Re: Battle Garegga

Pretty much. Always wanted that game. Scoffed at the 100 euro price a few years before that and when I saw it at a shop and checked the online rates, I figured it was now or never.

Re: Top 25 Shmups of All Time (Shmups Forum)

Always found these yearly Top 25s to be very useful to gather which games are the most well regarded by the most dedicated genre enthusiasts, but at this point the yearly fluctuations become arbitrary and devoid of meaning for me. I'm not even sure if I could put together a genre wide top 25 myself ...

Re: Battle Garegga

STOP REMINDING ME OF GAMES I NEED TO PLAY MORE!!! Spent 200+ euros on the Saturn port, a few months before the M2 Shottriggers version was announced. I've had bouts of playing it feverishly and experimenting with the rank to get as far as I can, but in terms of playtime I haven't gotten my money's w...

https://i.ibb.co/VxvBtY5/IMG-1416.jpg Me and my 2 younglings went to the BlastGalaxy arcade in North Amsterdam this weekend and had a grand time. Games I've played: Galaga Blasteroids (first time ever and it was interesting, since we did the Asteroids podcast not too long ago) Gauntlet (3 player, w...

Re: Successful Spiritual Successors

IMO, 'inspired by' or 'bearing similarities to' isn't the same as spiritual sequel.

"We wanted to make the next game in series X, but we didn't have the rights to the name and characters or some other reason" is my guide line.

Re: Successful Spiritual Successors

Yakuza spiritual successors to Shenmue, only way better. Totally agree with you on Stalker and Metro, but this is very much the same deal. There are a bunch of similarities between Shenmue and Yakuza, but they're also very different experiences, with Shenmue being a much more slow paced adventure g...

Re: Successful Spiritual Successors

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is a very succesful spiritual successor to the Monster World games that totally nails it and then some. Although with the blessing of the creators of that series and it pretty much reusing enemies and some characters (like the eyepatched pig shopkeeper)from it, it'...

Re: Retro gaming

Someone, I think it was Kim Justice, was quite down on that version! But that's maybe only because it was advertised as a modern remake and they only added some optional pixel smoothing and some luminiscent effects on projectiles and explosions. In any case, I do find the MD version quite collectabl...

Re: Retro gaming

Yeah, The Chaos Engine was ported to a variety of systems. Since I don't have an Amiga and not particularly keen on getting one and having to deal with multiple floppy disks, etc. I find games for the system translate adequately enough to the Mega Drive. The music sounds very different, of course, b...

5 - 1 - Bubble Symphony (SEGA Saturn)

Totally forgot, me and my kids "completed" this game. Well, we credit fed our way through it, to be precise. Not my fav way to play arcade games, hence me not really seeing it as a completed game.

Just played the first bit of The Messenger, purely because I heard the amazing music for it on the most recent Sound of Play. Luckily I had it free from the Epic Store. Pretty fun, and running around to that Hills of Destiny song is just fantastic. I am very bad at 2D games though.
