Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've just put four hours into Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. I'd been playing on normal difficulty and coasting through battles. Then I hit upon a tricky encounter, my party was wiped-out and I then realised I'd accidentally activated permadeath. Game over. I feel sick.

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

His natural speaking voice is a bizarre almost exaggerated cockney type affair, always throws me when I see him interviewed! gmPdGcg0xWI Here's a good example of it at 1:24, although as Kermode and Mayo point out it seems to be accurate enough for the real life Ken Miles. However it drifts around q...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Torrent) I'm back in the pirating business for, appropriately, the Star Wars heist movie. I should feel remorse for breaking my 7-month-old ethical system but, hey, it's Disney! To quote Omar Little, "you come at the King, you best not miss". I didn't miss. I downloade...

Re: 398: Planescape: Torment

Planescape: Torment has always been on my backlog so I was pleased to see it on this years playlist so I could give it a whirl. The elevator pitch for this game sounds fantastic and pretty much ticks every box required to get me interested. In truth I really wish I never started it and It’s been th...

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Last Christmas (Cinema) How do I make it through these remarks without using the word turkey? It's awful. The most interesting thing about the film is that it lead to Mark Kermode's review. He's a notorious Emma Thompson fan and is often accused of "liking things he likes". This was written by Thom...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'll persist though as it is good and so far on XOX it runs well! I've just watched Digital Foundry's comprehensive analysis of its performance and, in summary, it's one of the biggest gaps in performance that they've ever seen between the two Xbox consoles. And it seems that it gets a lot worse fo...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I picked up RDR2 for the Xbox One earlier. I completed it on PS4 when I still had that console but I fancied having its large map on standby as my chillout game. I wish I hadn't. There's an unpleasant blurriness and a lot less detail in the textures. It's still a great looking game of course but it'...

Re: Google Stadia

To be fair, Google's actions in the run-up to this launch suggested it wasn't ready for release anyway! :D I wasn't aware of that actually. I haven't been following it particularly closely but I was surprised to hear that certain features won't be ready for launch. I honestly thought Google would c...

All reports suggest it works great.

Funny, that.

Eurogamer were pretty positive but made it sound like it's not ready for release.

Re: Whatcha Been Watching?

Sorry We Missed You (Cinema) Ken Loach's spiritual sequel to I, Daniel Blake , this time dealing with zero-hour contracts and overworked employees. It's tough going but it cuts to the bone. At times I was watching it through my fingers as this young family came apart at the seams. Loach once again ...

Re: Nintendo 2DS

Thinking about presents for my 5 year old son for Christmas. He's always eyeing up my Switch and we do play together on occasions but only when I'm there to supervise. Seeing as he's showing an interest in gaming I was considering picking up an original 2DS, hopefully in a Black Friday sale. A Swit...

It’s a VR game dude, I very much doubt it’ll come to Switch VR 😄.
It was a Valve in-joke

Gabe Newell was initially dismissive of the Switch but then spoke rather positively about the niche it fills.

It was a lame joke and now I've completely killed it by having to explain it to everyone.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've put Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order aside until it's patched. I was really enjoying it but the slight underlying jankiness is a turn off. I trust Respawn to at least try to tidy things up so it's worth waiting for. A very enjoyable game though. It's a hodge-podge of other studio's ideas but it's a...

Re: Videogame News

So there's a new Half Life game on the horizon. When I first played Half Life 2 in 2016, on my lowly Macbook, I was so impressed that I told myself I'd buy a beefed-up gaming PC if Valve ever released a new addition to the series. I wish I had the money to back up that statement. I suspect its going...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I recieved one free month of Game Pass with my Xbox during the week and then I purchased another three months for €1. I couldn't resist. However when that period ends I'll likely cancel the subscription. For me, with my diminishing attention span and rip raw approach to mixing things up, Game Pass i...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm about fives hours into Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order which, based on some estimates, means I'm about a quarter way through. I'm playing on Xbox One S and there's some occasional frame-rate problems, texture pop-in and a slightly janky feeling here and there. There was also one geometry failure an...

Re: Videogame News

So the reviews for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are in and Respawn seem to have pulled it off, for the most part at least. Eurogamer were perhaps most critical when they said that on the base Xbox One it was "broken". That's worrying, especially for me as I've just dropped €60 on it. The Star Wars h...
