Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Tried out the Neo: The World Ends with You demo and despite me really liking the first game, was still pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. The main protagonist is actually pretty likeable with him not been as obsessed with fashion and consumerism as all the people around him and at one ...

Re: E3 predictions - You get one shot

Well I aimed to get around to doing this a bit earlier than I thought I would. Oh well so Nintendo is left so I will do one prediction for them tomorrow: To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Donkey Kong, there is going to be a new DK game. Not only that but he will be returning to 3D after 21 years....

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I have had only 4 hours or so with it but it just captures what makes the early Paper Mario titles so engaging and even builds up on that in terms of combat and character. Really cannot recommend it enough if you want something like Thousand Year Door.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Started up Bug Fables this weekend and people saying it is influenced by Paper Mario were downplaying it! This feels exactly like the Thousand Year Door only without the Mario skin. It has been well over a decade since I played anything like TTYD so I am adoring it so far. A battle system that is a ...

Re: 487 - Everything

Everything is a really odd one to me. I have really not played anything like it before and I honestly find it really hard to talk about. For example, in terms of gameplay there really is no overarching aim or goals but conversely this is also the ultimate collectathon in a weird way due to the playe...

OK, can we at least agree Diddy is better than Kiddy Kong? DKC3 is a good game in spite of that ugly little bugger.

Re: Mario Kart Wii

Just listened to this recently and I was surprised no one on the show notices Donkey Kong's weird new Scooby Doo voice. Is it just me who thinks it does not suit the character at all? Seriously, prefer the DK64 voice to what he sounded like in this. Also, Diddy Kong is Poochie?! That is way too hars...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

After struggling with the B-Sides in Celeste, I just went "screw it, I'm turning Infinite Dashes on." Might as well use these tools if I am being given them. Also I completed the main story fair and square so I think it is fine to muck around a bit with the after game content, so to speak....

Re: Our next Console Special podcast recording (27.6.21) - PlayStation 3

Of all of Sony’s home consoles this is the one that I have the least experience with. My old flatmate had a PS3 that I would play on occasionally and then a friend of mine gave me his one when he got himself a new PS4. I do remember quite vividly when I finally had to update to a HD TV as the old bo...

Re: The videogame music thread

Count me as another one sad to hear that the show is going on hiatus for a while. It definitely opened my mind to how wonderfully diverse and unique game music can be and introduced me to many a new title and soundtracks that I would have been completely ignorant of otherwise. In regards to the dryi...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Still stuck on level 4 boss in Thumper . It is the third phase where it is an absolute bastard. The first green light is immediately before a barrier you have to smash through and then you have to immediately go over to the next lane on your right to hit the next light. Time and again, I mess up. I ...

Re: Help me make an all time greatest comedy film list!

Been a while since I seen Fargo, but a lot of the small talk from the locals really drove a lot of the humour in that film. Steve Buscemi's character constantly being referred to as that "funny looking fella" was always a running gag I liked.

Re: Help me make an all time greatest comedy film list!

In the vein of Spinal Tap, I would also suggest Best in Show and A Mighty Wind which are directed by Christopher Guest. Really funny mockumentaries looking at dog competitions and folk music. As for funny Coen Brothers stuff, the one i always recommend is O Brother where art Thou? Just a fun little ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

The PS store was doing a special offer for a limited time where you can download games that use VR for free. Despite not having a VR set, I checked it out and looked for something good that did not require the pricey peripheral. That is when I saw Thumper. I have always been interested in this title...

Re: The Sound of Play submission thread

I have very limited exposure to the Professor Layton series, having only played bits and pieces of a friend's copy of Professor Layton and the Curious Village. One factor that stuck out to me was the lovely whimsical soundtrack it had. One piece in particular "The Veil of Night" by Tomohit...

Re: 479 - Yakuza Kiwami 2

After the decent but a bit disappointing Yakuza Kiwami, this is a massive step up in quality in nearly every way. You can really see the series get its identity here. The substories are far sillier with you fighting adult baby fetishists, being a voice actor for a sexy video game, helping recent col...

Re: Games Completed 2021

I still say Kiwami 2 is the best of the series, the PS2 original and the remake. It's just so memorable, and has an amazing finish, and the female lead actually has agency. 3 is definitely a comedown, and I'm actually working through the remastered version on XBox One. --Dan It really is up there f...
