood friend at my side and his cat sleeping on my lap.

I could think of worse ways to pass the time.

I just bought Tetris Effect in the weekend flash sale. Not too big of a discount, but juuuust enough to push me over the edge.

Re: Retro gaming

I feel for you, bro. I've been duped by fake GBA carts before, ones that were nowhere near as convincing if I may add. :| The counterfeit GBA market is booming, which makes it a real pain to shop for used games, especially online. Thankfully my collection is more or less complete at this point, but ...
