Re: Retro gaming

Just went and it was gone, along with any other decent GC game they had. :'( Sorry for getting you excited for nothing. I genuinely though the stuff was sitting there for a while already. Will probably show up on eBay as **ULTRA RARE 150 EURO!!!** very soon. Knowing this, I will keep an eye out for ...

Re: Retro gaming

I came across a (PAL) copy of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door in a local charity stop the other day. All their non-FIFA GC games are priced 3,50 EUR, including that one. I already have the game, but is anyone else interested to add it to their collection (not for reselling purposes)? If so, I'll...

Re: Wario Land 3

Another joy to read and look at. I remember a friend bringing his Game Boy Color when he visited me in Nepal, with this game on it, and we were mightily impressed with how it looked and played. Here's a pic of 2000 Michiel playing the game on said GBC on a rooftop restaurant in the ancient city of B...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

That the one with stasis? There's no real order in the shrines.

You're probably overthinking it. Use your new power on the ball and then start whacking it. Then watch the magic happen.

Yeah, I loved scramble on there and fortress of narzod, web warp, berserk. Lots of good stuff! Are you babysitting it until his wifes in a less stabby mood, or is it yours now? That's very generous, even if he was fearing for his life. Oh, it was definitely a gift! Built up a decent collection of c...

Re: Shmups

You'd have to be a real nostalgia junky to pay the prices they're asking on ebay though. I'd imagine it's even worse now since I last looked. I received one for free from an ex-colleague who was scared of his girlfriend's reaction should he return home with the one sitting on his desk, when he left...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Interesting you say that, because in retrospect, I disliked both games -- for very similar reasons. Both games were worked on by MonolithSoft, so it makes a degree of sense. I wonder if Xenoblade X was a prototype of sorts for Breath of the Wild? Could explain the lengthy delays - some exec saw Xen...

Man, Suits showing of some genuine cart reanimations skills. I once had to drop by unannounced at a friend of a friend's place to collect my Gamecube and a whole bunch of my games, 2 hours before he got on a plane to migrate to Australia. Had to find out from others he was departing that day, of cou...

Re: Retro gaming

I love how your retro gaming stories so often involve copious amounts of alcoholic beverages. Mate, I was flopped out the back garden, ale in hand, shades on, minted lamb on the BBQ, chilling - HARD. Boy was loose on the freshly cut lawn playing with trains, wife was relaxed reading her book....

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I bought Xenoblade Chronicles X for Wii U for not a lot of money and decided to throw it in for a quick impression... And now I can't stop playing it!

Not even sure why. Maybe it's the Breath of the Wild DNA in reverse?

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Either make an action game with solid 60fps and sensible controls and mechanics, or make a slow-paced action RPG with deliberate animations for both protagonist and enemies. I'm fine with either of those. Pick one. I can get with this opinion, even though I'd personally hesitate to give a developme...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I tried playing Wild Guns for about an hour and like... This game is way too hard. To the point of being not fun. Even on easy, you're constantly getting hit with cheap deaths (like rolling out of enemy fire and directly into enemy fire, constantly), and while the game looks and sounds great, the d...

Re: Games Completed 2019

23-4 Star Gladiator: Episode I - Final Crusade (PS1) Never gave this game much time, so I did a complete arcade run with one of my favourite Marvel vs. Capcom 2 characters: Hayato. The game is perhaps the most sluggish Capcom fighter I've ever played, with its 30 fps and slow-ass recovery on moves. ...

Re: Retro gaming

I'm mildly optimistic about the intentions behind this whole Antstream thing, even though it's not for me personally. I think clippa has a point about the limitations to longterm success, but... 1. the people behind it seem sound and passionate (or it's just a very good promotional trailer); 2. they...

This thread makes me realise I haven’t been playing enough newer games in the genre, recently. I do play some oldies like Thunder Force III, though. And yeah, I need to sort myself out and write that long promised article.
