Re: Microsoft Xbox news and discussion thread

Not far off what Disney paid for Star Wars plus Marvel. Serious amount of cash to be throwing around. Still Microsoft are definitely one company with it at their disposal.

When was the last time a games company purchased a large publisher like this?

Re: Hades

I really like Supergiant's output (Transistor a bit less so), so I put this on my Switch watchlist when I saw it was released and didn't even look at reviews. Good to see it doing really well. Love Darren Korb's soundtracks too, but I'm avoiding listening to this one until I hear it in game first. I...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Sony have some serious communication/marketing issues this time around. I mean it can be bad sometimes but this seems far worse than usual. I was pretty much in agreement with Wesley Yin-Poole's article linked above. And to add to it, Jim Ryan apparently told the Washington Post afterwards that 99% ...

Re: Microsoft Xbox news and discussion thread

Well, I was going with a PS5 and I still likely will (probably next year). But Microsoft have got my interest now, it could be the first time I own all the major consoles. It would be very nice to pick one up to play some of the exclusives, including the previous gen ones. I've been thinking about t...

Re: Games Completed 2020

K2 is using the same engine that was introduced in 6. Everything from 3 to K1 used the previous engine, which did evolve over time though. But the engine for 6/K2 added a bunch of new graphical features and a more extensive physics engine. I may be wrong but 5,0 and K1 may actually be on a newer en...

Re: Games Completed 2020

Also, no surprise, I love the Ice Cap and Lava Reed Zones and accompanying music. I've played the Mega Drive Sonics regularly since I was young and Lava Reef is my favourite zone of the whole series. It's also, apparently, the longest zone in the Mega Drive games. Some zones have one short and one ...

Re: Games Completed 2020

As much as I enjoy the Yakuza series, I'm really glad that I spread them out to one a year. Even then, the risk of burnout is there. I know there are some big Yakuza fans here, so should I play any of them I’ve missed or do the above? Scrustle's summary is pretty accurate. 0 is my favourite followed...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Fall Guys is a multiplayer game that caught my eye back when it was revealed at E3 last year. I haven't kept up but it seemed like loads of people taking on obstacle courses (like Takeshi's Castle or similar stuff but all at the same time). Whats interesting is that it is on PS+ at launch. They coul...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I've been in a bit of a lull games-wise and don't have any big games on the go. I'm playing Mr Driller Drillland (Switch says for more than 15 hours). Its great but damn it is hard. I've beaten the level 2 difficulties on World Tour and The Hole of Druaga but not the other three modes. Sadly it appe...

Re: Games Completed 2020

Finally finished Octopath Traveler. My feelings on Octopath weren't too different, maybe a bit more positive. Although it has one of my favourite soundtracks in JRPGs. Did you just finish the 8 stories or actually take on the final boss? It loosely ties some threads from the 8 stories together, tho...

Re: Our next podcast recording (18.7.20) - 428: The World Ends With You

I got this a few years after release, when its reputation in the DS's library was well established. I enjoyed the story. While Neku's character development will be obvious from the start, the Reaper's game, the twists and turns it takes and it's many likeable characters were interesting and fun. Whi...

Re: Games Completed 2020

Ha. There really is not much to say, it plays a good game of Mr Driller. The other modes seem to be interesting variants on the formula but I want to reach this 1000m point first before going into the challenging versions of those.

Yeah, I love the Klonoa 2 soundtrack. Years ago I recommended 3 tracks for Sound of Play and now they've all been played. :)

Mirage was the easiest pick.

Re: Games Completed 2020

Shame it's PC only as I know I won't go back to it, playing on laptop with a keyboard, but it was a really nice game. It can be played with a controller though. The game picked up mine immediately and even gave me the PlayStation buttons on screen. I've still got a happy buzz from it a day later. :)

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

I originally thought the disc version would stand the other way around (I.e. disc side on top) and that might look better, but this looks even weirder.
