Re: The "Introduce yourself" thread

Welcome, Default. That’s wonderful feedback, especially from someone with such a long and respectable history with video games.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I've done a bit of reading and it seems this is the second Kirby game, the first being on the Gameboy, but this is the first in the series which featured the 'swallow enemies to copy their ability' mechanic which has stayed with the series ever since. Seems mad to me that there actually was a Kirby...

Like you said, enjoyability is totally subjective, so if that is what adds to your enjoyment, go for it!

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

^^^^ Ninja Gaiden NES plays tight, fast and furious. I was never a fan of the enemy sprite design and how odd some of the stages look, but it's a very playable game. Definitely has a few very mean areas though, with constantly respawning enemies. Personally I prefer the likes of Sunsoft's Batman or ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I remember going on a school French exchange when I was 12 and couldn't really speak any French and my exchange partner couldn't really speak any English so we communicated almost entirely through NES Volleyball for about two days. This was a great bonding and we were soon out risking life and limb...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I know that I shouldn’t let other people’s experiences and opinions affect my own, but reading this last page makes me feel a bit sad. :( I was playing a bunch of NES games on the original console and the Wii Virtual Console the past week and having a grand time. My boy and me especially enjoyed pla...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

That The Evil Within game is quite gory and disgusting, isn't it? Playing through it with my main horror game playing buddy and we're having a good time. It's rough around the edges, but still compelling enough. It shows glimpses of something akin to the Super Mario Galaxy of horror themed action ad...

Just watched the whole thing. Wow, congrats!

Some real nail biters again, too. That first go at the Ohmu, where you fell in the maws of the plant and hopped out right before your invincibility period expired...

Re: Shmups

Maybe you're playing too well and the rank is bighting you on the backside? You could take a leaf out of Stanshall's book and play it smart/cowardly, gaming the rank system. You could always use the wrong type of shot rather than the right one, stay far away from enemies and try not to pick up gems...

12-7 - Kickle Cubicle (NES)

What a fun little game. THEE (sort of) discovery of 2019 for me, so far. I've unlocked the extra expert levels and wrote the password down, so I'm still not done with this inventive arcade action puzzler.

Re: Shmups

I’m inching closer on Futari BL Original, but it’s so hard to get consistent runs for me. Sometimes I feel like the better I become and the more knowledge I gain about the game, the worse I start playing. A false sense of confidence makes me die in parts that I absolutely shouldn’t die in, flying in...

But I got on the PS3 train very late, so I don't have much of a collection for it. It's not the multiplatform workhorse like the 360 was for me.
I'm very much the same. I got mine a couple of years after the end of its official shelf life, mainly for the exclusives.

Re: Shmups

When I hear 'shmup' I instantly think of Cave and Treasure games, or those aping them directly. A game like Cuphead, one of the most-discussed, and most-lauded games of recent years, I almost never hear being discussed as a 2D shooter or shmup. Similar thing for twin-stick shooters; maybe I'm looki...
