Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Super Mario RPG is one of my favorite games ever, so I'm not sure why I'm not more excited for the remake. It looks nice, but honestly the original is so good that I struggle to think what they can update beyond the visuals to actually improve the game, and I still think the original looks good, so ...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The HD version did a great job of proving to me that the motion controls really weren't ever the problem. The first 1/2 - 2/3rds ish is a perfectly good 3D Zelda, but the end is a mess of repetitive backtracking. I'm pretty sure I gave up on the remake in almost exactly the same place I did the orig...

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
My number one prediction for 2023 (that I posted here last year) was that Tears of the Kingdom "would prove to be a fiercely divisive sequel." Yep... Sorry, I'm not sure if this is a joke or not  I've seen nothing but positivity so far though. Then let me add a different perspective....

Re: Videogame News
I really liked it, but it's definitely fair to complain that there was almost nothing really new in it. The Metroid Prime remaster looks unbelievably good, like, if you told me it was an original Switch release, I'd totally believe it. If Baten Kaitos is half as good I'll be thrilled. GBA games are ...

Re: My 5 favourite and 1 least favourite games I've finished this year
Honorable Mention: Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster I - VI I'm going to stick to 2022 releases for my main list, and while VI qualifies, I wanted to talk about these as a group. They were the primary motivating factor for me to preorder a Steam Deck, Which I'm very glad I did, and so far they're what I'...

Re: Summer Games Fest aka Not-E3 schedule
I find it extremely hilarious that Atlus apparently had no trouble porting Persona 5, one of the most incredible-looking games ever made, to Switch, but we're still stuck with cloud versions of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. I was already going to get the ports of 3 and 4, but putting them on Switch makes ...

Re: How is C and R enjoying the Steam Deck?
I'm mad at myself for waiting until January to reserve one, I'm still months away, and the list of PC games I'd love to play but am not willing to sit at my desk for is getting longer by the day.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
48 tracks is almost certainly more than we would have gotten in a theoretical Mario Kart 9, and for half the price, and it's not like much else would really have changed. This seems far better, though I guess I'm a little surprised that they're apparently not including a single new racer. Between th...

Re: Nintendo GameCube
F-Zero (Technically third party!), Eternal Darkness, Billy Hatcher, both Baten Kaitos games (sadly, the GC really lacked JRPGs for the most part), Skies of Arcadia Legends I'd say that what it lacked in quantity, it more than made up for in quality. Baten Kaitos and Tales of Symphonia are still som...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
In the US it's $50, which is 2.5x the base price. I might have been willing to pay $10-15 extra, but $30 is ridiculous, and with the way they've handled NES and SNES games, I was already skeptical.

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
1.5, 2.5, and 2.8 were all PS3 games originally, there's no way they wouldn't have run natively on Switch. I really don't understand. On the other hand, maybe they'll stream better because of that?

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Yoko Taro's new card-based RPG looks cool, and weird, I'm pretty excited to give the demo a try. It seems insane to me that there still aren't Switch ports of Final Fantasy 1-6 and Castlevania SOTN. I still can't believe the pixel remasters are PC-only. For all that they kinda look like lazy cash-gr...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Genuine question - why do Japanese Game devs insist on coming up with the absolute worst names for their RPGs? It's kind of a gaming pet hate of mine. Do they actually want them to sell or...? 'Triangle Strategy' is a long way from the worst I've heard, but it still blows. Game looks decent, but ma...

Re: Metroid Speedruns
Nah. The category I'm playing (deathless/all bosses) is in 18 minutes and uses loads of door glitches, which I do think are cool but feel a bit game breaky to me. I want to do sub 40 Varia Suit and then see how low we can go without it. Should be a lot of fun. Glory or insanity awaits... Why not Al...

Re: Videogame News
There's a pretty big difference between console hardware, which is specific to each platform so devs can optimize specifically for it, and with known amounts of OS overhead, and PC hardware, where all you can do is make it run as efficiently as possible and hope it works on as many systems as possib...

I wonder when we're going to see Braid Anniversary Edition. I've been holding on to some eShop credit for ages to get it, and I'd been expecting (based on nothing) we'd have seen it by now. It's really a race between that and Silksong to who gets my saved up eShop gold points, haha. Has there been ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Honestly, the screen is the only part of this upgrade that doesn't seem like something they could have just added to the base model in a revision, like they did with the improved battery life a few years ago. Maybe the memory upgrade, but SD cards are so cheap these days, I doubt that's going to exc...
