Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Nearing the end of It Takes Two and I couldn't disagree more with the praise this game is getting, feels very much like a case of confusing production values and polish for good game design. Utterly frictionless and dull, with an incredibly poorly conceived message behind its already teeth clenching...

Re: Shameless Self Promotion
Just finished playing Balan Wonderworld and found it to be a really fun, creative game with some delightfully off-kilter design ideas. It's been repeated ad nauseum but it does feel in many ways like a lost 6th gen era platformer and if you have any love for those games, you might be surprised by h...

Re: Games Completed 2021
My wife and I just played through this and had a great time. When was the last time we got a game set in a 1980's Taiwanese family home? A real treat. Made me think how much I'd enjoy a full "game" of just exploring homes rendered in immaculate detail from around the world throughout diffe...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Been playing Paradise Killer . Perfect on the Switch, perfect change of pace after a ton of Witchering. The 3D world is really gorgeous and exploration is fun, and interviewing and interrogating suspects is supported by strong dialogue and an intriguing mystery that's just unravelling and unravelli...

Re: Shameless Self Promotion
Sounds great, I'll give it a go when the mood strikes me. The storytelling in-game was terrible unfortunately, though I suspect it may hit differently if you're already familiar with the setting.

I've started a series of articles for Buttoncult.com on lesser known PS2 action games. This will be the first of ten, releasing weekly. Hopefully somebody here will get a kick out of it (besides me)! https://www.buttoncult.com/home/relics-berserk-millennium-falcon-hen-seima-senki-no-sh I assume you...

Re: Games Completed 2021
Paradise Killer What an amazing experience from start to finish. The soundtrack, characters were great as well as that story. I could have done with a better map which would have removed a lot of frustrations I didn't find one last kiss or KHX's apartment till near the end , but that was part of th...

Re: Games Completed 2021
10,000 Bullets (PS2) I'd forgive anyone for never having heard of this game. After all, any other approach would place my past self beyond the realm of forgiveness until about a year ago. I've been on something of a PS2 character action odyssey in recent months, gathering together as extensive a li...

Re: 470 - Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
If you'd asked me back in 2001, I would have told you that Jak and Daxter was a better game than Mario 64. Times change however and perspective along with it, and I'd certainly give you a different answer if you asked me today. Looking at the two games side by side, it's easy to see why I would have...

Re: 476 - The Last of Us Part II
TLOU2 director Neil Druckman said: “We’re making a game about the cycle of violence and... about violent actions and the impact they have on the character that’s committing them and on the people around them." I would argue that ND failed, both in their game, and narrative design. Mechanically,...

Re: 460 - DOOM Eternal
Doom 2016 sparked something of a renaissance for the retro style FPS. A cutting edge AAA title that had its gaze fixed firmly on the past, taking decades old ideas about gameplay and level design and reminding us of something we'd lost when in 1998 Half Life paved the way for a new, more cinematic a...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Haven't posted for a good while, what better way to make a comeback than with a big self indulgent list of what I've been playing these last few months, listed highly scientifically in order of how much I've enjoyed them. Why not eh? Front Mission: Gun Hazard (SNES) Fan translated JP only side scrol...

Re: The Last of Us Part II
*Apologies in advance for the extreme post length, I'd intended to write a short summary. Oops!* I spent twenty hours or so thoroughly rinsing Naughty Dog's magnum opus. I scoured every lovingly crafted environment, found every collectable and marvelled at the stunning tech, well drawn characters an...

Re: Final Fantasy VI
I haven't played it for a long time but to my recollection, there is a point in the game where the difficulty will spike and then stay at that higher level, even then it's not particularly hard though. It's a problem with the series at large from 6 onwards. Loads of interesting systems with real dep...

Re: Games Completed 2020
Oh and Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars on 3DS is excellent too and can be picked up for next to nothing. I picked this up once on a trip to Amsterdam and had a wonderful time with it, bit of a sleeper it seems. It's great isn't it? Bought it alongside my console at launch and it remains my favourite title...

Re: Games Completed 2020
Hmm, in all honesty it's not a genre traditionally well suited for that style of pick up and play. It's only in recent years really that we've seen more accessible entries like Rabbids and Steamworld. If you still have a GBA/DS knocking around and have never played the Advance Wars series then that'...
