Re: Your dream licensed videogame?

I always thought due to its story, setting and especially, visual style that a Samurai Jack game could be phenomenal if done right. Have you played Furi (upcoming in this volume of C&R)? It's obviously not a 1:1, but the art and animation has always reminded me of Samurai Jack. Lots of skipped fram...

Re: Gaming Goals for 2019

On the contrary, Majora's Mask, consistently listed as one of the series' highlights, is built on the bones of Ocarina. And you could, uncharitably, call that corner cutting, but that seems like a narrow view of the process of development. Majora used the tools available to make an experience that f...

Re: Gaming Goals for 2019

I consider Breath of the Wild to be one of the absolute worst games I've ever played. So that I can digest this statement better, can you sum up (very briefly) why ?? Big, dead open world, glass weapons, no dungeons, copy/pasted textures overused to the point it feels like an Itch.io Unity game, no...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I enjoyed Super Hot, played it for a few nights years ago on the Xbox. Once I’d beaten it, I never went back to it mind. Clever game, that controlled great but apart from that I found it pretty un-remarkable. I’d recommend it though. If that makes sense. I'd really encourage anyone playing SUPERHOT...

Re: Virtual Reality

It's me, the Beat Saber god, come to check in on everyone (I have probably played 100 hours of the PC version so far) You're SITTING, James??? I literally never even considered doing that. Regardless, my favorite part of the game is how much better you'll get just over the course of playing. I start...

Re: Dark Souls I, II and III

Dark Souls 2 has a strange hold over me. No other game in the series, in so far as I've experienced them, has given me a moment quite like walking out into Majula for the first time. The music and general tone of that hub area is quite remarkable. Relaxing, but also slightly ominous and foreboding....

Shocking display of masochism- Dead Rising completed (the full ending) without killing a single zombie. Christ.

Incredibly bizarre but oddly moving Space Oddity music video, made using the real-time face capture that's now part of Star Citizen.

Re: Your favorite game trailers

I don't even know how many people I showed the original Cyberpunk 2077 teaser. Although I think the more recent ones do a better job of actually portraying the game, the faux-Radiohead and imagery really stuck with me, all of five years ago

Re: Remasters — the good, the bad, and the fugly

Uncharted trilogy, SotC, TLoU and MGS 2 and 3 have all been brilliant All Bluepoint joints, as far as I'm aware. Naughty Dog did TLOU:Remastered. It was their way of getting familiar with the architecture before Uncharted 4. But, yeah, Bluepoint are the masters. Really hope that secret new project ...

Cool 2004 / 2018 comparison vid: https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/09/06/spider-mans-new-york-2004-vs-2018 Good god, that game looks utterly incredible! I've not really been following it much, but that video, those water effects and puddles and just general graphical quality - surely the pinnacle of ...

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man

Photo mode is truly excellent. Also cool are the time-of-day changes, each part of the story has a different time/light/weather setting, so you can kinda choose how long you'd like to stay in each one. Also (I think) once you beat the game, you can choose the time freely.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man

I've become very tired and frustrated by the modern western AAA open-world template, and this game doesn't seem to have any sort of distinct hook that would suggest a bold departure from that norm. I like the Arkham games a lot, but playing a slightly re-skinned version of their stealth sections an...

Marvel's Spider-Man

So what's everyone thinking of the Spider-Man release? I'm only a few hours in, but I'm having a blast. Some thoughts: Visually, the game is astonishing. Character models look great but the city is where it really shines. It just looks so big . It really feels like being in New York. The streets are...

Re: Remasters — the good, the bad, and the fugly

I'm playing on PC, so I specifically meant with mouse aiming. Not sure about the spawning ratio, but I was regularly breaking 200k in the castle. Internal clock rates could totally be messed up, I just don't have enough experience with the earlier versions to notice.

Re: Remasters — the good, the bad, and the fugly

My love of the Shadow of the Colossus remake is well documented (https://caneandrinse.com/shadow-of-the-colossus-then-and-now/), but I'll also be a positive voice for the 60 fps RE4 PC version. Just from ease of access it's my most played version of the game, and it actually feels very weird to go b...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Otherwise I'm finally playing Dead Space after several previous attempts to get into it, I think I'm probably a third of the way through. Sweet! I feel the urge to replay the series at some point in the near future. Are you enjoying it so far? I replayed it last year and it still holds up Dead Spac...

Re: 318: The Stanley Parable

Once, I gave The Stanley Parable to my dad to play. He played it once through, following all the directions. I pressed him to try it again, and he nearly did the exact same thing, until I nudged him to *not* go along with the narration. At that point, the magic was gone. The Stanley Parable is a one...

Re: 326: Hyper Light Drifter

Hyper Light Drifter might be one of the most aesthetically consistent games I've ever played. Like with the best pixel art, it's hard to imagine the game ever visually aging a day- the environments are so rich in detail, the little animations so expressive...I mean, the opening cutscene by itself is...

Re: 336: Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard 4)

Resident Evil 4 holds a special place in my heart as my very first m-rated game . I had a Wii, and had just had my bar-mitzvah. My argument to my parents was, therefore, "If the Torah says I'm a man, why shouldn't I be able to play mature games?" Little did I know that I was getting one of the most ...
