Re: Shmups

It's pretty standard, solid fayre, to be honest. Nothing at all wrong with it but nothing to make it stand out particularly, either. Lot better shmups on the PS1.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

It's hot, damn hot, and I've taken the week off. I've been playing with the PS Classic and I'm having a great time with it recapturing my mid-teens. I've been mostly playing: Tomb Raider . What a fantastic game this is. I went back to the updated version(s) intermittently over the years and they see...

Re: Shmups

Not at all. It's a fair reminder. To be honest, I've never been someone who's given any consideration to building a library or considering the future or preservation or anything like that, for better or worse. Since I got the 360, I've had very little interest in buying new stuff whereas I was previ...

Re: Shmups

I've seen quite a few people getting mildly excited about Pawarumi on Twitter and the like but it's not doing an awful lot for me. I'll likely swerve it til it's in the sales. I've got to stop buying every bloody shmup thats comes out on the Switch, to be honest. Gradius V is put this week, Caladriu...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Totally agree that Punch-Out! is still great. I forgot that one. I also take your point that the black box sports are generally pretty weak, anyway. I'll keep digging..

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

Michiel, I don't mean to be a buzz kill but from a pure single player perspective, I find most of the games too simplistic and stiff when I go back. If I were playing on the couch with someone else, though, I think some of these would still have plenty to offer. I remember going on a school French e...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

That would make for some cool artwork. Stuff broken down, separated neatly into component parts, organised and framed.

Huh. I actually do think that's a neat idea.

Re: Shmups

Clippa, you got me exactly. I've got lots of red string all over the place, planning routes, trying to say moderately sane, trying not to launch the fuckin stick through the telly whenever I point blank a bit million bullets out of some Dragon's gob. Greatham work on the Rolling Gunner, by the way. ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I'd say that aside from SMB1-3, I find the NES games either unplayable or unable to hold my interest for more than a few minutes.

Re: Shmups

I've been getting back from into Futari pretty enthusiastically. I suspect I'll be playing it for as long as my faculties hold up. I've been trying to improve my score on stage one and while my best is still 52m, by the time I'm done I'm going to obliterate that. I've decided to just practise the ri...

Re: Switch tech feedback. Ive had no scratches from the dock, no dodgy WiFi, battery is fine for my needs (train from Manchester to Bristol or London is absolutely no issue), no warping or cracking. I got two sets of Joycons at launch and they both had connectivity issues when separated from the sys...

Re: Shmups

Clips, hope you're doing OK and not having too rough a day. This is a good place and a great crew and it doesn't all need to be about point blanking beetles. All the best with everything.

Re: Shmups

...Have you tried going into the options and flipping the playing field sideways so you can play it as a makeshift vert to alleviate some of these readability concerns? It'd be worth a try, at least. I've concluded that I sit way too close to the TV for a horizontal shmup with this much going on. I...

Re: Shmups

I'll be interested to see what you make of it. I did enjoy it but found it's pretty punishing. Never made it more than two-thirds of the way through and usually was done by the third boss or so. Meanwhile, I've gone back to Akai Katana Shin and Espgaluda 2 Black Label . I really don't get AK. Occasi...

Re: Firestick/Chromecast etc

I've got a couple of these, very good. Easy to set up and install stuff. Easy to set up stuff not on the app store if you fancy. I put Retroarch on mine and it runs very well. I'm sure you can install Kodi and stuff like that, too.

Never played it but I really enjoyed this one. Got myself a PlayStation Classic coming so I'm keen to try it out now. Good stuff!
