Re: 393: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

MGSV was the conclusion of the action stealth system that Kojima introduced back in 1998. MGS4 was the first real attempt at making this often fiddly system appeal to a much wider mainstream audience with mixed results but I felt MGSV was where this now more western influenced system was perfected. ...

Re: Console Special No.6: Sega Dreamcast

I remember going out to pick up a reserved Dreamcast on launch day, at the time I had never owned a PC so it was the Dreamcast's promises of internet wonders that sealed the deal for me. Unfortunately all I remember are very vague memories of horrible modem dial up sounds, website images that took f...

Re: Our next podcast recording (11.3.19) - 360: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

When I think of Zelda BOTW I very much recall my lack of excitement in the long buildup to the game's release. On the surface it looked closest to the only Zelda game I couldn't bring myself to finish in a long time, Skyward Sword. Even during the Zelda only Nintendo E3 presentations it just seemed ...

Re: Your questions for Fumito Ueda (Ico, SotC, The Last Guardian)

My question;

During development of both SOTC and TLG there were times when multiplayer appears to have been rumoured but for whatever reason just never worked out. What are the biggest challenges you encounter when designing multiplayer aspects of your games?

Re: Resident Evil (1996) - Cane and Rinse 301

Interesting point KSubzero1000. In one way I prefer everyone to be knowledgeable but I can also see the benefit of hearing someone new to it having their thoughts on it. I think the Zelda episodes were good for that too. That can sometimes be frustrating as well, it's like 'They don't appreciate my ...

Re: Tetris - Cane and Rinse 270

Great episode that covered just about everything I could have hoped for. Agreed with the decision not to go too in depth into the copyright narrative and instead focus on breaking down what the game is and how it's evolved in it's many incarnations. One question that was on my mind throughout the sh...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Cane and Rinse 208

Missed the first two podcasts as LTTP was my first Zelda game, sort of curious about them now to hear just how 'unplayable' the first was (in that you needed to cheat) and to try and understand why exactly Zelda 2 had such a bad rep. I think I'm in the same boat as Leon, I had a SNES but didn't get ...

Re: GoldenEye 007 - Cane and Rinse 200

Great episode, some really interesting new information and thoughts about one of my treasured games. Thanks for linking to the design keynote above too, I was curious about it when it was being discussed. Is it me or was there no mention of the infamous 'solo' screen multiplayer? I purchased some we...
