Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (19.1.20) - 402: God of War (2018)

God of War 2018 has almost everything you could possibly want in a game. Incredible visuals, fun action gameplay, environments stuffed with collectables, deep RPG mechanics and a surprisingly well told story. Whatever you enjoy most about gaming, chances are it's represented here in some form. For m...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

[ Some good stuff inside the mansion as well... In general it was a wonderful level with echoes of Portal - not just in the puzzle-based environment but the fact you have someone goading you over a loudspeaker, mockingly praising the progress you've made. My experience with this level was very diff...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm in a very weird place with Dishonored 2 in that I really like a lot about the game but the gameplay didn't really click with me. I finished it, and I was really impressed by it, but it seems I'm just not destined to get on with that brand of stealth. I felt exactly the same about the first game...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Having finally finished the books, I started the first Witcher game last night.. Also, weird combat? I've seen it described as a rhythm game. Definitely worth sticking with it if you can deal with the combat. Granted, I haven't played it in about 10 years but it gets better as it goes on and finish...

Re: Retro gaming

One thing about Alundra, I tried to play it recently again and it's punishingly difficult. Very difficult to acclimatise back to the days of death means start again from your last save, and death comes very easily! We've been spoiled with checkpoints, save states and the like. Fun fact. The US and ...

Re: Retro gaming

So many brilliant PS1 games. I think you'll be able to pick these up for a reasonable sum. Vagrant Story - Brilliant real time combat RPG with great visuals, cool cutscenes and good writing. Legact of Kain: Soul Reaver- Dreamcast version is better but if you dont have one, play this game! Ape Escape...

Re: Games Completed 2019

There goes KSubzero making me want to prioritise my series playthrough of the Bungie Halo games. I second this motion and it would make for a great stream ;). One to consider after you wipe the floor with Double Dragon 3 this Friday? I replayed Halo 1-3 myself this year and they still feel lightyea...

Re: Games Completed 2019

Soul Blazer - SNES 16/12 Fancied a break from my recent PS2 hack 'n slashery and have been meaning to play this for years. I've always loved 16 bit era action RPGs but the Quintet developed games completely passed me by back in the day. Never played ActRaiser either but after stumbling across a loo...

Re: Games Completed 2019

Those could easily be rose-tinted glasses though as I haven't revisited it in about 16 years, and those sort of RPG-lite ideas have been better used in action games since. I'm sure those elements would have played better in 2002, they certainly would have felt more novel back then. They're clearly ...

Re: Games Completed 2019

Onimusha 2 - Samurai's Destiny PS2 09/12/19 What a strange sequel this is. Fundamentally not much has changed and the "resi but samurai" concept still works well but a series of bizarre and unnecessary changes and additions around the edges undermine the solid core that's been lifted from the origin...

Re: Games Completed 2019

Just finished Prey (2017). Want to start again straightaway. Such a great game... Amazing game. Would have been my GOTY in 2017 had it not been for Breath of the wild. I strongly recommend checking out the Mooncrash DLC too, well worth for anyone who enjoyed the base game and goes on sale for next ...

Re: Retro gaming

I can send you/or put one together for you if you ever need one. Tempting and I really appreciate it, but I'll pass. Don't want to fall into that collecting rabbit hole as well and to tell you the truth, I'm more of a big screen person anyway. Only times I ever play handheld is on trips or lo...

Re: Retro gaming

Nice haul! It's surprising what you can find at these things, you'd expect the sellers to be fully aware of an item's value but there are always bargains to be found. GrimGrimoire is a nice find, loved that game. Incidentally I've just been looking at Vanillaware's new RTS game, 13 Sentinels which h...

Re: 2019 in Gaming and your Game of the Year

2019 for me has been a year where I've had far more fun revising older titles and catching up on things I've missed over the years. Of the 3 new releases I've played, Sekiro, DMCV and Outer Worlds, Sekiro is the only one I stuck with and finished so I suppose it's my GOTY by default! While for me it...

Re: Games Completed 2019

Onimusha PS2 - 30/11 I played this game at launch in 2001, one of the first games I remember picking up after exhausting the ps2 launch line up and remember enjoying it a great deal but being a little disappointed in it's brief run time. In 2019 I think the game mostly holds up wonderfully. Visually...

Re: Flabyo plays through a box of old Megadrive games

I played this game on the PlayStation and had forgotten it even existed until your post. I remember having fun with it though I'm not sure I ever made it to the end, to my memory it was incredibly difficult. Had no idea at the time it was a port of a 1992 Neo Geo game and this version sure looks int...

Re: Games Completed 2019

If I had to nitpick I'd say some of the secrets and upgrades are obscure to the point of almost certainly being impossible to find without the use of a guide or swapping playground tips with friends, but if I was playing this back in the day I'd have been pleased I was getting my monies worth... Fu...

Re: Games Completed 2019

God of war 2- PS2 20/11 Solid sequel which adds very little to the formula established by the original game but is more consistent overall. Combat is almost identical to the original, with attempts to add weapon and moveset variety falling mostly flat. Enemy variety and encounter design is improved ...

Re: Retro gaming

Ha, yeah, I got mine in 2014 from a dude at White City who worked at Sky/BBC and “acquired” few of these when they went all digital 😄. It's all about who you know! This guy is also still in contact with people who used to service these things too so if I run into any problems I can't fix I've got a...
