Re: Shmups

And that Ikaruga thread where KSub caught up and overtook me in no time at all: https://caneandrinse.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2195&hilit=Ikaruga Really fun reading it back, lovely reminiscences and enjoyed the back and forth challenge and sharing of strategies until I remembered that the disres...

Re: Shmups

- When did you change from just doing runs and experiencing games, to chasing scores / 1cc? Is 1cc the most important thing to you now? - How did you "git good" at shmups - just repeat play on or seeking advice / guides? Are there any general tips you can offer on how you progressed from just darti...

Re: Shmups

Got a nice little bump on my stage 1 record since I started mining the old nose gold - 42,691,272 Just got my best on stage 1, too. You pushed me to go all out and get my conk right up the screen. It's so much fun playing this way. Lost all my lives almost immediately on stage 2. Great success! On ...

Re: Shmups

To get back on track, I've been playing Futari for score again. It's such a fantastic game, and the most exciting way to play it. Point blanking bigger enemies before they appear on screen and have a hurt box, so the little gems start tumbling before you even start to do damage and get the big gems....

Re: Shmups

Lamentably, 'grunt' here refers to the back-breaking blood, sweat and tears of cross-referencing paper trails and rewriting policy. It is these diabolical associations and others which make me reject the PC as a source of anything besides torment. Also, there's no easy way for me to use a mouse in m...

Re: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Very quick one but you can later get an item which boosts your pick-up rate so you may want to leave a load of bodies and their goodies, pop the item and then run round getting the bonus totals. It makes little odds, though, and I'm with you. Weird mechanic. The game does a pretty good job at lettin...

Re: Shmups

I would buy Crimzon Clover, Blue Revolver and ZeroRanger the moment they appeared on the Switch. They would even give me reason to turn on my PS4 again. After an early start and a couple of hours of grunt, I've been having a break with the fantastic Raiden Fighters Aces on the 360, and particularly ...

Re: Shmups

Damn. :o That dodging was berserk...You got about half of her health down without a single bomb. Can't be far off now. And yeah, that laugh...Sheesh. I love the music in the latter stages of that boss, though. Those string stabs and runs, really dramatic and intense. And yeah, BS:IB is great fun. I ...

Re: Shmups

I had a day off today. First in about a month so I decided to fill it with cricket on the radio and a load of assorted gaming. Having reinstalled everything on the rejuvenated 360, I played a selection of lesser known, less well regarded shmups: Sakura Flamingo Archives A bizarre game which must be ...

Re: Dragon's Dogma

I've been gradually chipping away at it myself. I love the hazy, bloomy, PS3 era mulchy palette. I mean it. It seems to somehow have an indefinable personality and there's a soulfulness to it in the same way that Skyrim feels like much more than the sum of its parts. I know that's really just some h...

Re: Videogame Deals

You'll get a very good ten hours out of it and think the reviews were way off. Then you hit the treadmills of repetition and completely understand. Worth it for twenty notes.

I bought Rolling Gunner last night and got to the ‘extra’ final boss on my first credit on the easier mode.

Re: Shmups

Would you believe me if I said my winning run is the only time I've ever got that bastard 1-Up? I feel your pain. It's always JUST out of reach and usually ends in a death. Still, monster score...Bullets must be rrrapid at that rank.

Have you been keeping an eye on the radirgy thread on the shmups forum , Stanshall? Lots of info being drip fed on there. Not for a few days but cheers. It's actually a fun game but I just don't know what's what yet. I saw someone did a little guide on Twitter to the different items but I've not be...

Re: Shmups

Bravo, bravo, mon clip! That said, full disclosure, my score represents perhaps the most cowardly 1CC known to man, playing against rank to keep bullet speed down and avoiding gems wherever I could. Playing the percentage game like a bleary eyed Big Sam. Hoof it up to the big lad. Three points in th...

Hahaha. Less well run than that in most cases!

And yeah, people roll their eyes at me when I mention China in real life so apologies for the splurge. It's the only chance I have! :D

Re: Hong Kong

I went out to Wuhan to teach English at a university. ESL chimp, basically, and it was absolutely tremendous fun but not especially sustainable in terms of my own boredom and very very subject to inertia. Some people never escape, chasing that first year feeling. Anyway, I met one of my best mates t...
