Re: Our next console special podcast recording (6.2.22): SEGA Saturn
Oh, what the hey, lets have some chat about Saturn Bomberman: Saturn Bomberman is great and is arguably the last truely classic game in the franchise. It was a great encapsulation of what had come before from the great pixel art to the pin point gameplay. But as much as I enjoyed it, I always knew t...

Re: Our next console special podcast recording (6.2.22): SEGA Saturn
Right, who do I need to bribe to get onto this show? Because the only way I can fully articulate how much the Sega Saturn means to me if is I'm on the show and no one else speaks and just listens to me for 4 hours or so as I wax lyrical. So, if [insert host name] is reading this out, then I clearly ...

Re: Our next console special podcast recording (4.10.20) - Sony PlayStation 2
I bought a PS2, but you know what? I traded it in for a GameCube when that was released. Before I confirm if I regret that decision, lets examine the decision itself; I enjoyed having a PS2, I enjoyed the games I had. I think the main game I remember from the short period that I had it was State of ...

Re: Our next Resident Evil podcast recording (8.9.18) - 336: Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard 4)
I never finished Resident Evil 4 but I still have very fond memories of it; I remember playing it through on my Gamecube with my newborn son sleeping on my chest. I had always liked the idea of the Resi series but was never able to get into them; missed Resi 1 as didn't have a PS1 when that released...

Re: 350: Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII is for me a tale of woe. I initially bought FFVII on the PC, as I didn't have a PS1 when it was released. FFVII was a proper game changer, riding the PS1 boom to bring JRPGs to a much wider audience. I remember, during that PS1 release, being in the sixth form common room listening...

Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (5.5.16): Gunstar Heroes
Little side note, would really love a show on Treasure's Game Boy Advance game, Astro Boy Omega Factor not only as a companion piece to this on but also for the great storytelling techniques in the game. Man, Treasure are awesome.

Re: Gunstar Heroes
Gunstar Heroes? A cracker. But it was also a game that could be used in the great Mega Drive/SNES Wars of the early 90s. Ah, halcyon days; the play grounds rang with arguments over the merits of mode 7 compared to the arcade quality of Sega's machine. Us Sega owners mostly lost though, those SNES ga...

Re: Out Run
Out Run was a game changer, a monolithic titan that towered over the arcades and entranced all of us lucky to be around when it first landed. But I want to talk about why the 3DS version amazed me: because playing that game with the 3D full on makes it like how I thought it was when I was young. To ...

Re: Our next podcast recording - Beyond: Two Souls
Where is the like button for this? A heart? Come on, anything?macstat wrote:Beyond was kinda like a jigsaw puzzle. You get pieces, you wonder what will you get, you occasionally enjoy those fragments but in the end you get a dumb picture that doesn't make much sense because it was made by 5 year old.

Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording - Beyond: Two Souls
Oh boy. I had to review this when I was writing for the now defunct website SquareGo so my full thoughts are contained in the review I wrote right here . However, in order to not take up the entire end of the podcast, I'll drop the last few paragraphs of the review here which should summarise my tho...

Re: Our next podcast recording (17.3.16): Final Fight
I wonder how much of that is down to Final Fight being developed as a pure arcade game, it was designed to suck you in then milk you for as much money as possible. Streets of Rage (especially the sequels) and Comix Zone were developed for a home market in mind so that may explain the different mind ...

Re: Our next podcast recording (17.3.16): Final Fight
Have finally got off my various bits to join the forum to make sure something long and rambling was written about this cracker of a game! You can kind of spot people who didn't grow up with arcades: when they walk into somewhere they don't have a quick scan around the premises to spot a random JAMMA...
