Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Since my hands have been fucked, I've been playing quite a few slower paced games and I've really enjoyed them. Looking forward to getting back to shmups and fighting games though!

Re: Favourites that have waned

Broad stroke but I've struggled going back to any 3D Zelda since BotW. I have extremely fond memories, especially of Twilight Princess and Ocarina, but they're so slow to build momentum and much of what I loved was the impressionistic sense of scale to the 'open world'. When there are actual explore...

Re: Exclusives of the generation?

They do have exclusive games, and I do love my One X, but I use it almost solely for third party games. Of the games you listed, I also really loved and should have included FH3 (and appreciate FM5-7) and I can understand that Sea of Thieves became something unique and was well supported. It looks f...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Redline is an amazing film, I watched that many years ago, but I remember the very trippy visuals from that movie! I saw it in my local Tsutaya (a popular movie rental store) on a shelf, so might have to give it another rental at some point. Out of interest, have you ever been to Japan before? Ther...

Re: Exclusives of the generation?

PS4: 1. Bloodborne (astounding marriage of mechanics, lore and mood) 2. TLOU2 (the outstanding technical achievement of this or any generation) 3. FF7R (enormous recency bias, but its highpoints are pretty much peerless in how they made me feel) Honourable Mentions: GT Sport (vastly underrated), HZD...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Aw thanks mate. It's actually a good time to hear that - been a strange time. Yeah a lot going on really but I'm here and healthy and pressing on! I trust all's well your way? I hope not too full on for you, I know you've got the family responsibilities keeping you busy. Glad to hear you're healthy...

Re: Shameless Self Promotion

Really enjoyed reading your review. Hopefully it’s not another 10 years till the next one as I believe, my friend , that you have a gift. Oh, mate, that is too kind, but I appreciate it! I've missed an outlet beyond work and leisure over the last few years and I figure it'll get me playing differen...

Re: Shameless Self Promotion

Cheers, Michiel. I never played it but I'll bow to your knowledge on that one! Good little game potentially but needs some tweaking.

And looking forward to the next VW! That's right in the pocket for me, fond memories.

Re: Shameless Self Promotion

I've not done much writing in earnest for about ten years but, err, here's a review I did for Mental Health Gaming, with more to come:

Re: Shameless Self Promotion

It's a great show, incredibly comforting and gently funny, always full of moments where I feel like I've learned something new about my own youth which is a lovely feeling.

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Ghibli is life man! One of the movies that I haven't seen yet is Porco Rosso! Ghibli really are masters of their craft. My favorite has to be either Howl's Moving Castle or Kiki's Delivery Service. Grave of the Fireflies is also great (albeit a total gut punch). I absolutely love all of them but yo...

Re: Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Cheers mate. It's made me realise how much of my lockdown time I've spent gaming. I don't know what else to do with myself! Anyway, fingers crossed for next week. Have a great night!

Re: Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Morning gents, I've had a quick go on this today and my elbow is feeling pretty sore again, I've got RSI. It's killed the fun of gaming a bit recently so I'm sorry but I'm going to have to bail this evening. I one hundred percent blame this on playing Futari for several days straight recently. I wil...

Re: Shmups

That was frickin' great, man. I never really messed with God Mode, so the scoring system is very much like 1.5 Maniac? Cheers, mate. I'd say it's well worth a try, easily my favourite mode in the game and I think the most spectacular (even if I'm a bit biased!). It does work similarly to 1.5 Maniac...

Re: Shmups

Extreme respect to anyone who can play bullet hell even remotely competently, I was watching the footage and it looks insane. Thanks, man. Very kind. You do get into a kind of flow with it after a while where you're not distracted by all the noise. When you have a route down, there are usually only...

Re: Shmups

I'm trying to make the switch back to stick after a good few years away, and quickly realising that I've got a very loose, very "neutral" grip that is entirely designed around Fighting Games. Great for complex inputs and large, smooth gestures, utterly useless for the kind of directness a...
